You can keep a classical playlist playing on YouTube by looping rights-cleared recordings in a playback-and-encoder setup, then sending the output to a YouTube Live stream. YouTube does not loop the playlist for you or guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 playback: you must manage the encoder, connection, monitoring, and music rights. For a stream that should continue without a home computer running, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is another option.
Before you stream: clear the music rights
Confirm that you have the rights to livestream both the sound recordings and the underlying compositions for the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to secure necessary rights, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other participants: YouTube Terms of Service. A composition being in the public domain does not, by itself, make a modern performance or recording free to broadcast.
Keep written documentation of permissions and check whether they cover livestreaming, the intended territories, and any archive or replay you plan to retain. This is practical guidance, not a determination of whether a particular recording is cleared.
Allowlisting can matter even when you have a licence
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and may interrupt or terminate it if the issue continues. YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not on the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel before relying on a continuous broadcast: YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a continuous playlist and YouTube Live stream
- Prepare the playlist. Put only cleared recordings in the playlist. Choose a player or encoder workflow that can repeat the playlist, and test track transitions, silence, and what happens when playback reaches the end. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers ingest and stream management, not a universal playlist-loop setting, so looping must be configured in your chosen playback setup: YouTube Help: Set up a live stream with an encoder.
- Enable live streaming on the channel. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation may take time, so enable it well before your planned start: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or choose a stream, and set its title, description, visibility, and audience. Use the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream in your encoder. You can use YouTube’s reusable stream settings where appropriate; check the selected stream’s details rather than assuming a prior key or configuration is still current.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not include it in a public video, screenshot, chat, or shared document. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure and preview the encoder. Select the YouTube ingest method supported by your encoder, enter the stream URL and key, and route the looping playlist’s audio and visual output to it. Preview the feed in the Live Control Room before making it public. Confirm that audio is present, levels are usable, the visual is as intended, and the watch page behaves as expected.
- Start the stream and monitor it. Start the encoder, confirm YouTube receives the feed, then check audio and video during the broadcast. Keep a local recording if you need an independent archive, and verify that it is actually being written and has usable audio.
Choose a visual and plan the stream length
A radio-style broadcast can use a static image or a changing visual, but verify the finished output in the preview. A visual does not change the music rights you need. Avoid assuming that a long-running live stream will become a complete, usable YouTube archive.
YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams over 12 hours. If a YouTube archive or rewind matters, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local recording backup: YouTube Help: Create a live stream archive.

Make the broadcast more resilient
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the stream’s bitrate. A connection that only just meets the bitrate can be more vulnerable to disruption: YouTube Help: Tips to improve your live stream.
- Prefer a reliable connection. A stable wired connection may be useful where available, but no connection type guarantees uninterrupted service. Network outages, power loss, and encoder faults can still stop the broadcast.
- Check failover and recovery. Test any encoder failover or restart behavior before going public. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring its audio and video; do not assume that a process will recover correctly until you have verified it.
- Monitor both ends. Check the encoder’s status and the public watch page, and listen for silence, clipping, or a playlist that has stopped advancing. Keep the local recording under observation too.
Optional transport details: RTMP and HLS
YouTube supports encoder ingest. HLS is also available for supported encoders and use cases, but it is a transport method, not a playlist-loop feature. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; YouTube notes HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Use these settings only when your encoder’s YouTube HLS workflow calls for them: YouTube Help: Live streaming using HLS.
Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether live-streaming restrictions apply. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow time for it to become available.
- YouTube shows a placeholder or interrupts the feed: A Content ID match may be involved. Check YouTube’s live copyright guidance and contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting; a licence alone may not prevent automated interruption.
- The stream drops or buffers: Check the encoder and network, and ensure upload capacity has the recommended headroom above the bitrate. Test recovery behavior rather than relying on an untested restart.
- The stream is live but silent or stuck on one track: Verify the player’s loop setting and audio routing, then inspect the encoder preview and public watch page. Test end-of-playlist behavior before the next broadcast.
- The YouTube archive is incomplete or missing: Streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter sessions when an archive is important and make a local recording.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the key stored in the encoder.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live in a loop. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing needs to stay running on a home computer; the uploaded quality streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo plans, or start your free first day.
