To loop a prerecorded product demo on YouTube Live with OBS, add it as a looping Media Source, connect OBS to YouTube with a stream key, and choose output settings your PC and upload connection can sustain. For several finished demos, use OBS’s VLC Video source with a playlist. A local OBS loop still depends on the computer, power, and home internet staying available; the steps below are for a prerecorded broadcast, not a live camera production.
Choose the right kind of loop
- One finished demo: add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop.
- Several finished demos: add a VLC Video source, build a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed.
- Live camera, operator changes, or interactive overlays: use OBS as a local production setup; a file-loop service is not a substitute for real-time camera input.
- Unattended continuous replay: OBS can repeat media, but local power, the PC, and its internet connection remain dependencies.
OBS Media Sources supports MP4 and several other video formats, and its source settings include optional hardware decoding where the GPU has a suitable decoder. See OBS Media Sources.
Prepare YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and start the live-stream setup workflow. If this is the first time the channel is enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- In the live control workflow, copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The exact screen layout can change, so follow the current YouTube encoder workflow at YouTube Help: encoder workflow.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not display it in a screen recording, stream preview, or public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
Build the looping scene in OBS
For one prerecorded demo
- In OBS, choose a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources box, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose the local video file and enable Loop in the source properties.
- Check the preview: confirm the product is framed and readable, and that any audio is present at a useful level.
For a playlist of demos
- Install VLC if it is not already available on the computer.
- In the OBS scene’s Sources box, select + and add VLC Video.
- Add the finished demo clips to the source playlist in the order you want them played.
- Check Loop Playlist. OBS documents this option as enabled by default, but verify it in the source properties.
- Preview the transition between clips and the return from the last clip to the first; fix black gaps, mismatched audio, or an awkward loop seam before going live.
For supported formats and source options, consult OBS Media Sources.
Choose settings a low-power PC can sustain
There is no universally safe resolution or encoder setting for an unspecified low-power PC. The result depends on the processor and graphics hardware, operating system, video file, scene complexity, and upload capacity. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point: it considers intended use, computer hardware, and network conditions. Then run a representative test rather than assuming a profile will work.

- On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.
- In OBS, open Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard and follow the prompts for streaming.
- Start with a modest output resolution and frame rate that fit both the source and audience. If the system struggles, reduce resolution or frame rate; OBS notes that 60 fps can be much more demanding than 30 fps.
- Open OBS’s encoder options and use a supported hardware encoder if one is available and performs well on your system. OBS lists options including NVENC, AMD AMF, and Intel Quick Sync, with hardware and platform qualifications. Do not choose by brand alone: test the available option. Earlier-generation hardware encoders can deliver lower image quality.
- If no suitable hardware encoder is available, or encoding overload persists, lower output resolution or frame rate and simplify the scene by removing expensive sources and effects.
- Check that the chosen output is legible for the demo. Small labels and product details may need more resolution than a simple wide shot.
OBS generally recommends hardware encoding because it moves work off the CPU to a specialized component, but the right choice depends on the hardware in the actual PC. See OBS Hardware Encoding, OBS performance troubleshooting, and OBS system requirements.
Match YouTube’s ingest settings and upload capacity
YouTube’s encoder settings page lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264/H.265/AV1 options, CBR, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. For H.264, YouTube’s current encoder settings page, accessed in 2026, recommends these reference bitrates:
Rank #2
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
| Output | YouTube H.264 reference bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
These are starting reference values, not guarantees that a particular connection or PC will sustain a stable broadcast. Use CBR and the recommended keyframe interval in the encoder profile, then run a speed test and select a bitrate the upload connection can reliably maintain. YouTube’s settings and guidance are at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Test the complete demo before going live
- Use a representative portion of the actual demo, including movement, text, narration, and music if present.
- Check the OBS preview and YouTube Live Control Room for stream health and warning messages.
- Listen for clear narration and check that all music and other audio are authorized for the intended broadcast.
- Verify that product details remain readable at the selected output resolution and that the loop or playlist transition does not interrupt the presentation.
- Make adjustments and test again if YouTube reports instability or OBS shows encoding overload. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health; see YouTube streaming tips.
Keep a local loop running: what OBS does and does not handle
OBS repeats the source, but it does not make the broadcast independent of the PC or home connection. For a long-running local stream, someone or something still needs to notice and address a computer shutdown, power loss, network interruption, or encoding problem. Consider the local workflow when you need a live camera, hands-on control, or scene changes; consider a cloud loop when the content is finished video intended for unattended replay.

Common problems and fixes
- The clip stops at the end: reopen Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For multiple clips, verify the VLC Video playlist and Loop Playlist.
- OBS cannot play the file: confirm the file path and format, and consult OBS’s supported Media Source formats. Test another supported file if needed.
- Video stutters or OBS reports encoding overload: lower output resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, and test a suitable hardware encoder if one is available.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or drops frames: check actual upload stability, reduce the bitrate to a level the connection can sustain, and retest. A bitrate that fits the encoder profile on paper may still exceed a variable home uplink.
- The stream does not connect: check the stream URL and key in OBS against the current YouTube live workflow. If the key was shown publicly, reset it rather than continuing to use an exposed credential.
- The demo looks soft or product text is unreadable: check the source file and output resolution, then retest at a sustainable setting that preserves the detail viewers need.
Or let it run in the cloud
