Streamlabs’ documented Python-script import workflow is for Streamlabs Chatbot, not a verified built-in feature of the current Streamlabs Desktop editor. If you have the legacy Chatbot application, you can configure its Python path and import a script ZIP from the Scripts tab. The instructions below reflect Streamlabs’ legacy guidance, not a recommendation to install an obsolete Python version for new projects.
First, identify the right Streamlabs application
Streamlabs’ Chatbot Scripts documentation describes a Scripts tab inside Streamlabs Chatbot. Streamlabs’ Chatbot product page is also distinct from Streamlabs Desktop. The sources do not establish that the same script-import workflow exists in the current Streamlabs Desktop editor.
If you are looking at Streamlabs Desktop and cannot find a Scripts tab, do not assume you have missed a setting: first confirm that you have opened Streamlabs Chatbot. Streamlabs’ script article was published on August 5, 2020 and last updated on April 25, 2025; whether the current release continues to support this legacy workflow is not established by those pages.
Before importing: check the legacy Python requirement
Streamlabs’ script guide specifies Python 2.7.13. Its related Chatbot FAQ and troubleshooting page says the legacy setup expects the 32-bit (x86) version and warns against Python 3 or x64. This is dated compatibility guidance for that Chatbot workflow, not current general Python advice. Python 2.7.13 is obsolete; avoid installing it solely on the assumption that Streamlabs Desktop needs it, and consider the security and maintenance implications before using a legacy application or runtime.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Import a script ZIP in Streamlabs Chatbot
- Install the required legacy runtime only if you have decided to use this Chatbot workflow. Follow the Python 2.7.13 and 32-bit guidance described above. The paths and labels below may differ if your installation is not the default one.
- Open Streamlabs Chatbot and select the Scripts tab. Open the tab’s gear or settings control.
- Set the Python directory. Find “Python 2.7.13 Directory” and point it to Python’s
Libfolder, not a folder namedLibs. Streamlabs givesC:Python27Libas a default example; use the actualLiblocation on your computer rather than assuming that example path applies to every installation. - Obtain the script ZIP cautiously. Streamlabs recommends its Chatbot Discord or someone you know well as a source. That recommendation is not a safety certification: the documentation does not say that arbitrary scripts are audited. Do not run an unfamiliar script with elevated permissions or bypass security warnings.
- Use the Scripts tab’s Import button. Select the downloaded ZIP and follow the application’s prompts. If the import does not complete, open the Scripts tab’s error view and use the reported error to guide troubleshooting.
If the Scripts tab is missing or import fails
- No Scripts tab: Confirm that you opened Streamlabs Chatbot, not Streamlabs Desktop. Streamlabs’ FAQ also identifies unconnected bot and streamer accounts as a reason the tab may not appear; check both connections.
- Python or import error: Recheck that the configured directory is the Python
Libfolder and that the legacy setup matches the documented Python 2.7.13, 32-bit requirement. Use the Scripts tab’s error view for the specific message. - Unknown script source: Do not disable security protections or grant administrator access just to make a script run. The official guide suggests trusted sources but does not document a script review or security-audit process.
- Different labels or behavior: The documented directions are for the legacy Chatbot application. The reviewed Streamlabs pages do not resolve whether current releases still expose or support this workflow; check Streamlabs’ current product guidance before relying on it.
When Cloudbot is a better fit
If your goal is to create ordinary chat commands rather than import an existing Python script, Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide describes enabling Cloudbot online, assigning platform permissions, and creating commands from a dashboard. This is a different setup path: the guide does not say that Cloudbot imports or runs Chatbot Python scripts.

StreamNeo is separate from Streamlabs Chatbot: it does not import or run chatbot scripts. For a different task—keeping a pre-recorded YouTube channel live around the clock—you can upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so a computer at home does not have to stay on. It streams to YouTube only.
