You can set up YouTube channel memberships in YouTube Studio under Earn > Memberships, if your channel and location are eligible. Build a small offer of benefits you can reliably deliver, submit it for review, then announce it and track which levels attract and retain members. Memberships can create recurring revenue, but YouTube’s revenue share is based on net revenue and does not guarantee a particular payout.
Check whether your channel can enable memberships
In YouTube Studio, open Earn and check the Memberships tab. Eligibility depends on feature availability in your location, channel status, and compliance with YouTube’s terms and policies; do not assume that meeting general YouTube Partner Program (YPP) thresholds automatically unlocks memberships.
- Your channel must be in a location where memberships are available.
- The channel must not be set as Made for Kids, and YouTube also lists having a significant number of videos set as Made for Kids as a disqualifying condition.
- YouTube lists a significant number of ineligible videos—including Made for Kids videos and music-claimed videos—as another potential barrier.
- You must accept and comply with applicable terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module.
YouTube Help’s general YPP eligibility page lists policy compliance, an available country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and one active AdSense for YouTube account (or readiness to create one in Studio). It describes two eligibility routes: 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Shorts-feed watch hours do not count toward the 4,000-hour route. These are general YPP thresholds, not a guarantee of memberships access; YouTube says applications receive a policy review. Design an offer you can sustain
Decide what members will receive before creating levels. YouTube recommends considering why viewers might join, what they value, regional pricing, and the time or cost required to deliver each perk. Ask your audience what would be useful, and begin with one to three levels rather than building a complicated menu before you know what you can maintain.

Choose perks with a realistic delivery workload
Possible formats listed by YouTube include badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, members-only live chat, members-only live streams, milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts, and videos. Choose benefits that fit your channel and schedule. A simple, consistently delivered benefit is generally safer to promise than a demanding cadence you may not be able to keep.

Be explicit about what each level includes and when members can expect it. Benefits stack: members at a higher-priced level also receive the benefits assigned to lower levels. That makes the higher tier’s extra value clear, but it also means your fulfillment workload accumulates. YouTube requires creators to provide the benefits they promise and says it is not responsible for creator perks. Check the current membership policies before offering a benefit. How many membership levels can I create?
You can create up to six levels, with one to five perks on each level. YouTube recommends that many creators start with one to three and add levels as their membership grows. Set up and submit your levels in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, open YouTube Studio and select Earn.
- Open the Memberships tab. If it is unavailable, recheck eligibility and location availability in Studio.
- In Add levels and perks, follow the on-screen setup to create your levels, set prices, and add benefits. Review how benefits stack from lower-priced levels to higher-priced ones.
- Check every description against what you can deliver and YouTube’s membership policies, then select Publish.
- Wait for YouTube’s review before treating the offer as live. YouTube Help says review takes about a day; timing can vary, so check Studio for status. (YouTube Help, accessed 2026.)
How do I price and promote my memberships?
YouTube’s guidance is to weigh what your audience may pay for, the value and effort of your perks, regional pricing, and what viewers say they want. There is no single price that suits every channel. Make the differences between levels easy to understand, and avoid pricing a tier around benefits whose time or cost is unpredictable.

YouTube says creators can adjust prices for new members once every 12 months after the previous price update. Existing members remain at the price at which they originally joined. Check the current options and terms in Studio before changing your offer. (YouTube Help, accessed 2026.)

Make the launch understandable to viewers
- Explain why you are launching memberships and how member support will be used.
- Announce the program in a video and consider making an intro video that explains each level and its perks.
- Prepare members-only material before launch so new members can see what the offer means in practice.
- Mention memberships in public uploads, add a
/joinlink to default upload descriptions, and consider members-only content or early access where it fits your channel. - Engage members through posts and keep the ordinary channel experience available to nonmembers; be clear that joining is optional.

How much of membership revenue does YouTube pay creators?
Under the Commerce Product Module, YouTube states: “YouTube will pay them 70% of net revenues from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks.” The stated share applies to net revenue under the applicable module terms; it is not 70% of a membership’s sticker price and is not a forecast of what a creator will earn. Estimated revenue in Analytics may be adjusted for matters including invalid traffic, Content ID claims, disputes, or certain ad campaign types. YouTube says finalized earnings are visible in AdSense for YouTube. Review the current module terms and your partner agreement for the terms that apply to your channel. YouTube Help’s earnings overview also says, “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.”
Track acquisition, retention, and channel status
After launch, use the membership information in YouTube Studio to monitor which levels bring in members and which retain them. Review that performance alongside the effort needed to deliver perks. If a benefit is consuming more time or money than expected, use what you learn to refine the offer responsibly; do not promise an unchanged benefit if you cannot provide it.
Keep an eye on channel and monetization status, too. YouTube says memberships can enter paused mode in circumstances including channel termination, monetization policy violations, loss of monetization, or setting a channel as Made for Kids. During paused mode, members lose perk access, payments pause, and the Join button disappears. If the channel does not leave paused mode within 120 days, the program ends, members are lost, and their last month’s payment is refunded from the creator’s revenue share.
