It is flexible and listed by YouTube as an encoder, but that does not mean every computer can handle a nonstop broadcast. Start with a simple scene, modest settings and a real test. Which software should you use?
OBS Studio: best free local-PC starting point
YouTube lists OBS Studio as open-source software at no charge. It is a sensible choice when you want control over the stream and are willing to configure and test your own PC. OBS can send an encoder output to YouTube, but compatibility is not a promise of reliable streaming: the CPU load varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. OBS’s system requirements explicitly caution that a compatible system may not be capable of streaming or recording.
For a low-cost computer, begin with one simple scene and use OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard, then test at the resolution and bitrate you intend to use. Avoid adding browser sources, animated overlays or other scene elements until the basic stream is stable; every additional source can add work or introduce another failure point.
Other options are workflow-specific
YouTube also lists other software encoders, cloud services and hardware encoders. A listing alone does not establish that an option is better, less expensive, available in India or suitable for your particular continuous prerecorded stream. Compare total cost, local-PC dependence, encoding workload, interruption recovery and continuous-stream limits before switching.

Check YouTube eligibility and choose settings
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Confirm access before building an always-on workflow. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection. Its encoder guidance specifies H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds). Start with a realistic resolution and bitrate
A conservative first test is 720p at 30 fps, provided the PC and connection can sustain the selected bitrate. YouTube’s current recommendations distinguish codecs and recommended rates from minimums:

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measurements of Indian internet service. They are also not a guarantee that your PC can encode or your connection can continuously upload at the chosen rate. A brief speed test does not demonstrate sustained performance. Test upload capacity and then run a real stream at the intended settings, with representative audio and movement. YouTube advises choosing a quality that is reliable for your connection.
Set up OBS and test the full path
- Enable live streaming on YouTube. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, as YouTube notes. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and obtain its stream key from the stream setup. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or show it in a screen recording.
- Run OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard. Start with the simple scene you actually need for the broadcast, such as the prerecorded video source and any essential audio. Use the wizard as a starting configuration, not proof that the PC will remain stable indefinitely.
- Set encoder output. In OBS, open Settings → Output and choose the streaming encoder available on your machine. Set bitrate to a value the stable upload can sustain, use CBR, and keep the keyframe interval at two seconds. YouTube’s published bitrate figures above are reference points; lower the target if the PC or upload cannot hold it.
- Set video dimensions and frame rate. In Settings → Video, choose a modest output such as 1280×720 at 30 fps for the initial test. If the picture stutters, encoding overloads, or upload falters, try 854×480 at 30 fps or reduce other scene demands before raising quality.
- Configure audio and destination. Use AAC or MP3 audio and connect OBS to YouTube using the stream key or the available account connection method. Use RTMPS when the connection option supports it. Never paste a stream key into public notes, chat, or an untrusted service.
- Test before relying on it. Start a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate for your channel workflow. Include the actual audio and motion, keep the intended resolution and bitrate, and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages as well as OBS’s output statistics. Test long enough to expose recurring drops, heat or resource problems; a short successful start does not prove 24/7 reliability.
- Reduce load or bitrate if the test fails. Simplify the scene, lower output resolution or frame rate, or reduce bitrate while maintaining a stable picture. Change one major setting at a time and repeat the test.
Keep a low-cost PC and connection stable
Network reliability matters more than peak download speed
OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can disconnect a stream. Its troubleshooting guidance suggests lowering bitrate to fit stable upload and gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting heuristic. That is an OBS troubleshooting rule of thumb, not a universal guarantee for every ISP or long-running stream. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.

If the computer uses Wi-Fi, test with wired Ethernet. OBS notes Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A cable can remove one wireless link from the path, but cannot fix inadequate service, ISP congestion or insufficient upload capacity.
The PC is part of the broadcast chain
A local setup requires the PC, OBS, power and internet connection to remain operational. There is no published low-cost PC specification that guarantees continuous uptime, and the official guidance does not establish that a particular Indian household’s internet or power setup can sustain a nonstop stream. Treat the configuration as something to validate under your own conditions, not as an uptime promise.

Copyright, content and stream-key checks
- Only stream video and audio you have the rights or permissions to use. A live encoder does not make copyrighted material safe to rebroadcast.
- Check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for the content and channel before scheduling a long loop. A technically stable stream can still face claims, restrictions or removal based on its content.
- Keep the stream key private and regenerate it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- For prerecorded material, make sure the loop is intentional and the stream is configured for the format you need. Platform policy compliance and stream continuity are separate issues.
