To remove a sold property from a looping FFmpeg YouTube Live feed, remove its file from the local concat list, check that the remaining entries are valid, and restart FFmpeg—or use a reload method you have verified for your exact workflow. Do not assume an already-running FFmpeg process will immediately reread an edited list. First confirm whether you mean FFmpeg’s local file list or a YouTube HLS media playlist; they are different things and follow different update rules.
Identify which playlist you need to change
“Playlist” can mean three different parts of a property-streaming setup. Work out which one your command and ingest method actually use before editing anything.

The procedure below is for the common case where FFmpeg reads a local concat list and sends the resulting stream to YouTube. If your encoder actually uses HLS ingest, use the HLS section below instead.
Replace a sold listing in a local FFmpeg concat list
1. Check what is playing and how FFmpeg is started
Check the encoder logs or operator dashboard to identify the active clip, the concat-list path, and how the FFmpeg process is managed. Determine whether restarting FFmpeg will interrupt viewers. Keep the current broadcast configuration available so you can restart the encoder without accidentally changing unrelated YouTube settings.

2. Edit the list, not the video files
Make a copy of the current source list for rollback. In the working list, remove the sold property’s entry and leave the remaining files in the desired playback order. Preserve the concat syntax already used by the command; the exact entry format depends on that list and workflow. FFmpeg’s FAQ distinguishes concat methods: the concat demuxer, concat filter, and concat protocol are not interchangeable. The filter is appropriate when re-encoding is needed; the demuxer may be used to avoid re-encoding when the files are suitable for file-level concatenation.
3. Validate every remaining entry
- Check that every referenced file still exists and can be opened by the FFmpeg account.
- Check paths and list syntax against the command you actually run. The concat demuxer enables
safe=1by default, rejecting unsafe paths and directives; use relative, portable paths in a trusted working directory when that fits your setup. - Do not disable the safety check casually. Review the installed version’s local documentation and the concat demuxer documentation if a path is rejected.
4. Apply the change deterministically
If the application has no reload procedure documented and tested for the running process, stop and restart FFmpeg with the revised list. Editing a file on disk is not, by itself, evidence that an open concat input will reread it. The reviewed FFmpeg FAQ and concat demuxer documentation describe concat behavior and options but do not promise immediate live mutation of an open input. Check the local documentation for your installed FFmpeg version; online documentation tracks the newest revision.

5. Confirm the replacement before deleting the old copy
Watch the encoder logs to verify that FFmpeg opens the intended next file, then confirm YouTube is receiving a healthy stream. Keep the removed file and original list available until the change is confirmed, so you can restore the previous rotation if the revised list fails. Test the same edit-and-restart procedure with a non-sale clip before relying on it during a live property rotation.
If your workflow uses YouTube HLS ingest
Do not edit an HLS media playlist unless FFmpeg is actually delivering HLS to YouTube. Follow the YouTube HLS ingestion guide for media-playlist construction and segment URLs. It limits characters in the filename portion of the file= value to alphanumeric characters, underscores, forward slashes, hyphens, and periods; it also says not to URL-encode that filename.

For live HLS playlists, RFC 8216 requires an EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE tag when media segments are removed. Increase its sequence value for each removed segment, and remove segments in their displayed order. These requirements apply to HLS media playlists, not to a local FFmpeg concat list.
Common problems and fixes
- The sold clip still plays after you edited the list. The running process may still be using its already-open input. Restart it or use only a reload mechanism you have verified for this application and FFmpeg build.
- FFmpeg cannot open an entry. Check for a stale path, a missing file, permissions, or a path rejected by the concat demuxer’s default
safe=1setting. Correct the entry or use an appropriate trusted relative path. - The stream stops or viewers see a gap during the change. A restart can interrupt playback; uninterrupted viewing cannot be guaranteed without knowing the command, ingest protocol, process manager, and restart behavior. Test the transition before production use.
- YouTube’s HLS ingest rejects the playlist or segments. Confirm you are editing HLS rather than a local concat list, then check the filename characters and URL-encoding guidance in YouTube’s HLS guide and the sequence and ordering rules in RFC 8216.
