To schedule prerecorded video as a YouTube Live stream, create an event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect an encoder with the event’s stream URL and stream key, send the video to YouTube, check the preview, then select Go live at the right time. Scheduling the event alone does not transmit the video. For a scheduled group viewing of an uploaded video, a YouTube Premiere may be simpler.
For viewers in India, promote the start time clearly in Indian Standard Time (IST) and verify the time and date shown on the public watch page before sharing it.
Choose Live or Premiere first

YouTube describes Premieres as a way for creators and viewers to watch a new video together in real time. Viewers can set reminders; YouTube says reminder notifications arrive around 30 minutes before the Premiere and when it starts. YouTube recommends scheduling a Premiere at least 24 hours ahead to give people around the world time to see its thumbnail in subscriptions. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee of reach. Check channel eligibility and prepare your video
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help, so do not leave eligibility checks until the event day. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
- Choose an encoder that can play your prerecorded video and send it to YouTube Live. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; it describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming.
- Check that you have a stable upload connection and enough upload capacity for the stream. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Prepare the title, description, thumbnail, audience setting, and the intended IST start time. If viewers are joining for a documentary screening, make the event’s subject and start time easy to identify.
Schedule the Live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage, then choose Schedule stream. You can create a stream or reuse settings from a previous one. The precise labels may vary as YouTube updates Studio. YouTube Help: Schedule a live stream
- Enter the event details and set its scheduled date and time. Review the audience-facing details before saving.
- Publish or share the scheduled watch-page URL so viewers can find the event. Scheduled streams may appear in subscriber feeds, where viewers can choose Notify me.
- For an Indian audience, write the start time as IST in the event promotion and ask a trusted viewer to check the public page’s displayed local time. YouTube says the published-on date shown on a watch page is based on Pacific Standard Time; a Studio schedule set in a timezone ahead of PST can therefore show a different calendar date on the watch page. Do not assume the date displayed to every viewer will match the date in your promotion. YouTube Help: Schedule video publishing
YouTube’s guidance does not establish a universally best hour for Indian viewers or document the exact timezone controls for every Live Control Room account. Choose a time that suits the intended audience, state it explicitly as IST, and verify the public listing.

Connect the encoder and run a preview
- In the event’s Live Control Room settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or share it with viewers. YouTube Help: Schedule a live stream
- Load the prerecorded video or playlist in the encoder and check that playback, audio, and any production elements are correct. If your goal is continuous playback, verify the encoder’s own looping or playlist behavior rather than assuming YouTube will loop the source video.
- Set up the encoder well in advance. YouTube recommends beginning setup at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so you can inspect the preview. - Start sending the feed from the encoder. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then verify the picture and sound before you select Go live.
- Check that the public watch page opens and that the event can be viewed on a phone as well as on the channel page. If possible, have a trusted viewer confirm that the listing shows the expected time before you finish promoting it.
- At the scheduled start, select Go live in Live Control Room. When the event is over, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder from sending.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need an archive, keep the event below that duration and confirm the recording is available after the broadcast. YouTube Help: Schedule a live stream
Optional route: dedicated encoder hardware
YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes a PlayToStream capability for scheduled prerecorded-media playback to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a specialized hardware option, not a requirement: YouTube also supports encoder software and other hardware. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule the prerecorded video itself in YouTube Studio?
No. Studio schedules the Live event; an encoder or compatible playback device must send the video feed.
Can I use a Premiere instead of an encoder?
Yes, if the goal is a scheduled shared viewing of an uploaded video rather than an encoder-driven live broadcast.
