Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To stream a pre-recorded coding tutorial as a YouTube Live event, send the video through an encoder connected to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule the stream, copy its stream URL and key into the encoder, set video and audio output to match your source and connection, then check the preview before starting the event. You do not need to upload the file as an ordinary YouTube video first.
Before you set up the stream
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Its general setup guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before planning a scheduled broadcast: YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Prepare the tutorial file and connection
Choose the finished video you want viewers to see and confirm that the encoder can play its format. Use an internet connection with dependable upload capacity; the outgoing stream must be sustained for the whole broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the complete setup before going live rather than treating a nominal bitrate recommendation as a guarantee for your connection.
Create or schedule the YouTube Live event
-
In YouTube Studio, select Go Live. Create a stream, or open the Manage tab and schedule one. Scheduling gives you an event page that you can promote and lets viewers set reminders; scheduled stream settings can be edited.

Enter the event title and description, choose the appropriate category or stream type, and complete the audience details that apply. Set visibility to public, private, or unlisted according to your plan. A scheduled stream may be surfaced to subscribers as upcoming, but tags have limited discovery value except for commonly misspelled content; do not rely on tags to attract viewers.
-
In the Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key. Copy both into the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP destination settings. Treat the key as a secret: YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s “password and address.” If someone else obtains it, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.

Configure the encoder for a coding tutorial
Send the prerecorded file as the video input
Select the tutorial file as the encoder’s playback or media input, not a camera input. The encoder sends that video to the YouTube event through the URL and key you copied. Check that the file’s picture and audio play correctly in the encoder before sending it live. The YouTube workflow is an encoder stream tied to a created or scheduled event; it does not require an ordinary video upload as the live source.

Choose protocol, codec, and bitrate
- Protocol: Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP.
- Video codec and bitrate: YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264 and recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps or 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are recommendations, not universal settings: match the source frame rate and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain.
- Rate control and keyframes: For H.264 with RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists CBR and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, with an interval no longer than 4 seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 support. Confirm that the encoder is sending the tutorial’s intended audio track and that its levels are audible without distortion.
YouTube transcodes a live feed for viewers, so your encoder’s output is not the only playback format they may receive. For the current protocol and encoder settings, see YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Pick latency and DVR deliberately
For a prerecorded tutorial with little or no audience interaction, lower latency is usually less important. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering and that it matters less when the streamer is not interacting with viewers. DVR is a separate option: it lets viewers pause and rewind during the live event. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours; its encoder setup help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. See YouTube’s encoder setup help and live stream settings.

When ready, select Go live in YouTube Studio for the scheduled event. Monitor the stream while it runs and end the event in YouTube Studio when playback is finished; stop the encoder as appropriate.
YouTube advises setting up encoders in advance, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video quality. Its steps are described in YouTube’s live streaming tips.
Do you need dedicated hardware?
No dedicated encoder is established as necessary for the ordinary computer-based workflow: a software encoder can send the prerecorded tutorial to the scheduled event. For a standalone hardware option, YouTube names the AJA HELO Plus. The product listing describes it as an H.264 encoder and says optional AJA PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media and stream directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That is a specialized playback path, not a requirement for a coding tutorial. Current price and availability are not established here.
Common problems and fixes
- No preview appears: Check that the encoder is sending to the URL and key for the correct event, that output is running, and that the event is open in Live Control Room. If the key may be wrong or exposed, reset it in Studio and replace it in the encoder.
- The stream buffers or drops frames: The connection may not sustain the selected bitrate. Test the upload path and lower the bitrate or output frame rate if necessary while preserving a setting appropriate to the source.
- Viewers hear no audio or hear the wrong track: Verify the encoder’s selected audio input or media track and confirm that its output format is supported, such as AAC or MP3.
- The picture looks wrong or playback fails: Confirm the encoder supports the tutorial file’s format and that it is playing the intended file. Test the full playback path in preview before the event.
- The event starts at the wrong time or remains private: Recheck the scheduled event, visibility, and start action in Live Control Room before sending the audience to the event page.
- Rewind is unavailable: Check whether DVR is enabled and whether the stream exceeds 12 hours, when YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable.
Copyright and audience expectations
Using an encoder does not change the responsibilities attached to the content. Only stream code, music, voiceover, and other material you have the rights or permission to use. Choose the audience setting and event visibility accurately, and make clear to viewers that the tutorial is prerecorded if that context matters to them. YouTube’s stream setup settings do not establish that prerecorded content is automatically exempt from copyright or other platform rules.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded tutorial looping as a YouTube stream without leaving a computer or home connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly plan is $9.99 per month. For India, UPI works; cards are accepted in India and worldwide. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial registration.
