You Can See Everything, Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, looks likely to reward viewers who want an unconventional, psychologically probing film—not a fresh recap of the Theranos scandal. Festival critics have praised its access and surprises, while others find its central questions unresolved. That makes the early verdict promising but provisional: these are reviews from festival screenings, not evidence of broad audience consensus.
1. What is You Can See Everything about?
The documentary begins with an unusually intimate window into Holmes’s life: the crew filmed her and her family during the 34 days before she was due to report to prison. Associated Press reporting says the film was shot secretly over nearly three years. Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, opened their home to the filmmakers, giving the documentary access that a conventional account built around court records and interviews could not offer. Associated Press
That access is also part of the subject. The film follows not only Holmes but the filmmakers’ effort to make sense of what they are seeing. Nathan Fielder said after a New York Film Festival screening, “I am still struggling to this day to understand what I went through.” Associated Press
2. Is it a Theranos recap or something more experimental?
Early coverage describes a film that departs from the familiar rise-and-fall chronology. It includes reenactments and changes direction in its second half, becoming more self-conscious about the act of filming and the uncertainty surrounding its central figure. The Guardian calls the film more shocking and revealing than advertised; Fortune describes the experience as disorienting. The Guardian Fortune

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those formal turns appear to be a major part of its appeal, so it is worth going in with as little advance detail as possible. Reviews caution that surprise matters to the experience, and coverage reports that A24 asked reviewers not to reveal a major turn. This article likewise avoids describing it.
3. What makes the access compelling—and troubling?
Holmes’s and Evans’s willingness to let a film crew into their home creates proximity, but proximity does not settle how to interpret what the camera records. The Guardian emphasizes the film’s unexpected structure, while Vanity Fair reports that Fielder and Oppenheim struggled to arrive at a shared interpretation of what they witnessed. Vanity Fair

That tension helps explain why the film’s early reception is not uniformly celebratory. The Atlantic frames its central question as an emotional argument rather than a legal one, and its response stresses the difficulty of reaching a settled interpretation. The Atlantic The filmmakers’ uncertainty is a feature of the documentary’s perspective, not independent evidence about Holmes’s mental state or guilt.
4. Does the film change what the legal record says?
No. The film may complicate how viewers interpret Holmes as a person, but that ambiguity does not alter the distinct outcomes of her criminal case: she was convicted on investor-related fraud charges and acquitted on patient-related charges. It would be inaccurate to say she was convicted of defrauding patients. Associated Press

The documentary is therefore best approached as an inquiry into access, performance and interpretation—not as a replacement for the factual account of Theranos’s claims, failures and trial. For a fuller account of the company’s rise and collapse, John Carreyrou’s Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup is an optional source of background, not a companion required to follow the film. Los Angeles Times
5. How much does the hype tell us?
The teaser generated a conspicuous early burst of attention: ABC News reported that its one-minute, 17-second trailer passed two million YouTube views in its first 24 hours. That is a reported view count, not a measure of whether viewers liked the film. Associated Press coverage also described heavy interest at the New York Film Festival screening, but festival attention does not establish box-office performance or lasting impact. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does it live up to the hype?
For viewers drawn to formally adventurous documentaries and questions that resist easy answers, the early signs say yes: critics have singled out the access, surprise and unsettling effect. For anyone expecting a definitive explanation of Holmes or a standard Theranos timeline, the film seems to offer something different. Its festival response is intriguing, but the wider audience verdict remains open until the theatrical release and broader reception.
