To stream a prerecorded pranayama lesson as a YouTube Live broadcast from Linux, create a YouTube encoder stream, copy its current RTMPS URL and stream key, then use FFmpeg to read the lesson in real time and loop it. Test the feed in Live Control Room before clicking Go live. The command below is an adaptable starting point, not a verified setup for every file or server.
What you need before starting
- A Linux server with FFmpeg installed and an internet connection that can sustain the stream’s upload bitrate.
- A finished video file whose picture and sound you have the rights to stream. Check that it plays from beginning to end and that its ending-to-opening transition is acceptable for repetition.
- Access to your YouTube channel’s Live Control Room so you can create the event and retrieve its stream URL and key.
YouTube’s published encoder guidance does not specify a special media profile for pranayama lessons. Choose landscape or another format for your intended viewing context; there is no automatic seamless transition just because FFmpeg repeats a file.
Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live. Schedule an event if you want viewers to see it in advance and set a reminder, or create the stream when you are ready. Choose public, private, or unlisted visibility deliberately; available controls and defaults can vary by account.
- In Live Control Room, copy the current stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as functioning like the stream’s password and address, so do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or support request. Reset it in Live Control Room if it is exposed. - For encrypted transport, click the lock icon in the Stream URL field and use the RTMPS URL shown for your account. RTMPS is RTMP over TLS/SSL, and YouTube recommends it. Do not assume an example URL or key from elsewhere matches your event. YouTube: Use an encoder to go live · YouTube: Stream using RTMPS.
Configure FFmpeg to loop the lesson
For a common MP4 containing one video and one audio stream, this illustrative command reads the file at its normal playback pace and loops it. Replace the destination with the RTMPS URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room:

-f flv 'rtmps://<current-server-url>/<stream-key>'This example assumes 720p30 H.264 output: 6 Mbps is YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for that resolution and frame rate, and a 60-frame GOP corresponds to a two-second keyframe interval at 30 fps. It is not a tested command for your file, FFmpeg build, or server. The online FFmpeg documentation cited here does not establish that every installed build supports -stream_loop; check ffmpeg -h full locally before relying on it. Adapt the output to the source and connection
Inspect the file with ffprobe if available, and adjust output resolution, frame rate, audio mapping, and encoding to suit it. The command’s -g 60 and -keyint_min 60 settings only represent two seconds when the output is 30 fps. YouTube recommends supported video codecs H.264, H.265, or AV1; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; up to 60 fps; and a keyframe interval around two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. Its H.264 recommendations include 6 Mbps for 720p30 and 10 Mbps for 1080p30. Select a rate your server can sustain and verify the result in a test. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Optional recovery after a temporary network failure
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer documentation demonstrates an RTMP recovery configuration using -f fifo, -fifo_format flv, recovery enabled, and a one-second recovery wait. This is an advanced, best-effort option—not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback or recovery from every failure. Check ffmpeg -h muxer=fifo on the installed build and test in the actual hosting environment before using it. FFmpeg FIFO muxer documentation.

Test the feed, then start the broadcast
- Run a private or unlisted test with audio and video motion similar to the lesson you plan to broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health; if practical, listen and watch on a second device.
- For a scheduled event, start FFmpeg and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. Encoder settings · YouTube streaming tips.
- When finished, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder as directed by the encoder workflow. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; decide the event length and archive expectations explicitly for longer broadcasts. YouTube encoder guide.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |

| No preview appears | The encoder is not reaching the event, or the destination details are wrong. | Confirm FFmpeg is running, use the current event’s RTMPS URL and key, and check Live Control Room. If the key may have leaked, reset it and update the encoder configuration. |
| Connection drops or stream health degrades | The server’s sustained upload may not support the chosen bitrate. | Run a test with the intended content, monitor stream health, and reduce output bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot carry it reliably. |
| Keyframes do not match the recommended interval | The GOP was chosen for the wrong output frame rate. | Set the keyframe interval to about two seconds for the actual output frame rate, and keep it at or below four seconds. |
| Looping option is rejected | The installed FFmpeg build may not support the option or may differ from the assumed setup. | Check ffmpeg -h full and confirm the input option is placed before its -i. Adapt to the installed build rather than assuming the sample command is universal. |
| Loop boundary sounds or looks abrupt | The end and start of the file do not join smoothly. | Edit a loop-friendly master and test the transition before broadcasting; looping does not create a crossfade automatically. |
