This broadcasts the recording as a live stream; it is different from a viewer pressing YouTube’s repeat control. The workflow is the same for Indian channels as elsewhere, but eligibility and rights still need to be checked for your channel.
Before you start: check channel access and the lecture
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. Eligibility is account-specific, so confirm it in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before preparing a broadcast. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a separate India-only looping workflow. YouTube live-streaming eligibility
- Confirm rights to everything in the recording. This includes the lecture, slides, music, and other audio or video. Having a copy of a recording does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.
- Use a computer that can play and encode the file. OBS Studio supports Media Sources on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The cited platform guidance does not require expensive equipment for a local-file stream.
How to loop one recorded lecture with OBS
1. Add the lecture as a looping media source
- Open OBS Studio and create or select a scene for the lecture.
- Under Sources, select + → Media Source.
- Choose the local video file and enable Loop. OBS repeats the file after playback completes. Test the end-to-start transition: OBS documents the repeat control, but does not promise a seamless visual or audio join for every file and setup. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Check that the source is visible in the preview and that its audio is audible on the OBS meters. Play through the ending and restart point before scheduling a public broadcast.
2. Loop a playlist of lectures instead
For multiple videos, add a VLC Video source and configure a playlist with Loop Playlist enabled. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source to appear. Check the order and playback of every playlist item before going live; a playlist is useful for a sequence of classes, while a single Media Source is simpler for repeating one lecture. OBS Project: Media Sources
3. Create the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab for a stream or schedule an event from Manage.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube if available, and enter or connect the event details as prompted. The key tells YouTube where the encoder feed is going and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- In OBS, start streaming. Wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room, then check the picture, sound, title, and privacy setting. When ready, click Go live in YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder ahead of time, previewing the stream, checking watch-page access, and monitoring stream quality. A private or unlisted test can help catch setup issues before a public class stream.
Set stream quality and protect the connection
For a local-file broadcast, the file plays through the computer and OBS encodes the outgoing feed. Use a resolution and frame rate OBS can sustain while leaving sufficient upload capacity for the resulting bitrate; YouTube’s guidance does not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting for every lecture file, computer, and connection. Follow the current encoder guidance in YouTube Studio for the chosen output rather than assuming one setting fits all streams.
- YouTube recommends that the total streaming bitrate fit within available outbound bandwidth, with about 20% headroom as a connection buffer. Run an upload-speed test under realistic conditions and monitor Live Control Room’s stream health. YouTube Help: Streaming tips
- YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. Select the YouTube-provided connection option in the encoder when available.
- If the stream becomes unstable, reduce the encoder’s output demands or improve the connection, then verify stream health before relying on a long broadcast.
Copyright, monetization, and viewer expectations
Live copyright checks can interrupt a recording
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies content, the live stream may show a placeholder, be interrupted, or be terminated if the content remains. An archived live stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. Even a licence does not guarantee uninterrupted live playback if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

Permission and monetization are different questions
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy says monetized content should be original and authentic, not repetitive or mass-produced; review can apply to the channel as a whole. Reused-content rules are separate from copyright, permission, and fair use. Owning a recording or having permission to use it therefore does not by itself guarantee monetization eligibility. Tell viewers what they are watching
Make the subject, instructor, and the fact that this is a repeated recorded lecture clear in the title and description. If viewers may expect live teaching or questions, explain the format and provide a way to find related classes or schedules. This is a viewer-trust recommendation, not a YouTube requirement.

End the stream and plan for archiving
When the session is finished, end the event in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on a longer loop being archived in full; shorten the session or verify YouTube’s current handling before depending on an archive. Troubleshooting common problems
- Go Live is unavailable: check channel verification and whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction within the preceding 90 days; confirm eligibility in Live Control Room.
- YouTube receives no feed: confirm OBS is streaming, the correct event is selected, and the stream URL and key match. Reset an exposed key and update the encoder.
- Video plays once instead of repeating: reopen the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- Stream health is poor or the feed drops: compare the encoder’s total bitrate with available upload bandwidth, preserve YouTube’s recommended headroom, and check the connection and Live Control Room health indicators.
- Black screen, missing audio, or a rough loop restart: check the source selection, file playback, OBS audio meters, and the actual transition in a test stream. The documented loop setting does not guarantee a seamless boundary.
- Copyright warning or interruption: identify the flagged material and confirm you have the necessary rights and any required Content ID allowlisting. Permission alone may not prevent an interruption.
