For one Malayalam devotional video, add it to OBS as a Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. A conservative starting point for a landscape 720p stream is 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 3 Mbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 kbps. These settings work the same regardless of the language or devotional subject; stable results still depend on your computer and upload connection.
Set up a single video or a playlist in OBS
Repeat one video
- Create or select a scene in OBS.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source.
- Name the source if you wish, select the local video file, and enable Loop. OBS restarts the file after playback completes.
- Confirm the source is visible in the preview and that its audio appears in the audio mixer.
Rotate several videos
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose VLC Video.
- Add the video files to the source’s playlist and leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS enables this property by default.
- Check the preview and audio mixer, then test the playlist. OBS documents that a VLC source stops when it is not visible and restarts when visible, so check scene visibility if playback behavior changes during a broadcast.
Recommended OBS output settings for 720p30
Use these as a starting profile for a static landscape devotional loop, not as a guarantee of uninterrupted performance. YouTube’s live encoder guidance retrieved in 2026 lists 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30. Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain; the Live Control Room’s stream-health feedback can help you assess it.
| Setting | Starting value | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Canvas and output resolution | 1280Ă—720 (720p), landscape | In OBS, configure these under Settings → Video. Output resolution determines the stream’s output size. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Configure under Settings → Video. Higher frame rates can demand more from the computer. |
| Encoder | H.264 | YouTube’s cited bitrate recommendations for this profile are for H.264. |
| Rate control | CBR | Configure in Settings → Output. |
| Video bitrate | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | YouTube’s guidance retrieved in 2026 gives these values for 720p30 H.264. The higher recommendation is useful only if your connection and computer can sustain it. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC stereo, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube lists 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo audio. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS, when available | YouTube recommends RTMPS when it is available for your setup. |
Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and set up the livestream. Copy the stream key provided for that broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen.
- In OBS, set your output bitrate under Settings → Output, then set resolution and frame rate under Settings → Video.
- Start a private or otherwise suitable test stream before the intended broadcast. Check the Live Control Room’s stream health, OBS preview, audio levels, and whether the video loops as expected.
- Make the test representative: use the actual video and audio, and let it run long enough to check playback transitions and connection stability. OBS strongly recommends testing before a first livestream.
Choose settings around your connection and computer
The 720p30 profile is a practical baseline, not a requirement. A higher resolution or bitrate is not automatically better if the upload connection fluctuates or the computer struggles to encode. YouTube transcodes live streams for different output formats, and recommends testing with representative audio and motion. If stream health is poor, reduce the bitrate or choose a less demanding resolution or frame rate, then test again.
Troubleshoot looping and stream problems
- The video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- The video stops or restarts after changing scenes: Check whether the source is visible in the active scene. OBS documents VLC Video as stopping when hidden and restarting when visible.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or viewers see dropped frames: Your connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the selected bitrate. OBS recommends lowering video bitrate as a troubleshooting step; retest and monitor stream health. YouTube also recommends testing upload bitrate. Ethernet may be worth trying if a wired connection is available, but it cannot guarantee a fix for limited bandwidth or an ISP issue.
- The computer struggles at the selected output: Try a lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again. OBS notes that 60 fps can be more demanding than 30 fps.
- There is no sound: Check that the source audio is reaching the OBS audio mixer, that the relevant channel is not muted, and that audio is audible in a test stream.
Check rights before streaming devotional recordings
A devotional subject or Malayalam-language recording does not establish permission to livestream it. Music, performances, images, and video can have separate rights. Use material you own or have permission to stream, and confirm that the permission covers livestreaming on YouTube. The technical settings above cannot determine whether a particular recording is licensed or eligible for monetization.
