Check channel access and live-stream eligibility separately from the key: confirm the right channel and account, copy the current key from YouTube Studio, and update the encoder if the key was reset.
First, separate a permission problem from a key problem
YouTube Help describes a stream key as the credential that tells an encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” A permissions change can affect what the signed-in account is allowed to do, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that changing channel permissions automatically rotates or invalidates a stream key. Treat access and key state as separate checks rather than assuming the change caused a key reset.
The API error livePermissionBlocked refers to insufficient live permission, which is distinct from an incorrect or outdated encoder key. The error may point to an access issue; it does not establish that the key itself is wrong.
Fix the problem in this order

Confirm the account and selected channel
In YouTube Studio, make sure the account and channel in use are the ones intended for the broadcast. If someone changed channel permissions, ask the channel owner or manager to confirm that the account or connected workflow still has the access needed to use live features. Permission roles and interface behavior can change, so verify the current access in YouTube’s interface rather than relying on an old role description.

Check that the channel can still go live
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If the channel is not eligible or is restricted, replacing the stream key will not restore live access. Check YouTube Studio for eligibility or restriction notices.

Copy the current key into the encoder
In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Stream, find Stream key, and copy the current key into the encoder’s stream-key field. Confirm that the encoder is pointed at the intended YouTube channel. Do not share the key publicly: it allows software to send a feed to your channel.

If you reset the key, replace it everywhere it is used
Use Reset in Live Control Room only when you have a reason to replace the credential. After a reset, update the encoder with the newly generated key; an encoder still using the previous key will not be sending with the replacement. YouTube’s role guidance says owners and managers can reset stream keys, while editors and viewers cannot. If you do not have the required access, ask an owner or manager to perform the reset.

Identify whether the encoder uses a key or direct sign-in
Some third-party software connects by signing into YouTube instead of using a pasted stream key. If that is your setup, refreshing a key may not address the problem. YouTube advises users of direct-sign-in software to contact that software’s support team. For a key-based setup, check and replace the key in the encoder itself.

Check the encoder and its connection
Update the encoder if an update is available, verify that it shows an active output, and inspect the stream status in YouTube’s Live Control Room. If the encoder appears to be sending but YouTube is not receiving the feed, test the outbound internet connection. YouTube recommends contacting your internet provider if a connection test shows problems.

Escalate with the exact error
If the account has live access, the channel is eligible, the encoder has the current key, and the connection appears healthy, use YouTube’s live-stream support route and include the exact error and what you have checked. For software that connects through direct sign-in, contact the encoder vendor.

What to check when the symptom persists
- You see
livePermissionBlocked: focus on whether the acting account can use live features and whether the intended channel is selected. This API error describes insufficient live permission, not proof of a bad key. - You reset the key but the encoder still fails: confirm that the replacement was saved in the correct encoder profile and that the encoder is targeting the right channel.
- You cannot access or reset the key: ask a channel owner or manager to check access and, if needed, reset the key.
- YouTube Studio shows a restriction or eligibility issue: resolve that channel-level issue first; changing the key alone does not remove a live-stream restriction.
- The encoder reports output, but YouTube receives nothing: inspect the encoder’s output status and outbound network connection, then contact your internet provider if the connection test indicates a problem.
- You sign in to YouTube inside the encoder: contact the encoder’s support team rather than treating this as a pasted-key problem.
