A 1-OCPU, 6-GB Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Ampere A1 VM running continuously for 30 days uses 720 OCPU-hours and 4,320 GB-hours. Those amounts are below Oracle’s published monthly A1 allowances of 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours, and a typical single stream is also well below the listed first 10 TB/month of free outbound transfer. That does not guarantee a zero bill: eligibility and other A1 usage matter, and boot-volume storage is billed separately.
There is no reliable universal monthly price without your region, VM shape, volume size, stream bitrate, and account terms. This guide shows how to estimate the compute and network costs, identify charges that can remain, and check the configuration before running a stream.
What the 30-day example costs—and what “free” means
OCI prices Ampere A1 by its selected OCPU and memory resources. For a VM configured with 1 OCPU and 6 GB of memory, left running for 30 days (720 hours), the usage is:
| Resource | 30-day use | Oracle’s published A1 monthly allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Compute, 1 OCPU × 720 hours | 720 OCPU-hours | 3,000 OCPU-hours |
| Memory, 6 GB × 720 hours | 4,320 GB-hours | 18,000 GB-hours |
Oracle’s public Cloud Price List, accessed October 3, 2026, lists these monthly allowances for Ampere A1. The example’s compute usage is within them if the allowance applies to the account and there is no other A1 use consuming it. Treat this as a usage comparison, not a promise that your total invoice will be zero. Check the current terms for your tenancy and region on Oracle’s Cloud Price List.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Oracle also lists the first 10 TB per month of outbound data transfer as free in its listed regions. Stream traffic can therefore fit within the published egress allowance, but actual billing depends on region, account terms, all outbound usage, and the rate card in effect.
Estimate outbound data from the stream bitrate
Continuous video traffic is approximately encoded bitrate multiplied by runtime, divided by eight to convert bits to bytes. At a constant 1 Mbps for 30 days, the stream transfers about 0.324 TB (decimal). At 3 Mbps, it is about 0.972 TB, before protocol overhead. These are arithmetic estimates, not measured traffic; actual transfer varies with the encoder’s sustained bitrate and overhead.

Use the bitrate of the stream you actually send, not the source file’s size or nominal resolution. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers recommended resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings: YouTube Live encoder settings. Select settings appropriate to the source material and verify the resulting stream bitrate. Then compare the monthly transfer estimate with the allowance for your region and account.
How to calculate your likely OCI bill
- Choose a region and shape. Rates and capacity are region-dependent. For A1 Flex, select OCPUs and memory independently; network bandwidth scales with OCPUs. Oracle notes that A1 capacity may be limited, so availability is not assured. Review the OCI compute shapes documentation.
- Calculate monthly resource hours. Multiply configured OCPUs by hours running, and configured memory in GB by those hours. For a 30-day continuous run, use 720 hours as the estimate. Flexible-shape usage is billed per second with a one-minute minimum.
- Apply only allowances that your account qualifies for. Subtract any applicable A1 monthly allowance from the usage, accounting for other A1 resources in the tenancy. Do not assume the full allowance is available to this one VM.
- Price any remainder using the selected region’s rates. A1 OCPU and memory are separate resource SKUs. Multiply each billable remainder by its relevant regional rate. Use Oracle’s Cloud Cost Estimator or the current price list rather than applying a rate from another region.
- Add storage and other services. A boot volume is required. Boot volumes and additional block storage use standard Block Volume pricing in addition to compute, so include the selected volume size and any other services in the estimate.
- Estimate egress separately. Multiply encoded bitrate by continuous runtime and divide by eight; allow for overhead. Compare total outbound traffic—not just the stream—with the applicable regional allowance and price tier.
This method gives a defensible estimate for your setup. A fixed paid total cannot be calculated without the region, shape, storage choice, bitrate, account terms, and other tenancy usage.

Configuration and capacity can change the result
A1 Flex lets you choose OCPUs and memory, and network bandwidth scales with OCPUs. A1 uses one vCPU per OCPU; OCI x86 shapes use two vCPUs per OCPU, so equal OCPU counts do not represent equal thread counts across those architectures. Compare both resource-hour needs and the workload rather than treating OCPU as a universal measure of encoding capacity.
The allowance arithmetic alone does not establish whether a particular VM can encode or relay your chosen video reliably. No workload benchmark is implied here. Confirm that the selected instance has available capacity and test the full stream configuration before depending on it.
