How to Use a YouTube Live Schedule for a 24/7 Pre-Recorded Channel

A YouTube Live schedule creates an event, not a continuous video feed. Set up the event, connect an encoder and plan for continuity and archives.

A YouTube Live schedule creates the event page, shareable URL and reminder option; it does not play your videos. To run a pre-recorded channel continuously, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or streaming service to send the video feed and keep it running. You must also plan for interruptions and event boundaries: YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, and does not establish that one scheduled event can run indefinitely.

What scheduling does—and what it does not do

Scheduling in YouTube Studio sets up a live event that viewers can find, share and receive reminders for. The video still has to be sent to YouTube by an encoder or service. A schedule alone neither loops a recording nor keeps a broadcast online. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover scheduling and connecting an encoder.

For a 24/7 pre-recorded channel, the practical setup has two parts: create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio, then provide a dependable source that sends the program. Decide in advance how you will handle interruptions, monitoring, and the end of a scheduled event. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a universal scheduling cadence for a continuous channel or say that one event can run indefinitely.

Schedule the YouTube Live event

  1. Enable live streaming if necessary. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions. Allow for that wait before you plan to go live.
  2. Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Choose to reuse prior settings or create a new stream.
  3. Set up the event. Complete the available event details and scheduling choices in Live Control Room. YouTube says the scheduled event can be promoted and shared, and viewers can opt to receive reminders. Copy the event URL if you plan to share it.
  4. Keep the stream key private. You will need the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room to connect your encoder. The key is a credential that allows the encoder feed to reach your YouTube stream; treat it as sensitive. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.

Connect an encoder and start the broadcast

  1. Choose your video source. Prepare the pre-recorded program and configure an encoder—software, hardware or a hosted service—to send it to YouTube. Confirm that the chosen setup can play or loop the material as you intend; YouTube’s encoder listings identify types of supported products, not a comparative test of their 24/7 capabilities.
  2. Enter the stream details. Copy the stream URL and key from Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields. Avoid sharing or publishing the key.
  3. Test before the scheduled time. Check video, audio and stream health, and verify that your chosen quality is reliable for the available upload connection. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the stream; see its live streaming tips.
  4. Start the encoder at showtime. Once it is sending the feed, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live. Starting an encoder feed and making the event live are distinct actions in this workflow.
  5. End the event deliberately. When ending a broadcast, end it in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. For a continuous channel, establish how the next event or session will be started rather than assuming the schedule itself creates an endless broadcast.

Choose reliable encoder settings

Settings depend on the output resolution, frame rate and upload capacity; there is no single bitrate that fits every stream. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate and resolution guidance to select the appropriate values for your output.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS options and recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery.
  • Video codec: YouTube’s guidance lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 options. Select a codec supported by your encoder and follow YouTube’s settings for the chosen output.
  • Rate control: YouTube recommends CBR.
  • Frame rate: Guidance covers output up to 60 fps; the appropriate choice depends on the source and delivery conditions.
  • Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds.
  • Bitrate: Choose from YouTube’s table for the intended resolution and frame rate, then test whether your upload connection can sustain it. A connection that cannot reliably carry the selected output can interrupt delivery.

Plan for archives and 24/7 continuity

YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not mean a 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one automatically archived video, nor does the cited guidance promise that a single scheduled event can remain live indefinitely. Decide how you will manage session boundaries and preserve any recordings you need.

Continuity also depends on what happens outside YouTube Studio: the encoder or service must keep sending the pre-recorded program, and someone should monitor audio, video and stream health. Consider how your setup behaves after a connection failure, app or device restart, or an interruption in the source. YouTube’s help pages do not establish a particular provider’s recovery performance or a universal 24/7 operating plan.

Ways to keep the pre-recorded feed running

Approach What is established What to verify for 24/7 use
Software encoder YouTube supports encoder software as a way to send a live feed. Whether it can schedule or loop your media, recover after a network or app restart, and run reliably on a computer that must remain on; also consider monitoring, setup and operating costs.
Dedicated encoder YouTube lists hardware encoders. Its encoder page describes optional AJA PlayToStream functionality for scheduling pre-recorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Check the exact model and optional features for schedule controls, compatible media formats, remote monitoring, recovery and budget. The listing does not establish current stock, price or an Amazon offer.
Hosted or cloud encoding service YouTube’s encoder list includes third-party software and services, but does not establish the 24/7 performance or pricing of a particular provider. Check scheduling, uptime commitments, alerts, storage or media limits, recovery, geographic and data considerations, and total cost.

Or let it run in the cloud

Common problems and fixes

  • The scheduled event appears, but no video plays: scheduling creates the event, not the feed. Start and configure an encoder or streaming service with the event’s stream URL and key.
  • No preview appears in Live Control Room: check that the encoder is running, the URL and key were copied correctly, and the stream is actually sending. Keep the key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, review the live-stream settings in YouTube Studio.
  • The feed drops or looks unstable: compare the selected output against YouTube’s bitrate guidance and test upload capacity. YouTube recommends choosing a quality the connection can reliably sustain.
  • The broadcast does not start automatically at the scheduled time: the schedule and encoder feed are separate. Confirm that the encoder is configured and sending the feed, then check Live Control Room for the preview and take the required Go live action.
  • You expect one archive for a full day: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Plan for session boundaries and do not assume one 24-hour broadcast will be archived as a single video.

Copyright and channel policy checks

Before scheduling a long-running channel, make sure you have the rights to every video and audio track you send, and review YouTube’s live-stream and channel policies. A scheduled event or encoder does not grant permission to rebroadcast material. Avoid assuming that a technically successful stream will meet YouTube’s copyright or monetization requirements.
