If YouTube receives your video but reports no audio, trace the signal from its source through OBS to the encoded stream. Start with the OBS audio meter: if it does not move while sound is playing, the signal is not reaching OBS at that point. If it moves, check mute state, stream routing and track inclusion, then inspect the encoder output and YouTube Live Control Room for the specific error.
1. Does the audio source reach OBS?
Play the sound that should be in your stream and watch the corresponding channel in OBS’s Audio Mixer. Check the meter for the actual source—such as a microphone, desktop audio, or application capture—not just any mixer channel. OBS documents the meter as an indicator of incoming level; a missing indicator means audio is not reaching OBS at that point. An idle source may show no activity until it produces sound.
- Confirm the intended source exists in the scene and is using the correct input or playback device.
- Check the device connection and its physical or application-level mute and volume controls.
- Inspect source filters for settings that may suppress the signal.
- Make sure the expected sound is actually playing while you check. A silent application or inactive microphone cannot produce meter movement.
Do not replace a microphone or interface just because YouTube reports silence. First establish whether the sound reaches OBS; a fault before that point calls for a source, device, connection, mute, volume, or filter check.
2. If the OBS meter moves, is that audio included in the stream?
Meter movement shows that audio is reaching that OBS mixer channel, but it does not prove that the channel is audible in the outgoing stream. Check that the source is not muted and that its routing includes the stream mix or audio track you intend to send. If your setup uses multiple tracks, verify which track is selected for the live output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use OBS monitoring to listen to the sound after it reaches OBS. Monitoring helps locate problems in the signal path, but hearing audio in your headphones is not proof that the encoded stream includes it. Where practical, make a local recording or inspect the encoder output as a separate check. OBS recommends listening both early in the signal path and again after the signal reaches OBS; YouTube also recommends checking encoder output and a local archive.
3. What does YouTube Live Control Room report?
Check the stream-specific message in YouTube’s Live Dashboard or Live Control Room. YouTube uses these tools to check the stream it receives, and its documented errors distinguish missing audio from problems with the audio format or stream configuration.

| YouTube message or condition | What it points to | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| “Your encoder is sending no audio” | Audio is absent from the stream being sent to YouTube. | Check OBS routing and stream-track inclusion, then confirm the encoder output contains audio. |
| The ingestion stream has no audio stream | YouTube is not receiving an audio stream in the ingest. | Check the encoder’s audio output and whether the intended audio is included. |
| Multiple audio streams | The incoming stream contains an audio-stream configuration YouTube identifies as an ingestion problem. | Review the encoder configuration and send the intended audio stream. |
| Unsupported audio codec or incorrect audio settings | The audio format or settings being sent may not match YouTube’s guidance. | Check the configured codec, bitrate, and sample rate against YouTube’s encoder settings. |
The error displayed for your particular stream is more useful than assuming every “no audio” report has the same cause. YouTube’s Live streaming error messages describe the platform’s audio-related alerts.
4. Check OBS’s outgoing audio settings
YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 for audio. For stereo audio, it recommends 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. These are YouTube recommendations, not proof that a different setting is the cause of a silent stream; use the Live Control Room error and your encoder output to guide the diagnosis.

- Confirm OBS is configured to send audio and that the intended source is included in the live stream’s audio mix or track.
- Check the configured audio codec. YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- For stereo, compare the encoder’s settings with YouTube’s recommendations of 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz.
- If the configuration includes multiple audio streams, check YouTube’s warning and simplify the output to the intended stream where appropriate.
See YouTube’s encoder settings for its published format recommendations. OBS labels and controls can vary by version and configuration; the evidence available here does not identify a particular operating system, OBS version, source type, or track layout, so check the controls in your own setup rather than relying on an assumed menu path.
5. Test the full path before and during a stream
- Reproduce the real sound. Play or speak into the source you plan to use and confirm that its OBS meter responds.
- Listen within OBS. Check the source at the beginning of the signal path and again through OBS monitoring, while remembering that monitoring alone does not verify the live output.
- Verify an output. When practical, check a local recording or encoder output to establish whether audio survives OBS’s routing and encoding.
- Check the YouTube preview. Before going live, inspect the Live Control Room preview and its audio status.
- Monitor the event. During the stream, watch audio/video quality and stream health. If encoder output sounds healthy but YouTube playback does not, YouTube advises checking the outbound connection and reviewing encoder errors and CPU load.
Use a test that includes audio and video activity similar to the planned stream. A test with no speaking, music, or other expected sound cannot establish whether the audio path works.

6. Troubleshoot by the last point where audio is confirmed
| Last confirmed point | Likely area to investigate | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No signal on the relevant OBS meter | Before or at the OBS source | Check the selected device, connection, physical or application mute, volume, source presence, filters, and whether sound is playing. |
| OBS meter moves, but monitoring is silent | Within OBS’s source or monitoring path | Check source mute and filters, then confirm you are monitoring the intended channel. |
| OBS monitoring works, but local recording or encoder output is silent | OBS output routing, mix, track, or encoder configuration | Check that the source is assigned to the outgoing stream mix or track and that OBS is configured to send the intended audio. |
| Encoder output contains audio, but YouTube reports none | Stream ingest, track selection, or YouTube’s reported format issue | Read the exact Live Control Room error, check the outgoing audio stream and settings, and review encoder errors and outbound connection. |
| Audio appears intermittently or only after the stream starts | Source activity or an unstable connection or output path | Repeat a representative test while watching OBS meters, encoder output, and stream health to identify where the signal stops. |
Headphones can help you listen to the source or OBS monitoring if you do not already have a suitable way to listen. They do not fix a muted source, missing stream track, or incorrect encoder setting.
Or let it run in the cloud

It loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with no re-encode or quality tiers; it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Start your free first day.
