YouTube supports continuous encoder streams, but YouTube Studio does not combine playlists for you: playlist order, transitions, and restart behavior depend on your playback and automation setup.
Before configuring anything, clear the rights for every recording and composition you plan to broadcast. A playlist being available on YouTube—or a successful test stream—does not grant permission to rebroadcast its music.
What you need for a continuous playlist stream
The encoder is the bridge between your playlist playback and YouTube Live. Your setup needs:
- A YouTube channel eligible to stream live, with live streaming enabled.
- A source that can play or automate the selected tracks in the intended order.
- A software or standalone hardware encoder that sends the source to YouTube.
- Permission to broadcast each recording and composition, plus a plan for copyright matching, monitoring, and archives.
YouTube describes both software and hardware encoder workflows and recognizes continuous streams as an encoder use case. Its documentation does not prescribe a particular playlist application or a tested recipe for rotating several music playlists. Clear rights for the Indian music first
Do not assume that a personal music subscription, an existing YouTube playlist, a public upload, or permission to play a song privately also permits a live rebroadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the channel operator to hold the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. YouTube also requires compliance with applicable laws. Read the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.
Check each recording and composition
Make a catalogue of every track, including alternate versions, remixes, film songs, devotional recordings, and independent releases. For each, confirm who controls the sound recording and the composition rights, the territories covered, whether live streaming and monetization are permitted, and whether an archive is covered. The relevant rights holders and licensing route depend on the specific repertoire; there is no single permission that can be assumed to clear every Indian track.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, replacement output, interruption, or termination. YouTube advises that even a creator with a licence may need the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Get confirmation for the actual channel and catalogue before relying on a licence. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream; that is useful advice, not a guarantee that the music is cleared. Keep written records
Retain permissions, territory and usage terms, monetization and archive conditions, and any allowlist confirmation. If a track is claimed or the stream is interrupted, check YouTube Studio for the restriction and follow YouTube’s resolution process rather than assuming that the licence alone will prevent automated enforcement.
Enable YouTube Live and create the event
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete this well before the planned launch.
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Follow the encoder setup flow in YouTube Studio and choose the event you intend to broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, share it with viewers, or include it in a screen capture. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Keep the event private or otherwise appropriate for testing. Use the encoder preview to verify the correct event and incoming audio before starting the public broadcast.

Build the playlist and encoder workflow
Choose how tracks enter the encoder
Configure a media player or playlist-automation system to play the tracks in the desired sequence and feed that output into one encoder stream. Decide whether the stream presents only audio or includes a visual layer, such as track information or a static visual, and make sure the encoder receives the intended audio source. YouTube’s setup documentation does not specify a playlist format, app, or crossfade method, so confirm those details in the documentation for the player and encoder you choose.

Set behavior at transitions and restarts
Determine what happens when a list ends: should it repeat, move to the next playlist, or stop for an operator? Decide whether playlist changes should be announced or shown on screen, whether transitions should be gapless or crossfaded, and how the system should recover if the player or encoder restarts. These are choices in your playback and automation setup, not functions that YouTube Studio performs for you.
Choose software or hardware encoding
A software encoder on an existing computer can suit a computer-based workflow. A dedicated hardware encoder is optional; consider one if its operating model, automation, and compatibility suit your channel. Compare the options by how they handle playlist transitions and restarts, their compatibility with YouTube ingest, monitoring and backup needs, and upfront and ongoing costs. YouTube’s list of verified encoders is a discovery aid, not an endorsement: YouTube says listed products are not made by YouTube and should be evaluated by the user.
Test, monitor, and plan for stream recovery
- Run a test before the public launch. Confirm that continuous audio reaches the correct YouTube event and that the preview and watch page show what you expect.
- Check access on more than one device. YouTube recommends verifying that the stream is accessible from its watch page and on mobile devices.
- Monitor the actual output. Listen for silence, clipping, gaps, or unintended material; check the visual output if the stream includes video.
- Test recovery procedures. Decide who responds to a stopped player, failed encoder, or YouTube interruption, and test any backup or failover setup before relying on it.
- Verify local recordings. If you are recording a backup, confirm that the file is being created and growing during the test.

Plan the archive separately from the live broadcast
A continuous broadcast does not guarantee a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete recording, arrange a local recording backup. Alternatively, you can end and restart sessions before they exceed 12 hours, but that creates a viewer interruption and requires a clean restart of the encoder and event. - YouTube receives no signal: Check that the correct event’s server URL and stream key are entered in the encoder, that the encoder is running, and that the selected audio source is reaching it.
- The stream starts, then stops between playlists: Check the playlist’s end-of-list action and whether the player hands off continuously to the next list. YouTube cannot fix a gap created upstream by the player.
- The stream is interrupted after a music match: Review YouTube Studio for the restriction. Confirm that the relevant recording and composition are cleared for this use and territory, then request channel allowlisting from the rights owner where applicable.
- The live stream works but the archive is incomplete or missing: Check the session duration. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; use a local backup if a full archive matters.
- The broadcast continues but nobody can find or watch it: Check the event’s visibility and watch page, then test access from another device, including mobile.
