Which should you choose for a nonstop YouTube playlist?
Choose vMix if you have a Windows PC and want a simple queue of videos to repeat without assigning each program a clock time. Choose Wirecast if Mac support is essential or you already use it for production, but verify the exact unattended playback workflow you need before relying on it. The reviewed Wirecast material confirms YouTube integration and media-file support, not the same specific looping behavior documented by vMix.
If your requirement is a schedule such as “play this documentary at 8 p.m., then start another at 9 p.m.,” do not mistake looping for scheduling. vMix explicitly says it does not support time-of-day scheduling for full 24/7 television programming. The reviewed Wirecast sources do not establish whether it offers an equivalent integrated scheduler, so they do not support a definitive scheduling winner.

What vMix’s loop does—and does not—do
PlayList and List playback
vMix describes its PlayList and List features as a way to play videos back to back or loop them when they do not need to play at particular scheduled times. Its List input can load a list as one input and can randomize playback. The support article notes that loading a list this way avoids loading all videos at once, which can use system resources.
No built-in full broadcast clock schedule
vMix’s support answer says it is primarily designed for live-streaming single events and “does not support time of day scheduling.” The article also mentions a third-party vMix Scheduler project, but says it is no longer maintained, may not work with current versions, and is not supported by vMix. Do not treat it as a dependable production solution.

Set up and test the YouTube workflow
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before configuring the production software. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.
- Check rights for every item. Make sure you have the necessary rights for every video, soundtrack, and other material in the playlist, and comply with applicable laws and YouTube’s terms. A playlist that can technically loop is not necessarily cleared to broadcast.
- Build the playback queue. In vMix, use a PlayList or List input for back-to-back playback or looping. If you need clock-based program starts, stop and verify a supported scheduler before choosing a workflow. For Wirecast, confirm the playback and unattended operation behavior in the version and setup you intend to use.
- Connect the YouTube destination. Configure the application’s YouTube output using the channel’s live-stream setup and stream key. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Run a private or unlisted end-to-end test. Test the actual files, computer, encoder settings, YouTube destination, and internet connection together. Confirm that clips advance as expected and that YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream.
- Monitor upload capacity with headroom. YouTube advises having enough outbound bandwidth beyond the stream bitrate. Check stream health during the test rather than assuming a speed-test result alone guarantees a stable broadcast. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and stream-health guidance.
- Verify local recording. If keeping an archive matters, make sure a local recording is actually being written and check that its file grows during the test. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup.
Protect the archive for long broadcasts
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive limitation, not a statement that YouTube necessarily ends every stream at 12 hours. If the documentary stream itself must be preserved, plan a local recording and a process for storing or rotating those files.

Reliability depends on the whole chain
A looping feature is not an uptime guarantee. The official material establishes that vMix can loop media; it does not establish comparative long-run uptime for vMix and Wirecast, and the reviewed Wirecast material does not establish equivalent unattended looping. No comparable multi-day reliability benchmark is available here. Test the exact machine, playlist, network connection, and recovery process under monitoring before depending on either setup for continuous programming.
