To play several videos one after another in OBS, add them to a VLC Video source, arrange the playlist in the intended order, and leave Shuffle Playlist off. Turn Loop Playlist on if you want the list to restart after the final video. Add that source to the scene you stream to YouTube, then test playback and preview the incoming feed in YouTube Studio before going live.
Choose the right OBS media source
| Source | Best for | Sequence and playback controls | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| VLC Video | Several local videos played as one playlist | Playlist order, Shuffle Playlist, and Loop Playlist | VLC installed; OBS’s guide specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS |
| Media Source | One local video file | Per-file loop, restart when active, and show-nothing-when-playback-ends options | No VLC requirement stated for this source |
OBS documents both source types for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Use VLC Video when you need multiple files in one playlist; use Media Source when you only need a single file. (OBS Media Sources)
Set up a playlist in OBS
1. Install VLC if needed
Install VLC before adding a VLC Video source. Match its architecture to OBS: if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. The VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries. (OBS Media Sources)
2. Add VLC Video to the scene
- Open the scene you intend to send to YouTube in OBS.
- In the Sources dock, select + and add VLC Video.
- Create or select the source, then add the local video files to its playlist.
- Arrange the files in the order you want them to play.
Scenes determine the composition sent by OBS, and sources are the elements placed in that composition. Make sure the VLC Video source is in the scene that will be live. (OBS Sources Guide)

3. Set order, shuffle, and looping

The VLC Video source also has controls for visibility behavior, network caching, audio track, and subtitles. These are separate from the playlist’s order and loop behavior. (OBS Media Sources)
4. Check the scene layout
Confirm the source is visible and fits the composition. Position and size it in the preview as needed. If you use other sources in the scene, check their ordering and visibility so they do not obscure the video.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream.
- In OBS’s streaming settings, select YouTube as the service and enter the URL and key. Use the values provided in YouTube Studio.
- Keep the stream key private. It functions as a credential; do not show it in the video or publish it.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key to connect the encoder to the live stream. See YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
Rehearse and monitor the playlist
- Start playback in OBS and confirm the first video appears and its audio is audible.
- Check that the videos advance in the intended order and that the final-item behavior matches your loop setting.
- Preview the incoming feed in the Live Control Room before the event. YouTube recommends testing before starting a live stream.
- During the broadcast, monitor the stream’s audio and video quality. Test with conditions similar to the planned stream where possible.
Use YouTube’s live streaming tips for computers and encoder settings guidance for its testing and monitoring recommendations.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that should keep uploaded videos playing 24/7, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams uploaded video—not a camera feed—and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with the first day free and no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
