Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →On a Linux machine, run an FFmpeg playlist at boot with a systemd service: give the service an absolute playlist path and working directory, make the YouTube stream key available securely, then enable the service for the machine’s boot target. This keeps the process independent of an interactive login, but it does not prove the stream is healthy or guarantee one uninterrupted YouTube broadcast indefinitely.
Choose the playlist method first
“Playlist” can mean separate files played in sequence, or one file repeated. Those are different FFmpeg input patterns; the example below covers a sequence of local files using the concat demuxer. If you mean a single repeating file, verify the looping option against the documentation for your installed FFmpeg build and test it before relying on it unattended.
| Approach | Best for | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|
| FFconcat text file with the concat demuxer | Playing several local files sequentially | Files should have compatible streams, codecs and time bases. Incorrect duration information can cause timestamp artifacts or gaps. |
| One file repeated | Repeating a single source asset | This is not an FFconcat playlist. Confirm the installed build’s loop option and test the transition; do not assume the example below repeats the final file. |
Prepare the playlist and publishing details
Make an FFconcat list
Create a text file such as /srv/youtube/playlist.ffconcat. Its first line must identify the format, followed by one file entry per line:
ffconcat version 1.0
file '/srv/youtube/media/clip-01.mp4'
file '/srv/youtube/media/clip-02.mp4'
Use paths readable by the service account. The concat demuxer treats this as a virtual concatenation, so check the files’ stream layout, codecs and time bases rather than assuming any two videos will join cleanly. Avoid remote URLs or untrusted playlist paths unless you understand the demuxer’s safe-path behavior.

Get the YouTube URL and stream key
In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the live stream and copy the encoder URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide describes revealing the RTMPS URL and entering both values in the encoder (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder). Prefer RTMPS when available; YouTube lists it among its recommended encoder settings (Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).
Treat the key like a password. Do not publish it in a script, shared repository, world-readable service unit or journal output. Store it in a root-owned configuration or another secret mechanism with restrictive access, and check how the chosen method exposes values in process listings and logs. If the key is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the service’s secret configuration.

Set video and audio parameters for the actual stream
The following command is a starting shape for a video-and-audio FFconcat playlist sent to YouTube over RTMPS. It is illustrative, not a universal preset; replace the URL placeholder with the actual ingest URL and supply the key securely rather than copying a real key into a public script.
/usr/bin/ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i /srv/youtube/playlist.ffconcat
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 14M -maxrate 14M -bufsize 28M
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv 'rtmps://URL_FROM_LIVE_CONTROL_ROOM/STREAM_KEY'
This example’s video bitrate corresponds to YouTube Help’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps: 14 Mbps. For H.264 at 1080p/60 fps, the same page lists 17 Mbps. These are codec- and format-specific recommended rates, not universal requirements; match the current table’s codec, resolution and frame-rate row, then verify that your sustained upload capacity can carry the selected stream reliably. Recommendations may change after the page was reviewed in 2026.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. At 30 fps, a 60-frame GOP represents two seconds; adjust the frame count if your frame rate differs.
- Other parameters: Set frame rate, audio, scaling, pixel format and encoder to suit the actual files and target output. Test with representative motion and audio rather than assuming the sample fits every playlist.
- Upload capacity: YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Leave enough reliable headroom for the chosen bitrate and normal network variation.
Create and enable a systemd service
Save a unit such as /etc/systemd/system/youtube-playlist.service. This example shows the service shape; adapt the user, paths, FFmpeg options, target and secret handling to your Linux distribution and security policy.
[Unit]
Description=YouTube Live FFmpeg playlist
Wants=network-online.target
After=network-online.target
[Service]
Type=simple
User=streamer
Group=streamer
WorkingDirectory=/srv/youtube
ExecStart=/usr/bin/ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i /srv/youtube/playlist.ffconcat -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv rtmps://LIVE_URL/STREAM_KEY
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=5
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
The abbreviated ExecStart is not the tuned publishing command above: combine the options you have actually tested, and arrange secure key delivery rather than leaving a real key in the unit. Absolute executable and media paths matter because a boot service does not inherit the same working directory or shell environment as your login session. network-online.target ordering is useful only to the extent your distribution’s network manager implements a meaningful online wait.

- Reload unit definitions:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload - Enable at boot and start now:
sudo systemctl enable --now youtube-playlist.service - Check service state:
sudo systemctl status youtube-playlist.service - Read recent logs:
sudo journalctl -u youtube-playlist.service -n 100 --no-pager - Test a real reboot: restart the machine and confirm the service starts without a logged-in user, then check the stream in Live Control Room.
Systemd’s restart policy can restart a process after failure, subject to start-rate limits; it cannot by itself detect every frozen encoder, invalid output or unhealthy YouTube stream. The exact network-online behavior, target alias and service-account setup vary by distribution. See the upstream systemd service documentation and the Debian systemd service manual for platform details.

Before leaving the service unattended, test using the actual playlist, audio, motion and connection. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health in Live Control Room. A successful systemd status only means the process is running; it does not establish that YouTube is receiving a valid picture and sound.

YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That is an archive behavior, not a promise that a single broadcast can remain uninterrupted indefinitely or that a restart arrangement will behave a particular way. Plan how you will handle the stream lifecycle and check YouTube’s current encoder guidance before depending on long-running broadcasts (YouTube encoder guide).
Troubleshoot common failures
- Service works manually but not after reboot: check
WorkingDirectory, absolute paths, permissions for the service user, and whether the unit is enabled. Inspectsystemctl statusand the unit journal rather than relying on a login shell’s environment. - FFmpeg exits immediately: read the journal for a malformed option, missing file, unreadable playlist or unsupported codec. Confirm the installed FFmpeg binary path and test the same command and files under the service account.
- FFmpeg runs but YouTube shows no picture or reports a connection problem: verify the RTMPS ingest URL and current stream key, codec and output settings, then inspect YouTube stream health. If the key may be compromised, reset it and update the secret configuration.
- Playlist transitions show gaps or artifacts: check compatibility of stream layouts, codecs and time bases, plus duration metadata in the source files. Test the full sequence, not just the first clip.
- Service repeatedly restarts: inspect the journal for the underlying exit reason. A restart delay can avoid immediate retries, but systemd rate limiting may stop repeated attempts; restarting does not repair a bad key, broken playlist or insufficient upload.
- Connection drops while FFmpeg remains running: process supervision and stream recovery are separate concerns. FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer has optional network-output recovery, but its
attempt_recoveryoption defaults to false and requires separate configuration. Test recovery behavior on your installed build before depending on it.
Where to run it from India
The same Linux and YouTube encoder steps apply in India; the reviewed documentation establishes no India-specific encoder setting. Choose a host based on the upload link’s sustained bitrate, outbound bandwidth, storage access, power and availability, routing, provider policy and cost. A local Linux machine avoids paying for a separate host but depends on its power and internet remaining available. A remote VPS is another hosting category, not a guarantee of better routing or performance; assess a specific provider and its terms before committing.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or connection to stay on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos and playlists. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops from the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. There is no need to maintain a Linux host or systemd unit at home.
Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping, playlists and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Plans differ by duration, not features; India checkout supports UPI and cards, and worldwide checkout supports cards. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo; start the free day at StreamNeo signup.
