The encoder must keep advancing through the playlist and recover if it stops; Linode provides the virtual machine, not a ready-made 24/7 streaming service.
Before provisioning a server, confirm you have permission to livestream every video and audio track. Then choose whether your files can be sent without re-encoding or need transcoding, since that decision affects server capacity and operating cost.
Before you begin: check channel access and content rights
Confirm YouTube Live is available for your channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and verify it before scheduling a stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Clear the rights for the entire playlist
Check each recording, performance, image and audio track, including background music. Having a local copy or calling a playlist “Hindi” does not grant permission to broadcast or archive it. YouTube’s terms make the content provider responsible for having the necessary rights, including music rights, and for following applicable laws and Community Guidelines.

YouTube scans live feeds for third-party content. A match can produce a warning or placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and ask rights holders about allowlisting where appropriate.
Choose a Linode setup that fits the playlist
Linode, now part of Akamai Cloud, gives you a virtual Linux server. You are responsible for making the media available, configuring the encoder, supervising the process and planning for failures. Review the current compute-instance documentation for supported distributions, plan details and transfer allowances; availability and plan terms can vary by region.

Estimate compute, disk and outbound transfer
- CPU: If the encoder transcodes, choose a plan based on the actual source files and output settings, then monitor CPU use during a representative run. Passing through compatible files without re-encoding may require less processing, but the workload still needs to be checked.
- Memory and disk: Allow enough memory for the operating system and media process, and enough disk—or reliable access to remote storage—for the files and any working space.
- Outbound data: Your server sends the live feed continuously to YouTube. Estimate monthly transfer from the output bitrate: bitrate in megabits per second × 0.45 is approximately gigabytes per day using decimal units; multiply by 30 for an approximate 30-day total. For example, a continuous 4 Mbps output is about 1.8 GB per hour, or 43.2 GB per day, before protocol overhead. Compare the estimate with the plan’s transfer allowance and current overage terms.
- Network capacity: YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. A plan’s advertised transfer allowance alone does not establish that its network connection will sustain your stream.
Akamai’s current plan overview lists Shared CPU plans starting at $5/month and Dedicated CPU plans starting at $36/month; these are starting prices, not a recommendation for a particular stream, and pricing and availability can vary. Check the live Akamai Cloud pricing page before creating an instance. An older Linode RTMP guide used a 1 GB instance as sufficient for one stream in that guide’s scenario. It is not a current sizing guarantee for a 24/7 playlist, particularly if you transcode.
Decide whether to send directly or add an RTMP relay
If your encoder can send its output straight to YouTube, that is the simpler path: fewer services and processes to maintain. An NGINX RTMP relay is optional, not a YouTube requirement; it adds a layer that may suit a particular workflow but also adds configuration and another point to monitor. Linode’s RTMP guide illustrates NGINX RTMP and FFmpeg on Ubuntu 20.04. Treat it as an older implementation example, not as current package instructions or a performance promise.

Set up the playlist encoder and YouTube event
- Create the Linode: In Akamai Cloud, create a compute instance with a supported Linux distribution. Secure administrative access, apply current system updates and restrict access to the server. Keep the video files readable by the account that runs the encoder.
- Choose and configure the media process: Install a playlist-capable encoder appropriate to your files and configure it to advance through the Hindi videos continuously. The exact playlist syntax and loop behavior depend on the software and input formats; verify those details against the encoder’s current documentation and test the full playlist before relying on it. Decide whether to pass compatible files through or transcode them, and check output playback and server load.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio: Open YouTube’s encoder setup instructions, create or schedule the stream, then copy the server URL and stream key shown for that event. Put those values in the encoder’s destination settings and keep the key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel; reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Set the output for YouTube: Prefer RTMPS where available. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a resolution, frame rate and bitrate that match your source material, encoder capacity and available upload bandwidth. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings and recommendations for the current settings reference rather than assuming every playlist should use the same output.
- Start and preview: Start the encoder on Linode, then check the incoming preview in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Complete the event’s start flow if Studio prompts you. Confirm both picture and sound before leaving the stream unattended.
Keep the stream running and plan for recovery
A continuous stream is an operating task, not just an encoder command. Monitor the encoder process, CPU and memory, available disk, file readability, outbound network use and YouTube’s preview. Keep the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Configure a restart strategy for an encoder exit or server restart, and make sure an automatic restart does not repeatedly send a broken file or invalid stream configuration. The exact process manager and restart settings are implementation choices; Linode and YouTube do not prescribe one universal setup.
- Process exits: Check the encoder’s logs for a missing file, unsupported format, permissions problem or network error. Correct the cause before restarting it.
- Playlist stops advancing: Test the playlist order and loop option with the selected encoder. Check that every file remains accessible and readable by the process account.
- YouTube loses the feed: Check the server’s outbound connection and the encoder destination, then inspect the Studio preview. If the encoder has stopped, restart it after correcting the underlying issue.
- Playback is unstable: Compare actual upload bandwidth with the configured bitrate, preserve YouTube’s 20% headroom, and review encoder resource use. Reduce the workload or output settings if the server cannot sustain them.
- Content warning or interruption: Review YouTube’s notice and resolve the rights or policy issue. Do not assume that a license automatically prevents a Content ID interruption; confirm allowlisting with the rights holder when needed.
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video. These steps reduce avoidable failures, but a self-managed Linode instance does not come with a guaranteed 24/7 availability level for this workflow.

Understand YouTube archives and stream length
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” Do not assume a single uninterrupted stream of any length will be saved as one video. If the archive matters, plan stream segments under 12 hours and verify the current archive behavior in YouTube’s encoder-stream guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not maintain a Linode, encoder process and restart setup, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
