If your YouTube loop stream went offline after you renamed or moved its video, update the file path saved in the affected OBS source. For one video, edit the Media Source and select the file at its current location; for a playlist, update the affected entry in VLC Video. Check playback in OBS first, then check the stream separately in YouTube Live Control Room.
Fix the renamed file path in OBS
- Find the source carrying the video. In OBS, select the relevant source in the Sources list. A single local video is commonly a Media Source; a sequence of files may be loaded through VLC Video. OBS explains the source types in its Sources Guide.
- For one video, repoint Media Source. Open the source’s Properties and use its local file picker to select the renamed or moved file at its current location. If you want the video to repeat, leave Loop enabled. OBS documents Media Source and its loop behavior in Media Sources.
- For a playlist, repair VLC Video. Open the source properties and update the playlist entry whose file path changed; alternatively, remove that entry and add the file again from its current location. Enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should restart after its final item.
- Verify local playback. Check the OBS preview to confirm that the intended video appears and its audio is present. If the preview is missing the video, check that the file exists and opens on the computer, then verify the source path or playlist entry again.
- Verify the broadcast separately. Check the preview and stream status in YouTube Live Control Room. A working OBS preview confirms local playback, not that OBS is connected to YouTube. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video quality in its live streaming tips for computer.
The diagnosis is straightforward: OBS sources point to local media files, so a rename or move can leave a source pointing at the old path. OBS documents how these sources work, but does not describe a special recovery dialog for renamed files. Menu wording can vary by OBS version and operating system.
Choose the right source and loop setting

For Media Source, OBS documents video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources documentation for details.
Loop settings control local playback only: they do not repair an outdated path, configure a YouTube stream key or guarantee that a live stream stays online.

If OBS preview works but YouTube is offline
Stop changing the media path once the intended video plays correctly in OBS. Investigate the connection from OBS to YouTube instead. OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as possible network problems between the computer and the remote ingest server; its stream connection troubleshooting guide explains what to check.
- Confirm OBS is using the intended YouTube stream URL and stream key. YouTube provides encoder settings, including the URL and key, through Live Control Room; see Manage live stream settings.
- Check OBS connection status and troubleshoot dropped frames or disconnections as connection issues, rather than changing a source that already plays locally.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and status. If the public playback is delayed or unavailable despite a healthy local preview, use YouTube’s monitoring guidance to distinguish a local source issue from a live ingest or playback issue.
Keep the source from breaking again
Keep the loop file in a stable folder after configuring OBS. If you rename or move it later, revisit the Media Source path or VLC playlist entry and select the file from its new location. This is practical advice based on OBS sources referring to local files, not a guarantee that OBS will relink moved media automatically.

OBS Profiles and Scene Collections serve different backup and transfer purposes: profiles save most output and stream settings, while scenes are stored in Scene Collections. Exporting or importing a profile does not itself establish that a moved media file will be relinked. See OBS Profiles.
