You can configure a Windows PC to launch OBS and attempt to resume sending a pre-recorded feed after a reboot, but a startup shortcut alone cannot guarantee the YouTube event will resume. You need to configure both OBS and the specific YouTube broadcast, account for the possibility that the network is not ready when the PC starts, and test the event’s behavior with a private or unlisted stream.
What needs to happen after a reboot
There are two separate jobs: Windows must start the encoder and OBS must connect to YouTube; YouTube must also be configured to accept the encoder feed and, where appropriate, start the event. If either side is not ready, the stream may not resume as expected. A power interruption adds another complication: the computer or OBS can start before the router or internet connection is available.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key, then a preview in Live Control Room before the operator goes live. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance for the specific event: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Configure YouTube to start from the encoder
Check the event’s Auto-start setting
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select or create the scheduled encoder stream you intend to use. Open that stream’s settings and check Auto-start. YouTube says that when Auto-start and Auto-stop are on, you can start or stop streaming from the encoder. These settings apply to the broadcast; they do not configure Windows or prove that a reboot will continue the same event. See Manage live stream settings.

Confirm the stream URL and key in OBS
Use the stream URL and key associated with the intended YouTube event in OBS’s streaming configuration. If you rotate or replace the key, update OBS as well. Before relying on automation, connect manually once and confirm that YouTube receives the feed and displays its preview. Confirm that OBS opens and streams successfully when you launch it normally, and note the installed OBS version and the account that runs it.

Create or use an OBS shortcut, then add the launch argument
--startstreamingto its Target field after the executable path. A Windows shortcut’s target should retain the executable path in quotes, with the argument outside the closing quote. -
Open the Windows Startup folder for the account that will run OBS by pressing
Win+R, enteringshell:startup, and pressing Enter. Place the shortcut there to launch OBS when that user signs in.The Tool Desk

Sign in after a controlled reboot and verify that OBS opens, starts streaming, and reaches YouTube. This shortcut method is community guidance reported in the OBS Project forum, not a guarantee or an official current OBS instruction. Confirm the launch argument works with your installed version: OBS Project forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.
The Startup folder runs when its user signs in; it is not, by itself, proof that OBS will operate unattended before sign-in. If your setup requires a logged-out PC or recovery after a later outage, investigate Windows Task Scheduler or a script suited to your account and security configuration. The cited community discussion mentions Task Scheduler, but does not establish a universal configuration.
Allow for network startup delay
A one-shot startup can fail if OBS attempts to connect before the router or internet connection is ready. Add a startup delay, or use a task or script that waits for network access and retries or restarts OBS. OBS’s reconnect behavior may help after a connection drops, but the forum discussion cautions that it may not help when the initial connection fails. Treat these approaches as setup options to test, not guaranteed recovery mechanisms: OBS Project forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.
Test the reboot and check YouTube ingest

Use a private or unlisted test event rather than depending on an important public broadcast for the first test.

Reboot the PC under the conditions you expect in practice, including the normal sign-in arrangement, then allow time for the router and internet connection to come up.

Check that OBS is running and sending video, then look for the preview or stream status in YouTube Live Control Room. Do not assume that an open OBS window means YouTube is receiving the feed.

If you use the YouTube Live Streaming API, Google defines a stream status of
activeas YouTube servers receiving data from the encoder: Life of a Broadcast. -
Record what happened to the event and its replay. YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that archive rule does not establish that a reboot will resume the same event or preserve a single replay. The actual continuity outcome should be verified with your event configuration: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Common restart failures and fixes
