To stop selected words from appearing in livestream alerts, change the filter in the alert provider—not necessarily in OBS or your streaming platform. In Streamlabs, open your account’s alert settings, choose the standard profanity list, add custom bad words, or use both, then save. You can also choose whether the filter applies to Recent Events. Be aware that a matching event may have its alert disabled rather than shown with the word removed.
Filter words in Streamlabs alerts
Streamlabs documents a profanity filter and a custom bad-words list for alerts. Its settings can also apply to Recent Events. Dashboard labels can move, so look for the functional labels below if the exact navigation differs.
- Sign in to Streamlabs and open account Settings, then the alert or Alert Box General Settings area. Streamlabs’ dedicated profanity-filter instructions describe the route through Account > Settings; its alert setup guide places these controls in General Settings.
- Find Profanity Filter and Custom Bad Words. Choose the standard list, your custom list, or both, depending on what you want blocked.
- Add the words or phrases you want included in your custom list.
- Choose whether the filter applies to Recent Events if you want it to affect that dashboard view as well as alerts.
- Save Settings before leaving the page.
Filtering is not the same as reviewing
Streamlabs also offers alert moderation, which lets you approve alerts before they appear. That is a human-review step, not an automatic word filter; use it when you want to inspect an alert before display rather than relying only on a list of blocked words.
What happens when a word matches
Choose blocked words carefully. An ordinary word can occur as part of a normal message, and Streamlabs warns that selecting “disable alerts containing bad words” may mean you receive no alert for a matching event. The setting should not be assumed to merely hide or replace the offending word while leaving the alert visible.

If a legitimate alert is missing, review the filter list and the disable-alert behavior first. Remove overly broad entries or change the relevant setting, then save and check the result with a suitable test event.
Alert filters, chat moderation, and OBS are separate controls

YouTube’s blocked-word feature moderates live chat; it does not establish control over a third-party alert overlay. Likewise, Twitch AutoMod and Streamlabs Cloudbot Word Protection concern chat moderation, not alert text. Check the relevant provider’s current documentation for its exact settings and behavior.

OBS Studio does not directly provide alerts. A third-party alert overlay can be added to OBS as a Browser Source, but the overlay’s provider supplies the alert behavior. Configure word filtering in that provider’s settings rather than expecting the OBS Browser Source itself to filter text.
If you use another alert provider
The title does not specify an alert provider, and the controls described here are Streamlabs-specific. Do not assume another service offers the same built-in list, custom-word options, Recent Events setting, or consequence for a match. Look in that provider’s alert or widget settings for profanity filtering, blocked words, or moderation, and consult its current alert documentation if those controls are not clear.
