To run prerecorded lo-fi animation clips as a 24/7 YouTube Live stream in OBS, use a looping Media Source for one clip or a VLC Video Source playlist for several. Set the encoder to YouTube’s recommendations for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec; test the scene and monitor the broadcast. Plan your archive separately: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose how OBS plays the clips
OBS offers two relevant playback arrangements. Neither should be assumed to provide gapless transitions or scheduling beyond the playback behavior documented for the source.
One clip: Media Source with Loop enabled
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene containing your animation.
- In the source properties, select the video file and enable Loop.
- Preview the source through the end of the file and confirm that it starts again as expected.
OBS documents the Media Source and its loop option in its Media Sources guide.
Several clips: VLC Video Source playlist
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS; OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video Source.
- Add a VLC Video Source to your scene and configure its playlist with the intended files.
- Preview the playlist through a full cycle, paying attention to playback, audio, and what happens between clips.
See OBS’s Media Sources guide for source details. Validate transitions in your own setup rather than assuming the playlist is seamless.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings
Choose a resolution and frame rate that suit the source and that your computer and sustained upload connection can support. YouTube recommends testing the upload connection and choosing reliable quality; it also transcodes live streams for viewers. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates and listed minimums, not a guarantee of stable delivery.
| Output | Recommended H.264 bitrate | YouTube minimum |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 2 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These recommendations are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance. Consult its full table for other codecs, resolutions, and frame rates rather than applying one bitrate to every output.

Use the source motion to choose 30 or 60 fps
Thirty fps is a reasonable starting point if it matches the source and the visual result you want; YouTube does not prescribe a frame rate for lo-fi animation specifically. Compare 720p30 with 1080p30 if bandwidth or encoding headroom is a concern. Consider 60 fps only when the source’s movement benefits from it and your setup can sustain the higher recommended bitrate. Test representative scenes: a mostly static image and a scene with moving particles can compress differently. This is a practical reason to test, not a measured performance claim.
Set rate control, keyframes, audio, and color
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: 2-second frequency recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS; RTMPS is recommended. Match the bitrate to the chosen codec using YouTube’s table.
- Typical stereo SDR audio: AAC or MP3, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo.
- Color for SDR: Rec. 709, 8-bit.
Use the complete current YouTube encoder settings table for the selected codec and output. A bitrate that matches the recommendation can still fail if the connection, encoder, or computer is unstable.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live safely
- Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions from the prior 90 days. YouTube lists these as requirements in Get started with live streaming.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or prepare the live stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the key or connect using the available YouTube workflow. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in screenshots or publish it.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the broadcast public or relying on it.
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream in advance, testing with similar audio and movement, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video quality. Its encoder guidance also recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate. See encoder settings and YouTube live streaming tips.
Plan the 24/7 run and its archive separately
A stream that stays live for 24 hours is not the same as a reliable replay archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be archived automatically; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete replay matters, plan shorter broadcast sessions or a separate local recording and rotation workflow, then verify the resulting files. Splitting sessions does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted viewing or successful recordings.

YouTube also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Review its current guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams before choosing whether a single continuous broadcast or replay completeness matters more.
Protect a local recording
If you record locally, check that the file exists, continues to grow during the run, and can be played back after recording. A local archive is a separate workload from sending the live stream; validate it during a representative extended test rather than assuming OBS or YouTube has preserved the full broadcast.

Test for interruptions before relying on the setup
- Run the full playlist cycle and check that every clip and audio track plays as intended.
- Test a representative extended broadcast while watching OBS and YouTube stream health.
- Check the computer, media files, and network as possible interruption points; have a plan to restart the encoder and confirm the YouTube preview returns.
- Monitor audio and video quality continuously when the stream is operating.
There is no universal OBS preset or published uptime guarantee for a particular computer, playlist, and connection. YouTube’s advice is to test and monitor; your setup’s behavior must be validated on the system you will use.
