For one prerecorded 1080p30 YouTube stream, Amazon Lightsail’s $7/month Linux plan is the most defensible low-cost starting point in the available plan and bandwidth evidence: it includes 1 GB memory, 40 GB SSD storage and 2 TB of transfer. The $5/month plan includes only 1 TB, which is too tight for a continuous 5 Mbps stream that uses about 1.62 TB over 30 days before overhead. These figures do not establish which VPS region routes best from India, or guarantee uninterrupted streaming; test your actual setup before relying on it.
If you prefer not to maintain a server, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it keeps a prerecorded YouTube stream running from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
Why Lightsail’s $7 plan is the starting point
A continuous stream’s outbound transfer depends on its bitrate and how long it runs. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. At that rate, 30 days of uninterrupted streaming sends about 1.62 TB in decimal units, before protocol overhead, restarts, updates or other traffic. That makes a 1 TB allowance a poor fit and leaves moderate headroom on a 2 TB allowance.
AWS lists the Lightsail Linux bundles below on its pricing page (accessed in 2026). Verify current rates, transfer terms and regional availability before purchase.

Estimate bandwidth for your resolution and bitrate
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 and 3 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30. Applying those rates to 30 uninterrupted days gives the following approximate outbound volumes:

| H.264 recommendation | Calculated transfer in 30 days | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 at 5 Mbps | About 1.62 TB | 1 TB is insufficient for the stream alone; 2 TB leaves moderate headroom. |
| 720p30 at 3 Mbps | About 0.97 TB | Nearly consumes a 1 TB allowance before overhead or other traffic. |
The volumes are calculations using the stated bitrates and 2,592,000 seconds in 30 days, not transfer figures published by YouTube. Allowance definitions and billing for any overage should be checked with the VPS provider. If you stream at another bitrate, calculate using bitrate × seconds ÷ 8, then leave room for overhead and non-stream traffic.

Compatible prerecorded file: avoid unnecessary transcoding
If your recording already matches the stream settings you intend to use, a playback process that sends it without re-encoding may require less CPU than real-time transcoding. But neither a small instance’s ability to host a process nor its memory figure proves it can handle your particular media workflow. Test the actual file, audio, playback software and sustained stream on the intended instance.

Transcoding: size for the real workload
Changing resolution, codec or bitrate through re-encoding adds CPU demand. Do not assume a low-cost instance will transcode reliably just because it can relay a compatible file. The available comparison evidence does not establish a minimum CPU specification for transcoding; measure the workload you plan to run before committing to 24/7 use.
How the provider options compare
Price alone is not enough: compare transfer allowance against the stream’s calculated volume, and check the full charge, including taxes, IPv4 and possible overage. The figures below are not equally current or comprehensive.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 as supported video codecs, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends keyframes every 2 seconds without exceeding 4 seconds. The specific bitrate figures above are YouTube recommendations for H.264 at the stated resolutions and frame rates; they are not VPS minimum specifications.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Choose a representative source and target. Decide whether you will relay a compatible prerecorded file or transcode it. Select the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you actually need, then calculate the 30-day transfer volume.
- Set up the YouTube live stream. Create or configure the YouTube live event in your channel’s live-control workflow and use its stream URL and stream key in your encoder or playback software. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. The precise current YouTube interface labels can change.
- Use supported encoder settings. Select RTMPS where your software supports it; configure CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, keeping it at or below 4 seconds. Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the resolution and frame rate rather than treating a VPS plan as an encoder preset.
- Test from the intended VPS region. Send the actual video and audio, check YouTube’s stream-health messages, and observe whether the connection remains stable. The available sources do not identify a best region or establish India-to-YouTube ingest performance for any provider.
- Plan for process failure. Configure the server to restart the playback or encoder process after a crash, and monitor for disconnections. A VPS price and bandwidth allowance do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Using a VPS to keep a stream online does not grant rights to the recording, soundtrack or other material in it. Before streaming, confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions for all content, including music and images. YouTube’s live-stream health tools can reveal technical problems, but a healthy connection does not resolve copyright or channel-policy issues. Consider both content rights and YouTube’s rules for your channel and live streams before scheduling continuous playback.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a managed alternative for prerecorded YouTube video: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing needs to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
Common problems and what to check
- The transfer allowance runs out. Compare the continuous bitrate calculation with the provider’s monthly allowance, and include overhead and other traffic. A 5 Mbps stream needs about 1.62 TB in 30 days before those additions.
- The stream disconnects or YouTube reports poor health. Test from the selected region, review YouTube’s stream-health messages and check the server’s outbound connection. Configure process restart and monitoring; no cited plan promises uninterrupted service.
- The VPS struggles during playback. Determine whether your setup is re-encoding. Test a compatible file without transcoding if that meets your needs, or validate CPU capacity against the actual encoding workload.
- The stream key stops working or the wrong feed appears. Confirm that the encoder uses the current key and ingest URL for the intended live event. Keep the key private and replace it if exposed.
Costs and checks before you commit
The Lightsail recommendation is based on the listed monthly plan price and transfer allowance, not a complete estimate of every billable item. Check current regional availability, taxes, transfer accounting and overage charges with the provider. Compare the server’s storage with your recording size, and consider logs and any other files that must remain on the instance. For routes from India, run a sustained test from the actual region you plan to use: the available evidence does not establish a fastest or most reliable route.
