A failed YouTube publish from a Hostinger VPS in India does not, by itself, show that India routing or Hostinger is the cause. Start by checking the exact RTMPS server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room, then confirm your encoder’s TLS settings and test outbound connectivity from the VPS itself. The actual error—TLS failure, timeout, key/startup error, or a connected but unhealthy feed—determines what to check next.
First identify where publishing fails
Record the encoder name and version, the UTC time of the failure, and the complete relevant log lines. Note whether the key was recently reset and whether you tried another network path. Redact the stream key from logs or screenshots before sharing them.
Classify the symptom before changing settings:
- TLS or certificate error: focus on the RTMPS endpoint, port, TLS, and SNI configuration.
- Connection timeout: verify the endpoint and encoder first, then test outbound reachability from the VPS and inspect firewall or provider policy.
- Startup or key error: refresh and re-copy the stream key, then update the encoder.
- Connected but no feed, or an unhealthy feed: inspect YouTube’s diagnostics, encoder output, logs, and CPU load.
A local preview that looks healthy does not prove that video is reaching YouTube.
Copy the current YouTube RTMPS URL and key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and go to Stream settings.
- Copy the current server URL shown there. YouTube may display an RTMP URL by default; use the lock control to reveal the RTMPS URL, as described in YouTube’s stream setup instructions.
- Copy the stream key separately into the encoder’s key field. Keep the URL and key in their respective fields; do not combine them or use an old or guessed endpoint.
If you suspect the key is stale or an encoder reports a startup error, refresh the key in Live Control Room and enter the new one. Never include the key in support tickets, screenshots, or publicly shared logs.

Verify RTMPS transport and encoder support
RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS. The endpoint must be the exact one supplied by Live Control Room, and the connection must use TCP port 443. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide states that the connection must be made to port 443 on the ingestion server. Do not take a guessed RTMP address and merely change its scheme to rtmps.
For a custom encoder or client implementation, Google’s guide also requires the ingestion hostname in the TLS Server Name Indication (SNI) handshake. A client that reaches the host but sends cleartext RTMP, uses the wrong port, or omits required SNI may still fail to publish. Confirm that the encoder version is current and supports RTMPS.

Check the encoder before blaming the VPS network
- Update the encoder and confirm RTMPS is selected or supported for the configured destination.
- Re-enter the current server URL and key from Live Control Room.
- Check the encoder’s own output or preview, logs, and CPU load while attempting to publish.
- If the same configuration still fails, try a different encoder to determine whether the problem is specific to the original client.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends refreshing the stream key for third-party encoder startup errors, updating the encoder, checking output and CPU/load, and testing outbound connectivity when the encoder appears healthy.
Test outbound connectivity from the actual VPS
Run connection checks on the Hostinger VPS that is failing—not only from your laptop or another server. Test DNS resolution and TCP/TLS connectivity to the exact current ingestion hostname on port 443 while the encoder is attempting to publish. Record the destination hostname and port, source VPS IP, UTC timestamp, and command output for troubleshooting.

A generic successful HTTPS request shows only basic reachability. It does not prove that the encoder’s RTMPS connection succeeds with the required TLS negotiation and SNI. If the correctly configured connection times out, check the VPS’s local firewall rules and Hostinger’s VPS firewall controls. If it still fails, send Hostinger the timestamped test results and encoder logs and ask them to investigate that instance’s outbound route, egress policy, or any network event. YouTube likewise advises contacting the internet service provider when connection issues persist.
What Hostinger’s port guidance does—and does not—establish
Hostinger’s published port guidance says outgoing ports on its servers are open except ports 0 and 25. It also distinguishes fixed port settings for Web and Cloud hosting from VPS, where users have more port control. That general statement does not document the active firewall configuration or route for a particular VPS instance. It therefore cannot establish that port 443 is reachable from your server, nor does it show that Hostinger blocks YouTube publishing from India.
