Start by checking the stream’s health messages and OBS network-dropped-frame statistics, then repeat the same test over direct Ethernet with other uploads paused. A speed test or a YouTube warning alone cannot identify whether the cause is Wi-Fi, your router, your ISP’s access network, the upstream route, or YouTube ingestion. Compare results at the time the problem occurs before changing encoder settings or blaming a provider.
What the symptoms can—and cannot—tell you
In OBS, a rising network-dropped-frame count points to trouble delivering the outgoing stream, but does not pinpoint where along the route it occurs. YouTube’s Live Control Room may report that it is not receiving enough video. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API calls that condition videoIngestionStarved and explains: “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. As such, viewers will experience buffering.” It describes the viewer impact, not the location of the fault. Google’s health-status documentation also distinguishes ingestion starvation from bitrate and keyframe problems.
A speed-test result is one observation, not proof that your connection can sustain the stream’s upload continuously or that the route to YouTube is healthy. No published figure establishes how often Indian residential subscribers experience this exact 4K/60 problem; diagnosis needs evidence from your own connection.
Capture evidence before changing settings
Record a baseline during the fault and, if possible, repeat at a quieter time. Keep the encoder settings the same so the comparison is useful.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Write down the time and whether the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Record OBS’s network-dropped-frame count or percentage and whether the outgoing bitrate is steady or fluctuating.
- Copy the exact YouTube Live Control Room health message.
- Note whether cloud backups, downloads, or other household uploads were active.
- Repeat the observation during the period when the issue normally occurs; a short test can miss intermittent congestion.
This is a practical comparison method, not a prescribed YouTube or TRAI diagnostic procedure.
Check the 4K/60 encoder baseline
Compare your video bitrate with YouTube Help’s current live encoder settings for 2160p at 60 fps. These are encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that an Indian broadband line will sustain the upload continuously.

| Video codec | YouTube’s 2160p/60 guidance |
|---|---|
| H.264 | Recommended bitrate: 50 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | Recommended bitrate: 35 Mbps; listed minimum: 10 Mbps |
Check the rest of the encoder configuration as well:
- Use CBR (constant bitrate).
- Use a supported codec and a frame rate no higher than 60 fps.
- Set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Use RTMP or RTMPS as the ingest protocol.
Do not raise bitrate simply because dropped frames appear; a higher target can demand more upload capacity without fixing an unstable route. YouTube recommends matching stream quality to the connection, testing upload performance, and monitoring stream health. Its help page says 4K streams use normal latency; the low-latency option is not available at 4K. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Isolate Wi-Fi from the rest of the connection
- Connect by Ethernet. Where feasible, connect the streaming computer directly to the router, then repeat the same test with the same encoder settings. This tests whether the home wireless segment is contributing to the symptom.
- Pause competing uploads. Temporarily stop cloud backups, file uploads, and other large transfers during the controlled test.
- Compare at different times. Keep the wired setup and encoder configuration fixed, and repeat during both the affected period and a quieter window.
- Interpret the difference cautiously. If the symptom disappears only when wired, investigate Wi-Fi signal, interference, router placement, or local wireless congestion. If it persists over Ethernet, Wi-Fi is less likely to be the only cause; the computer, router, ISP access network, upstream route, or YouTube ingestion may still be involved.
A Cat 6 cable may be a practical way to make this comparison if you do not have a suitable cable, but it only isolates the local wireless link. It cannot repair packet loss elsewhere in the ISP or upstream path. Test before buying a new router or mesh system.
Match YouTube’s health warning to the next check
- Bitrate warning: Check the configured video bitrate and encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance for your resolution, frame rate, and codec. A warning does not itself establish that the broadband route is at fault.
- Keyframe warning: Check the keyframe interval. YouTube says intervals longer than four seconds can cause buffering; its recommended interval is two seconds.
- “Not receiving enough video” or
videoIngestionStarved: Compare the warning time with OBS’s network-dropped-frame and bitrate behavior. The message means YouTube is not receiving enough video for smooth playback; it does not identify which segment of the path is responsible.
YouTube advises testing before going live with audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then monitoring stream health. Its guidance is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.

When and how to contact your ISP
If repeated tests still show unstable delivery while the computer is wired, send your ISP evidence tied to the failure window rather than only a single speed-test result.
- Give the timestamps and say whether the test used Ethernet.
- Include OBS’s network-dropped-frame statistics and the exact YouTube health warning.
- Describe the bitrate behavior and whether other uploads were paused.
- Provide results from repeated tests, including a comparison with a quieter time if available.
- Ask the provider to check the access connection and route during the affected period.
TRAI’s Access (Wireline Broadband and Wireless Broadband Services) Quality of Service Regulations, 2024, dated 2 August 2024, include latency, jitter, and packet-drop parameters. The Government of India’s announcement says the framework introduced jitter and packet-drop parameters, aligned latency benchmarks, and shifted selected measurements from averages to percentile measures. TRAI’s wireline broadband index lists provider performance reporting for the quarter ending June 2026. These are regulatory and provider-reporting contexts, not an individualized end-to-end test of your route. Or let it run in the cloud
If the issue is that a local computer must stay on to send a pre-recorded video, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. This does not diagnose or repair packet loss on a live encoder’s broadband route.
