Schedule each broadcast as a separate event in YouTube Studio, then use a named OBS Profile to keep its stream key and encoder settings distinct. The key routes OBS’s feed to YouTube; it does not select a playlist. Check playlist organization in YouTube Studio rather than relying on the key or OBS to assign it.
What YouTube Studio and OBS each control
YouTube Studio is where you schedule the event and manage its audience-facing details. OBS sends the encoder feed to YouTube using the stream URL and key associated with that event. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in its Manage live stream settings help.
A key is not a playlist selector. The documented key function is routing the encoder feed; the available YouTube guidance does not establish that choosing a key assigns the resulting video to a playlist. Check the event editor for playlist controls, and if you do not find one, add the completed video to the intended playlist through its video details after the broadcast.
Schedule a separate event for each broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio. Choose Create, then Go Live, and open the Manage tab.
- Create the scheduled stream. Choose Schedule Stream and enter the event’s title, time, audience settings, and other details. Make a separate event when broadcasts need distinct watch pages, schedules, or metadata. YouTube documents this flow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Choose whether to reuse settings. Creating an event from scratch avoids carrying over details you do not want. YouTube’s Reuse settings option copies the previous stream’s metadata, key, and other settings; review and edit the new event after reusing them.
- Check playlist organization in the event editor. Look for a playlist control in the current YouTube Studio editor and use it if available. The official scheduling guidance does not establish where a playlist can be assigned in this flow or whether preassignment is available for every event. If there is no relevant control, schedule the event and add the finished video to the playlist from its video details.
- Save the event and note its encoder details. Keep track of the scheduled event, stream URL, and key you intend OBS to use.
A scheduled event can be shared in advance. YouTube says it may appear in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can select Notify me; see Get started with live streaming.

Keep multiple stream keys straight in OBS
Use Profiles for stream settings
In OBS, create a Profile for each reusable stream configuration. Give each one a clear name that identifies the intended channel or configuration, then set the relevant streaming service and key in that Profile’s Stream settings. OBS Profiles store stream and output settings; see the OBS Profiles guide.
At broadcast time, select the Profile that contains the key for the scheduled event. Verify the selected event and key together before starting the feed. A distinct key can help operators distinguish configurations, but it does not organize videos into playlists.

Use Scene Collections only when the production layout also changes
Profiles and Scene Collections are separate. A Profile is for stream and output configuration; a Scene Collection holds scenes. If different broadcasts need different scenes, name and select the corresponding Scene Collection as well as the Profile. If only the destination or output settings change, a Profile may be all you need. OBS documents this distinction in its Profiles guide.
One reusable key or several?
A reusable key is simpler when you want a consistent encoder destination. Separate custom keys can make it easier for an operator to tell configurations apart, but they do not automatically associate broadcasts with different playlists. YouTube allows custom keys and reuse of stream settings, including copying the key; choose based on how you want to manage encoder destinations, not as a playlist workaround.

Treat every key as a secret credential. Avoid sharing it publicly, and confirm the selected OBS Profile before streaming so you do not send a feed to the wrong event.
Start the scheduled broadcast
- In OBS, select the intended Profile and, if needed, its matching Scene Collection.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the scheduled event and confirm it is the one you mean to broadcast.
- Start streaming in OBS. YouTube’s encoder workflow connects the event using its stream URL and key; follow the Live Control Room prompts to check the incoming preview and select Go live when required.
- After the broadcast, open the resulting video’s details in YouTube Studio and confirm or update its playlist membership if the event editor did not provide a playlist control.
Plan around YouTube’s active-stream limits
YouTube Help states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, with both limits applying at the same time. Multiple keys do not bypass the channel-wide limit. These figures are from YouTube’s live-streaming help as retrieved in 2026; check YouTube’s current guidance before planning concurrent broadcasts because limits and interface behavior can change.
