You can schedule a YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio, but Studio does not itself turn a video playlist into a continuous live feed. Schedule the event in Live Control Room, then connect an encoder or cloud playout service that sends and loops your prerecorded videos. The event page and the playlist feed are separate parts of the setup.
What YouTube Studio schedules—and what it does not
A scheduled livestream creates an upcoming event and watch page, where viewers can set reminders. A separate encoder or playout system supplies the video and audio. YouTube’s API documentation likewise distinguishes broadcast resources from stream resources and describes a channel running a continuous feed alongside a separate event: YouTube Live Streaming API.
YouTube Studio’s scheduling workflow does not document a native feature that takes a YouTube video playlist and emits it as a continuous live stream. For a 24/7 ambient channel, the playlist must be played by an encoder or playout service connected to the scheduled broadcast.
Before you schedule: check eligibility, rights, and the playback plan
Confirm livestream eligibility
YouTube’s general livestreaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the current Live Control Room before setting a launch date, since eligibility and account status can affect whether you can start: YouTube livestreaming overview.

Make sure the music and visuals are cleared
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube warns that licensed material can still be flagged unless the channel is on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Confirm that your permissions cover livestream transmission and any replay or archive, and ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel when required. Choose how the playlist will run unattended
Use an encoder on a computer or hardware device you can keep running, or a cloud playout service. In either case, verify that the chosen system can play your files in the intended order, loop continuously, and recover in a way you can monitor. Those capabilities belong to the encoder or service; do not assume they are provided by the YouTube event scheduler.

Select Schedule stream. Reuse settings from a previous stream if appropriate, or create a new event.

Enter the event title and description, choose its privacy setting, and set the scheduled date and time. Scheduling creates an upcoming watch page that viewers can visit and use to set a reminder. YouTube documents the workflow and stream settings in its live stream settings guide.

Review the event page and its privacy before sharing it. Make sure the scheduled time reflects the time zone and start time you intend viewers to see.

Connect an encoder and configure the looping feed
Copy the server URL and stream key

Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and find its stream settings.

Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder or playout system. YouTube describes the key as the information that directs the encoder feed to YouTube and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it like a password: do not post it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed.

Start the encoder or playout feed. Check that Live Control Room receives the signal and that the preview shows the expected video and audio. YouTube’s official setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Use the event’s available controls to start the livestream when you are ready. The exact start action depends on the encoder workflow; confirm in Live Control Room that the event is live rather than relying only on the encoder’s local status.
Set up the playlist in the playout system
In the encoder or service, select the recordings or playlist and set the playback order, loop behavior, transitions, and unattended operation. Check that the final item returns to the first item without a gap or an unintended stop. Confirm that audio remains present and at an appropriate level throughout the playlist. YouTube’s event scheduling documentation does not define these controls, so consult the selected encoder or provider’s own instructions and test its behavior before relying on it.
Test, monitor, and plan for interruptions
- Rehearse before the public launch: YouTube recommends configuring the encoder ahead of time, previewing the stream, checking that viewers can access the watch page, and monitoring audio and video quality. Use a private or unlisted rehearsal where appropriate.
- Test the playlist boundary: Let the feed reach the end of a playlist and verify that it loops as intended. Check transitions and audio at the start, middle, and end.
- Test reconnection behavior: Determine what happens if the encoder loses its internet connection or YouTube stops receiving the feed. Recovery behavior is a property of the encoder or service; verify it rather than assuming it will resume automatically.
- Keep credentials controlled: Limit access to the stream key and replace it if it is shared or exposed.
- Monitor the actual stream: Check Live Control Room and the public watch page, not just the encoder dashboard. A connected encoder does not by itself confirm that the event is playing as intended for viewers.
Understand the replay and monetization limits
A 24/7 stream is not a guaranteed full replay
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 session exceeds that stated condition, so do not promise viewers a complete automatic replay. If an archive matters, consider shorter scheduled sessions or a separate recording workflow, and check current YouTube behavior before launch. The 12-hour condition is described in YouTube’s encoder livestream guidance.

YouTube’s stream-settings documentation describes an optional trailer feature for creators with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. That eligibility condition applies to the trailer feature, not to scheduling a livestream itself. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
Do not treat revenue as assured
Depending on channel eligibility and settings, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live revenue features. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so a longer stream does not guarantee a particular number of ads or amount of revenue. See YouTube’s live monetization guidance.
Choose local or cloud playout
A local encoder gives you direct control of the computer or device, but uninterrupted playback depends on its power, network connection, and maintenance. Cloud playout shifts those operational tasks to a provider. When comparing approaches, check looping and scheduling controls, recovery, monitoring, recording or archive support, rights workflow, and total cost. Do not assume every provider offers the same controls.
