1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo livestream on YouTube, a channel must be verified and have had no livestream restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. The 50-subscriber minimum applies to livestreaming from the YouTube mobile app—not to computer streaming. Mobile streams also require a supported device and livestreaming to be enabled; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Check eligibility for the streaming method you plan to use
YouTube has different setup routes for mobile and computer livestreams. The 50-subscriber condition is specific to mobile livestreaming, so do not treat it as a universal threshold for every channel.
| Streaming method | Subscriber minimum | Other method-specific requirements | Setup route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile app | At least 50 subscribers | Supported phone or tablet; livestreaming enabled | YouTube app: Create, then Live |
| Computer | No minimum is listed in YouTube’s cited general requirements | Use a webcam or an encoder | YouTube’s desktop livestream setup |
Both methods are subject to the general channel requirements: verification and no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s computer and mobile setup guidance is available in its computer livestreaming tips and mobile livestream instructions.
How to check whether your channel can go live
- Choose the method. Decide whether you will stream from the YouTube mobile app or from a computer using a webcam or encoder. Check the mobile subscriber and device requirements only if you intend to use the app.
- Confirm channel verification. YouTube lists verification as a general livestream requirement. If your channel is not verified, complete YouTube’s verification process before trying to start a stream.
- Look for a livestream restriction. Check notices associated with your channel and whether the livestream setup is available in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s general rule is that the channel must not have had a livestream restriction in the past 90 days. Setup screens are practical checks, not a guaranteed account-status report for every possible failure.
- If using mobile, check the additional conditions. The channel needs at least 50 subscribers, livestreaming must be enabled, and the device must meet YouTube’s listed minimum operating-system requirements: Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
- Allow time for first activation. YouTube says enabling livestreaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours before the first stream can start. Its mobile setup flow is to open the YouTube app, tap Create, then tap Live.
- For computer streaming, use the desktop setup flow. Follow YouTube’s desktop getting-started or live setup instructions for a webcam or encoder. The general eligibility guidance cited here does not set a computer-streaming subscriber minimum.
See YouTube’s computer livestreaming guidance, mobile livestream instructions, and getting-started information for the relevant setup details.

Do you need 50 subscribers to livestream on YouTube?
Only if you are livestreaming from the YouTube mobile app: YouTube’s mobile eligibility guidance requires at least 50 subscribers. The general requirements for computer livestreaming do not list a subscriber minimum. A computer stream still needs to meet YouTube’s general channel requirements, including verification and no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days.
Why can’t I go live on YouTube?
The channel is not verified
Verification is a general requirement. Complete verification and then try the setup flow again.

The channel has a recent livestream restriction
YouTube may temporarily or permanently disable livestream access for policy or copyright reasons. Review YouTube’s channel notices and its guidance on avoiding livestream restrictions. If a restriction is active, using another channel to livestream around it is prohibited.
The Go Live option is missing on mobile
Check that the channel has at least 50 subscribers, that livestreaming has been enabled, and that the phone or tablet meets the supported OS requirements. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours. These mobile-specific conditions do not establish that a computer stream is unavailable.

The channel seems eligible, but setup still fails
Recheck the method-specific setup flow and any account notices in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise one universal resolution time or a single eligibility dashboard that explains every account-specific problem. If no restriction or unmet requirement is apparent, use YouTube’s official help and account notices rather than trying to bypass a restriction.
Age and policy rules to keep in mind
YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says a creator must be at least 16 to livestream. It also warns that livestreams featuring 13- to 15-year-olds without a visibly present adult may have live chat disabled and may lead to temporary loss of access to chat or other features. Policy violations and copyright issues can affect livestream access; restrictions may be temporary or permanent. YouTube prohibits using another channel to get around an active livestream restriction. See its livestream restriction guidance.

What channel eligibility does—and does not—mean
Eligibility means YouTube’s channel and method requirements allow you to start a livestream; it does not guarantee that a particular stream will be approved, uninterrupted, or compliant. A phone, webcam, encoder, or other streaming setup cannot remove an account restriction or replace a missing eligibility requirement. If you are planning a pre-recorded, always-on YouTube stream after confirming eligibility, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream running from the cloud rather than requiring your computer to stay on.
