To make a basic PNGTuber in PngTuber Maker, prepare at least two PNG images showing different expressions, upload them, select a microphone, and adjust the sound threshold until speaking switches the avatar’s image. Then choose whether to export the avatar to your desktop or use the app’s virtual-camera output.
Before you start
- Two or more PNG expression images: YiMeta’s Steam listing gives two different-expression PNGs as the minimum. It does not state required dimensions, resolution, file size, canvas alignment, or transparency settings.
- A microphone: The listing describes using a microphone to detect sound and configure the speaking effect.
- A compatible Windows PC: The listing specifies 64-bit Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core i5-4570 at 3.20 GHz or equivalent, a GeForce GTX560 or equivalent, and broadband internet. Steam has required Windows 10 or later for its client since January 1, 2024, so Windows 10 or later is the practical minimum for using the current Steam client.
PngTuber Maker is listed on Steam as developed and published by YiMeta, with a release date of January 25, 2023. The listing describes the software as free “for the time being” and says the developer plans to raise the price gradually as it adds content and features. Price and Early Access status can change, so check the current Steam listing before installing.
Make the minimum two-expression avatar
- Prepare two PNGs. Make one image for the avatar at rest and a second with a different expression for when it detects your voice. Keep the character positioned consistently between images so it does not appear to jump when the software switches expressions. The listing does not specify technical image requirements beyond PNG format and different expressions.
- Open PngTuber Maker and upload the images. Add the two expression pictures in the app. YiMeta describes the program as switching between uploaded emotion images in response to surrounding sound.
- Select your microphone. Connect the microphone you intend to use and configure the app’s sound detection. The listing calls for microphone setup but does not document exact interface labels or menu paths.
- Adjust the sound threshold. Speak into the selected microphone and change the threshold until the avatar switches to its speaking expression when you talk. The listing gives no numeric threshold or detailed noise-calibration procedure; set it by testing with your own microphone and room noise.
- Test the result. Speak at a normal level, pause, and speak again. Check that the avatar changes when you speak and returns to its resting image when you stop. If it reacts to background noise or misses your voice, adjust the threshold and test again.
Add expressions and visual details
Two images are the stated minimum, not a limit. YiMeta says additional avatar-state pictures can make the speaking effect more realistic. The listing also names emotion-switch animation, backgrounds, and avatar accessories. Add these only after the basic speaking-and-resting switch works, so it is easier to spot whether a problem comes from sound detection or from the extra visual states.
Choose how to use the avatar
The Steam listing describes two output paths: export the avatar to your desktop or use PngTuber Maker’s virtual camera for a video stream. The listing does not provide an OBS-specific setup sequence or explain the virtual camera’s settings. If you plan to use it in streaming software, select the app’s virtual-camera output there if it is available as a video source, then confirm the avatar is visible before going live.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- The avatar does not change when you speak: Check that the intended microphone is connected and selected, then adjust the sound threshold while speaking into it.
- The avatar changes when you are not speaking: Room noise may be crossing the threshold. Adjust the threshold and test again in the conditions where you plan to use the avatar.
- The avatar appears to shift between expressions: Check that the character is positioned consistently across the PNGs. The listing does not specify an alignment feature or required canvas dimensions.
- You cannot find an OBS-specific instruction: The product listing confirms virtual-camera output but does not document OBS steps. Check the current app interface and your streaming software’s available video sources rather than assuming a particular menu label.
- The software or Steam client will not run: Compare your PC with the listing’s minimum requirements and note Steam’s current Windows 10-or-later client requirement.

What to know about PngTuber Maker’s listing
YiMeta’s Steam description characterizes the app as switching among uploaded PNG expressions in response to detected sound. That is a description from the developer and publisher, not an independent performance evaluation. Review totals and ratings change over time; check the live Steam listing for current information.
