You can stream a crackling campfire on YouTube using a webcam for a real live scene or an encoder to combine a fire visual with audio. A genuinely unattended 24/7 stream needs more than a successful launch: the computer, encoder, network connection and power must keep working, and YouTube can interrupt a stream over detected third-party content. The available platform guidance does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 setup, exact encoder settings or a failover method.
Choose what viewers will see
Start by deciding whether the stream will show a real fire as it happens or play prepared media. YouTube supports both webcam and encoder streaming; neither route is a universal requirement.

A webcam is not necessary for an animated scene or prerecorded fire footage. If you use prepared footage and sound, make sure you have rights for both the live broadcast and any recording you publish afterward.
Prepare the channel and the fire material
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. The stream must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Choose the visual and audio. Decide whether you will film a real fire, use original prerecorded footage, or use an animation. Select crackling audio you created or have permission to use in a live stream and any archive. A track described as “copyright-free” is not necessarily licensed for these uses; check its actual terms.
- Prepare for a long session. For a real live scene, consider whether it can be filmed safely for an extended period. For an encoder-based stream, assemble the visual and audio before starting. The available YouTube guidance does not specify what computer, hosting arrangement, network capacity or power setup will reliably sustain this particular 24/7 use case.
Start the stream with a webcam or encoder
- Open YouTube’s live-streaming tools and create or configure a live broadcast. Select the route that matches your material: webcam for a live camera scene, or an encoder for a composed video-and-audio signal.
- For the encoder route, connect it to YouTube using the stream details provided for the broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it, show it on screen or send it to anyone who does not need it. If you think it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live-streaming tools and update the encoder.
- Test before making the broadcast public. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder connections and advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Listen for clean, consistent crackling audio and check that the fire visual behaves as expected. The cited encoder guidance does not settle a bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval or computer specification for this campfire stream, so do not treat a generic setting as a verified requirement.
- Start the broadcast and check YouTube’s live preview or status. Confirm that both picture and sound reach the stream before leaving it unattended. A successful test confirms the test worked; it does not establish that the stream will remain live indefinitely.
Understand copyright and interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If its systems detect a match, YouTube may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Clear rights for the fire video and crackling sound, and ask the rights owner about allowlisting where relevant.

If YouTube interrupts the broadcast, check the live status and any warning, then remove or replace the material that triggered the issue before restarting. Do not assume that relaunching the same unlicensed audio or footage will resolve a claim.
Decide whether to archive the stream
If YouTube’s settings permit it, archiving leaves a recording after the live broadcast ends. YouTube may make Content ID claims on an archived stream after it ends. Archiving also matters for qualified watch hours: in an August 12, 2026 YouTube Official Blog post, Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie said that qualified watch hours come from public long-form videos, including podcasts, or archived livestreams; unarchived livestreams do not count toward those qualified hours. What a 24/7 setup can and cannot promise
A 24/7 stream is not made reliable simply by leaving a broadcast running. Webcam or encoder operation depends on the chosen capture and streaming setup, while YouTube may interrupt a stream for rights issues.
