For a real-estate tour channel with camera inputs, property details, maps, title cards, branded overlays, or operator-led changes, OBS Studio is the practical default. Its documented scenes and sources are built for arranging those elements visually. FFmpeg is a reasonable alternative when your broadcast is already a defined media pipeline and you want to control it with scripts—but the available evidence does not establish a specific FFmpeg setup as more reliable or easier to maintain.
If you only need to repeat one prepared tour video, either may work. In both cases, YouTube’s ingest settings, your upload connection, and a tested plan for monitoring and recovery matter as much as encoder choice.

Choose OBS for a composed, operator-led tour
Use OBS when the program needs deliberate visual composition: for example, a camera view alongside a property name, map, contact details, or a branded slate. You can organize different layouts as scenes and combine the required sources. That is a more direct fit than treating a visually changing production as a single encoding command.
Consider FFmpeg for a defined, automated pipeline
FFmpeg may fit if your input, encoding choices, and process controls are already specified and the operator can test and monitor them. This comparison does not establish a validated command for a particular tour source or YouTube destination, so do not copy an untested recipe into a continuous broadcast.

For one prepared video, test the actual workflow
If the channel simply repeats a finished walkthrough, the choice is less about scene composition. Test the media, audio, loop boundary, output settings, and recovery behavior with the exact setup you intend to leave running.
Set YouTube’s ingest settings for the output you need
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. The guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Confirm that your chosen encoder and workflow support the codec you select. H.264 reference bitrates

These are YouTube’s recommended video bitrates, not a guarantee of the finished stream’s visual quality. Its settings page distinguishes minimum and recommended rates and provides separate ranges for AV1 and H.265; consult that table for your selected codec and resolution rather than applying the H.264 figures to another codec.
Match the bitrate to the connection
Your sustained upload capacity must support the stream. Run a speed test, choose a quality that the connection can reliably carry, and test with representative movement and audio before launch. A moving property walkthrough, music, and live camera footage may stress a connection differently from a static slate. During the broadcast, check stream health and act on YouTube’s messages. Set up a continuous tour loop in OBS
- Build the program. In OBS, create scenes for the layouts you need and add sources such as video devices, images, text, or media. Arrange property details and branding so they remain legible beside the footage. The OBS overview and Sources guide describe these building blocks.
- Add prerecorded media. Add a Media Source for a local tour file and enable looping. For a playlist, use VLC Video; VLC must be installed, with an installation compatible with OBS’s bitness. Follow the Media Sources guide.
- Set the YouTube output. Enter the stream key and configure the encoder for YouTube’s current ingest recommendations: RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), a supported codec, and audio encoding. Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate according to the target output and YouTube’s tables.
- Test the complete loop. Run a stream test with audio and movement similar to the broadcast. Check playback through the loop boundary, audio continuity, slate or branding, and what happens after the media source or OBS is restarted. - Prepare for interruptions. Enable OBS’s automatic reconnect option and test it. Decide separately who or what will detect a prolonged outage and restore the feed; reconnect settings do not provide a guaranteed recovery arrangement. OBS overview
Keep the broadcast observable and recoverable
A 24/7 setup needs more than an encoder that can start a stream. The production computer, source files or cameras, and upload connection all remain part of the operating chain. Decide how an outage will be noticed, who is responsible for responding, and how you will confirm that the stream is back. OBS’s reconnect setting can help with reconnection, but the available documentation does not establish a universal restart interval or an uptime guarantee.
- Keep a representative test of the full media loop, including transitions and audio.
- Monitor YouTube stream health and messages while the feed is running.
- Check that the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate, with headroom for its normal variation.
- Test the recovery plan by restarting the source or application and confirming the intended feed returns.
- Do not assume that a process running on the computer means YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
Common problems and what to check
The stream drops or reports poor health
Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and compare the selected bitrate with sustained upload capacity. Run another speed test, lower the output quality if needed, and retest under representative motion and audio. Confirm RTMPS, CBR, and the recommended keyframe interval are configured.

The tour freezes or does not repeat
Check that looping is enabled on the OBS Media Source. For a VLC playlist, confirm VLC is installed and compatible with OBS’s bitness. Test the loop boundary and restart behavior before relying on the source unattended.
Audio breaks or the slate looks wrong at the loop boundary
Inspect the transition between the last and first frames and listen across the same point. Adjust or replace the media if the seam is disruptive, then rerun a full loop test with the intended audio and branding.

OBS reconnects, but the channel remains offline
Reconnect controls are not a complete outage-response plan. Check the encoder’s output and YouTube’s stream status, and make sure a person or monitoring process is assigned to notice a prolonged interruption and restore the feed.
