You can send separate outputs from your streaming setup or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it to your selected channels. Before going live, check each platform’s eligibility rules, stream-key requirements, connection capacity, and policies.
What multistreaming means
Multistreaming—also called simulcasting or simulstreaming—is broadcasting the same live content to multiple platforms at once. Twitch Help uses the definition “Simulcasting, or multistreaming, refers to the act of broadcasting the same stream to multiple platforms at once.” YouTube calls going live with the same content on multiple platforms simultaneously “simulstreaming.” Twitch Help: Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ · YouTube Help: Stream across platforms
The program might be a live camera and microphone feed, a presentation, a performance, or another broadcast. Multistreaming is about distributing that live program; it does not mean automatically combining separate platform audiences or chats.
How a multistream reaches multiple platforms
Send separate outputs from your encoder
Your streaming setup sends an output to each destination. This can provide more direct control over each destination’s settings, but the exact configuration depends on your encoder and platform support. The sources linked here do not establish a universal native OBS procedure or quantify the extra local encoding and upload capacity this approach may require. Check the current documentation for your encoder and destinations before configuring it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Send one feed through a cloud relay
You send one stream from your encoder to a multistreaming service; the service forwards it to the channels you select. This can simplify distribution, but it makes your broadcast dependent on the relay service, its currently supported destinations and plan limits, and its service behavior. Restream describes account connection or using a service stream key in OBS, selecting destination channels, then starting the broadcast from OBS. It also describes centralized chat and analytics across connected platforms as service features; those are vendor-described capabilities, not a guarantee that every platform or plan supports the same options. The following is Restream’s documented workflow, not an independently tested configuration. Menu labels and available integrations can change, so follow the current instructions shown in OBS and Restream.

- Create or sign in to your Restream account. Connect the destination channels you intend to use. Restream documents an example that includes Twitch and YouTube. Restream’s Twitch and YouTube example
- Connect OBS to Restream. In OBS, select Restream as the service if that option is available, or enter the stream key Restream provides. Restream also documents account connection as an option.
- Check the selected destinations. In Restream, confirm that the channels you want to receive the broadcast are selected and that each account is ready to go live.
- Start the stream from OBS. Check each destination to confirm the broadcast is arriving before treating the event as live for your audience.
Why creators multistream—and what it does not guarantee
- Meet viewers on different platforms: YouTube says cross-platform streaming lets creators reach viewers where they prefer to watch. That is a reason to consider multistreaming, not evidence that it will increase a particular creator’s audience or revenue.
- Consolidate some tasks: A relay may provide a single distribution workflow. Restream describes centralized chat in OBS and analytics across connected platforms; check the service’s current plan and supported integrations for the features you need.
- Accept a dependency when using a relay: A cloud service becomes part of the path between your encoder and viewers. Its destinations, limits, and behavior matter to whether your setup fits.
- Keep control when sending separate outputs: Direct outputs can offer more control in principle, but their technical demands depend on the specific encoder, stream settings, and destinations. There is not enough evidence here to claim a universal performance advantage.
Check requirements and policies before you go live
Confirm every destination is eligible
YouTube says the channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. Its help page notes that enabling a first live stream can take at least 24 hours after the first request. Other services also need active accounts in good standing. Check each destination’s current requirements and allow time for activation rather than assuming a newly enabled channel can stream immediately. YouTube’s cross-platform streaming requirements
Get the connection details your workflow needs
Depending on the encoder and integration, you may need a stream key or an RTMP server URL for a destination. An account connection or relay integration may handle some of this instead. Treat stream keys as credentials: use the destination’s current instructions, do not share them publicly, and replace a key if you believe it has been exposed.

Check upload capacity against your actual settings
YouTube says sufficient upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming. The required capacity depends on your chosen stream configuration and workflow; no numeric upload-speed target is established here. Do not rely on a generic figure: check the requirements for your encoder and destinations, then test the intended settings on your connection.
Read the rules, including Twitch’s simulcasting guidance
Twitch’s Simulcasting Guidelines apply unless you have an agreement requiring exclusivity. Twitch says creators must not degrade the Twitch viewing experience compared with other services; its FAQ gives shrinking the Twitch video or otherwise making its quality worse as an example. Twitch also says you may not use the platform to drive users to a live stream on another service. Read the current policy and any agreement that applies to your account before simulcasting. - Confirm that each destination supports your chosen workflow and that each account is active and eligible.
- Obtain each required stream key or RTMP URL, unless an account integration handles the connection.
- Review platform rules and any exclusivity agreement that applies to you.
- Check that your upload connection can support the intended stream configuration and workflow.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test event, then check every destination for the expected picture and sound before a public broadcast.
