You can keep recorded lessons playing in a YouTube livestream with a Windows mini PC and OBS Studio: add a lesson file as a looping media source, connect OBS to a YouTube stream with its stream URL and key, then leave the PC and network running. This is a do-it-yourself setup, not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime. What you need before you start
- A Windows mini PC running Windows 10 or 11 with a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU. These are OBS’s baseline Windows requirements, not a guarantee that the PC can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate. OBS says actual capability depends on the system and workload. OBS system requirements
- OBS Studio and the lesson video files stored locally on the PC.
- A sustained internet upload connection that can carry the chosen video and audio bitrate. A wired Ethernet connection is a practical option where available, but it does not guarantee reliability.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Permission to stream the lesson recordings and any included music, images, or other materials. Having a recording does not necessarily mean you hold the rights to broadcast every part of it.
Choose a mini PC for the work you intend to do rather than relying on a minimum-spec label. OBS notes that meeting its system requirements does not guarantee the computer can stream or record a particular workload. Resolution, frame rate, encoder choice, and scene complexity all affect the load.
Set up the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. Create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room.
- In the stream settings, locate the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Use RTMPS when configuring the encoder if it is available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP.

Make OBS play one lesson or a rotating playlist
Loop one video file
- Open OBS and choose or create the scene you want to use.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.
- Name the source, then select the local lesson video file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties so OBS starts the file again when it reaches the end.
- Check the preview and audio meters. If the video is cropped or positioned badly, adjust its fit and placement in the scene before going live.

Loop several lesson files in sequence
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; with 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies that 64-bit VLC is required.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source.
- Add the lesson files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist so OBS returns to the start of the list after the last file ends.
- Preview the transitions and listen for gaps, silence, or unexpected audio levels before streaming.

Connect OBS and choose streaming settings
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter or connect the stream credentials. If using a custom configuration, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room.
- Open Settings → Output and select an encoder supported by the mini PC. OBS’s documentation does not establish a universal CPU, RAM, or encoder setting for every mini PC, so use a setting your hardware can sustain in a representative test.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate in Settings → Video. For lesson content, choose a resolution that suits the source and PC; higher settings increase encoding and upload demands.
- Set bitrate with the source format and target resolution/frame rate in mind. YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps video bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are ingest recommendations, not proof that your PC or connection can sustain them. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance before committing to a configuration.
- Use a keyframe interval of 2 seconds if your encoder settings expose that control, and confirm the current YouTube guidance for your selected codec. Do not raise bitrate or resolution until a test shows the PC and upload connection can hold the stream steadily.
Start with a test using the actual lesson files, including their busiest motion and loudest audio. Watch OBS’s performance indicators and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages rather than judging only from a static opening slide.

Go live and check the feed
- Start streaming in OBS.
- Open the YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview. Confirm that the correct lesson is visible and that audio is present.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health status and OBS for dropped frames or encoding overload. If the feed is unstable, lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again.
- Once the stream is healthy, leave OBS, the mini PC, lesson files, and network connection running for the intended schedule. Prevent sleep or automatic shutdown in Windows power settings, and ensure updates or scheduled restarts will not interrupt the stream.
Plan around interruptions and YouTube archives
A mini PC setup depends on the computer, OBS, local media, and internet connection remaining operational. Test what happens after a brief network loss or OBS restart before relying on the setup for a long schedule; do not assume that every interruption will recover automatically.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single continuous stream longer than 12 hours will produce a complete archive. If keeping a replay matters, plan separate broadcasts within that limit or make and retain an independent recording.

Always-on programming also raises rights and channel-policy questions. Confirm that you can broadcast every lesson, soundtrack, illustration, and excerpt, and review YouTube’s rules for copyright and reused content. Encoder setup alone cannot establish that a channel or recording complies.
What to do when the stream fails

Local mini PC or cloud streaming?
A mini PC with OBS gives you direct control of local files and playlist configuration, but it requires the computer and connection to remain in service. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists cloud services intended for 24/7 prerecorded streams; compare each provider’s current features, pricing, availability, and terms directly because they are not established here.
