A full Azure VM disk is a symptom, not proof that YouTube streaming caused the growth. First identify which volume is full and what is taking its space. Delete only files you have confirmed are disposable and no longer needed. If cleanup is not enough, expand the Azure managed disk and then extend its volume in Windows; those are separate steps.
Identify the full disk before deleting files
Check the drive letter and determine whether the full volume is the Windows OS disk, an attached Azure managed data disk, or the VM’s temporary disk. Then inspect usage and locate the largest files and folders. The streaming application and its configured log, cache, and temporary-file locations are not identified here, so do not assume a particular directory—or that the stream caused the growth.
Microsoft’s Azure IaaS VM logs guidance describes files that may be collected for troubleshooting with customer consent. Examples include Azure agent and diagnostics logs. That guidance is not a diagnosis of this VM, nor a blanket instruction to delete those files: establish what a file is used for and check retention or support needs before removing it.
Clear only confirmed disposable logs and temporary files
Check the application’s own storage locations
Identify the streaming software and inspect its configured log, cache, recording, and temporary directories. Check file sizes, age, and whether files are actively in use. Consult the application’s documentation or administrator before removing logs that may be needed for troubleshooting, or temporary files that a running workload still expects.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not assume Azure’s temporary disk is safe to empty
Azure’s temporary disk is distinct from a managed disk. Microsoft describes it as short-term storage for applications and processes, with examples such as page files and SQL Server tempdb. On Windows it is drive D by default, but confirm the VM’s configuration rather than relying on the default. Temporary-disk contents can be lost during maintenance, VM redeployment, or stopping the VM; they persist after a successful standard restart. See Microsoft’s temporary disk documentation.
“Temporary” does not mean “safe to erase.” Determine what is stored there and whether the workload can regenerate it. The streaming application’s behavior and paths are not established by Azure’s general VM documentation.

If cleanup is not enough, expand the disk and the Windows volume
Increasing Azure disk capacity and making that capacity available in Windows are distinct operations. Microsoft’s Windows VM disk-expansion guide covers resizing the Azure managed disk, followed by extending the Windows volume. Whether a resize requires VM deallocation depends on the disk and VM configuration; check the current eligibility and availability requirements in the guide before scheduling the change.
- Confirm the target. Identify the managed disk attached to the full Windows volume and verify the drive letter and partition. Do not confuse the managed disk with the temporary disk.
- Review resize requirements. Check the disk type, VM configuration, and whether the selected resize path requires deallocating the VM. Plan for any interruption that applies to your configuration rather than assuming every resize has the same availability impact.
- Resize the managed disk in Azure. Follow the Windows VM disk-expansion guide for the disk and configuration. Do not attempt to shrink an existing disk: Microsoft warns, “Shrinking an existing disk isn’t supported and might result in data loss.”
- Extend the volume in Windows. After Azure reports the larger disk, extend the correct Windows partition so the operating system can use the added capacity. Microsoft’s PowerShell tutorial demonstrates using
Get-PartitionSupportedSizeandResize-Partitionto extend a selected drive to its supported maximum. Verify the drive letter and target volume before running commands. - Verify the result. Confirm Windows shows the expected free space on the intended volume and that the streaming workload can write to its configured locations.
Troubleshoot when space remains low
- The wrong volume was cleaned or resized: Recheck the full drive letter and map it to the OS disk, attached managed data disk, or temporary disk before further action.
- Deleting a file did not restore enough space: Inspect current disk usage again and identify what remains large. Do not infer that a streaming log is responsible without confirming its location and size.
- The Azure disk is larger but Windows still shows the old capacity: Complete the separate Windows volume-extension step for the correct partition.
- A file looks like an Azure log: Microsoft’s troubleshooting-log reference identifies files that may be collected with customer consent; it does not establish that they are disposable. Confirm retention and support requirements before deletion.
- The temporary disk contains workload data: Verify whether the application can regenerate it before clearing it, and account for the documented lifecycle events that can remove temporary-disk contents.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the reason for this VM is keeping a pre-recorded YouTube stream online, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the uploaded video looping, so no home computer or connection has to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos streaming to YouTube, not a camera feed. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
