Can You Start a New YouTube Livestream Immediately After Ending One?

You can generally start another YouTube livestream right after ending one: YouTube publishes no cooldown, but eligibility and concurrent-stream limits still apply.

Generally, yes. YouTube’s current help guidance does not state a required cooldown between ending one livestream and starting another. You can start again if your channel is eligible and you have not reached YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits. That is not a guarantee: account restrictions, encoder errors, or temporary platform problems can still prevent a new broadcast.

Is there a cooldown between YouTube livestreams?

YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” guidance sets eligibility requirements and limits on concurrent streams, but does not list a waiting period after a stream ends. In other words, there is no published cooldown to wait out; the key question is whether your channel can start another stream at that moment.

What can stop you from going live again?

Channel eligibility or a livestream restriction

YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to livestream. A strike can prevent livestreaming for 14 days. If your account has an active restriction, do not try to get around it by livestreaming from another channel; YouTube says that is not allowed.

Concurrent stream limits

YouTube lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are simultaneous-stream caps, not a post-stream waiting period. YouTube’s wording is: “Once either limit is reached, you will not be able to start additional streams.” If another broadcast is still active, end it before trying again.

How to start another stream

The exact steps depend on whether you broadcast from a webcam or mobile device, or use an encoder such as streaming software. For an encoder stream, ending the event in Live Control Room and stopping the encoder from sending content are separate parts of closing the broadcast.

  1. Close the previous broadcast. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, end the event when applicable, then stop the stream in your encoder. Confirm the old broadcast is no longer active.
  2. Check that the channel can go live. Make sure the channel remains eligible and that no active restriction is blocking livestreaming.
  3. Create a new stream. Start a new livestream in YouTube Studio. For an encoder workflow, use the stream details and key configured for that event.
  4. Reuse settings if helpful. YouTube lets creators reuse settings from a previous stream when creating another one. Check the title, visibility, audience, and other event details before going live, rather than assuming every prior setting is still appropriate.
  5. Start the encoder or device. Begin sending video and audio, then verify the preview and stream status in Live Control Room before relying on the broadcast being live.

For webcam or mobile streaming, create and start the next broadcast from the relevant YouTube workflow after ending the previous one. The same eligibility and concurrent-stream limits apply.

If the next livestream will not start

  • You see an eligibility or restriction message: check channel verification and livestream restrictions. Waiting briefly will not remove an active restriction; follow the notice shown in YouTube Studio.
  • You appear to have reached a stream limit: check whether another stream is still active on the channel or using the same stream key, and end any broadcast you no longer need.
  • The encoder reports an error: confirm it is sending to the intended event and stream key, and that the previous encoder session has stopped. Recheck the event in Live Control Room.
  • YouTube appears temporarily unavailable: a lack of a published cooldown does not rule out a temporary platform problem. Check the stream status again and retry once the issue clears.

Hand viewers to another broadcast instead

If the goal is to move viewers from one broadcast to a Premiere or another livestream, YouTube Live Redirect can provide that handoff when the current stream ends. It is an audience transition feature, not a way around eligibility rules, strikes, or active-stream limits.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your aim is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos rather than to restart a camera broadcast, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It does not override YouTube’s eligibility rules or stream limits. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
