OBS YouTube Stream Keeps Reconnecting on an Airtel 5G Hotspot: Troubleshoot Upload Changes

Repeated OBS reconnects on an Airtel 5G hotspot can point to unstable upload, but they do not prove the carrier is at fault. Measure during real streaming conditions, lower bandwidth demand, and compare one change at a time.

If OBS repeatedly disconnects from YouTube while you are using an Airtel 5G hotspot, first check whether your sustained upload capacity can support the stream. A fast download result—or a brief upload-speed peak—does not prove that it can. Record OBS and YouTube’s warnings, lower the stream’s bandwidth demand, then compare one change at a time. This can identify whether upload fluctuations are involved without assuming Airtel is necessarily the cause.

What repeated reconnects can—and cannot—tell you

OBS identifies dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of a network problem between the computer and the remote ingest server. That makes the connection a sensible first place to investigate, but it does not establish that Airtel is at fault. The problem could be changing mobile upload capacity, the route to YouTube’s ingest server, or a computer-side setting.

Airtel’s published hotspot guidance addresses hotspot connection problems generally; it does not give an OBS setting, diagnose an individual subscriber’s connection, or establish a universal Airtel 5G upload speed. Your location, time of day, devices, and actual connection conditions matter. There is no single Airtel upload figure that can determine the right OBS bitrate for every user.

Capture evidence before changing settings

Gather observations from the same times that the reconnects occur. A single speed test is only a snapshot, so repeat upload tests during the streaming window and note the conditions.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Write down the date, time, and location of each test and stream attempt.
  • In OBS, open View > Stats. Record the output bitrate, dropped frames, and when disconnects or reconnects occur. Save the OBS log after a test.
  • In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, note stream-health messages and their timestamps.
  • Check whether the phone’s hotspot itself disconnects, or whether the phone remains connected while OBS loses its stream connection.
  • Run repeated upload tests under representative conditions, including during the period when you normally stream. Record results rather than relying on the best reading.

YouTube recommends testing with a representative stream and monitoring stream health. Matching the OBS events, YouTube messages, and upload tests by time makes the comparison more useful.

Lower the stream’s bandwidth demand

Choose a bitrate from sustained upload, not a peak

YouTube advises keeping total stream bitrate within the available upload bandwidth and leaving spare capacity; its guidance recommends 20% headroom. OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point. These are guides, not guarantees for a mobile connection whose capacity changes: use upload capacity that holds up under representative conditions, not a momentary maximum.

For example, if an upload test briefly reports a high result but repeated tests during the streaming period are lower or inconsistent, do not set OBS from the brief peak. Lower the output bitrate and test again. The stream’s total bitrate must fit the connection; reserve capacity for normal network variation and other traffic.

Use YouTube’s encoder figures as guardrails

YouTube’s current live encoder guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its H.264 figures include the following minimum and recommended bitrates:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
H.264 output Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

These are YouTube’s encoding recommendations, not evidence that your hotspot can sustain them. YouTube lists different ranges for AV1 and H.265; consult the figures for the codec actually selected rather than applying the H.264 values to every encoder. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Those encoder settings do not stabilize a changing mobile connection.

Reduce quality if the connection cannot hold the target

If your connection cannot sustain a bitrate appropriate for the selected output, reduce the bitrate first. If reconnects or dropped frames continue, reduce resolution or frame rate and test again. A lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate stream can need less bandwidth, though the resulting picture may be less detailed or smooth. Choose the highest setting that remains stable in a test representative of your real stream—not the most ambitious setting supported only by a peak reading.

Test dynamic bitrate as a fallback

OBS includes the option Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion. When congestion prevents the connection from keeping up, this option can lower bitrate so OBS may continue transmitting at reduced quality. It does not fix unstable radio conditions, network congestion, or carrier routing; picture quality can fall while the setting is active.

Use it as a fallback to reduce interruptions, not as proof that the underlying connection is healthy. Compare the same evidence before and after enabling it: reconnect frequency, OBS dropped frames, YouTube stream health, and visible image quality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Isolate the source by changing one factor at a time

  1. Repeat the same stream test. Keep the content and OBS output settings consistent, and record the same OBS and YouTube indicators each time.
  2. Try another YouTube ingest server, if available. If the result changes, that is useful evidence about the route or ingest path; it is not a guaranteed fix.
  3. Compare another internet connection, if available. A stable result on another connection while the Airtel hotspot test fails points toward the hotspot path, but does not by itself identify the precise cause.
  4. Compare another streaming service, if practical. This can help determine whether the symptom is specific to the YouTube path or also occurs elsewhere. It is a diagnostic comparison, not a remedy.

Change only one factor between tests and retain the timestamps and logs. Changing the network, bitrate, ingest server, and OBS settings all at once makes the result difficult to interpret.

Check OBS and the computer’s network path

  • Update OBS, then review the log from the affected session.
  • Temporarily check whether a VPN, firewall or security program, network-prioritization utility, or “optimizer” is affecting the connection. Make controlled changes and restore protections or settings after testing.
  • In OBS, check Settings > Advanced > Network and confirm Bind to IP is set to Default.
  • OBS suggests testing IPv4 only if connection trouble persists. Treat that as a temporary comparison: if it makes no difference, restore IPv4/IPv6 rather than leaving a change without evidence of benefit.
  • OBS’s network optimizations and TCP pacing options apply to Windows. Do not assume those settings are available or relevant on other operating systems.

A wired connection is generally worth comparing with Wi-Fi when possible, since Wi-Fi can be unstable. A USB tether from phone to computer may be another test only if both devices support it; OBS’s wired-networking guidance does not specifically validate USB tethering or promise that it will improve an Airtel 5G connection. A cable does not improve the phone’s mobile signal.

When to contact Airtel or YouTube

Contact Airtel if repeated tests and stream attempts show unstable outbound connectivity on the hotspot. Provide the location and dates/times, upload-test results, OBS bitrate, OBS log, and YouTube stream-health messages. Those details are more useful than reporting only that the download speed is fast. YouTube also advises contacting the internet provider when connection tests show a problem.

If OBS shows no corresponding network drops but YouTube reports an encoder or stream-health issue, use the specific message and OBS log to investigate that path instead. The device models, location, timings, repeated upload measurements, OBS log, and YouTube messages are needed to narrow down a particular case; the symptom alone cannot identify its cause.

Or let it run in the cloud

This is an alternative only if your YouTube channel is meant to play uploaded, prerecorded video as a live stream. StreamNeo does not go live from an OBS camera production and does not replace this troubleshooting when you need a live camera, microphone, or real-time scene.

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.

Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or offer quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start the free first day.

For prerecorded streams, confirm you have the rights to the video and music and consider YouTube’s copyright and reused-content rules. Uploading content does not make it yours to broadcast.
