There is no confirmed universal way to buy a YouTube channel membership in the standard smart-TV app while watching a 24/7 livestream. YouTube says the Join button is not available on every platform. If it is missing on your TV, use the channel’s homepage or its /join page, or join through YouTube on a computer or mobile device. That is a limit of YouTube’s published guidance, not proof that every TV app blocks the purchase.
What to try while watching on your TV
- Look for Join on the channel or stream page. YouTube’s guidance notes that the button is not available on all platforms. If you do not see it, that alone does not show that the channel lacks memberships. YouTube Help: Join, change, or cancel a membership.
- If Join is absent, switch to a documented route. Open the creator’s channel homepage or go to the channel’s
/joinpage. YouTube also recommends trying YouTube on a computer or in the mobile app when platform availability is the issue. - Complete the membership checkout. Sign in, choose Join, review the membership level and its perks, provide payment details if prompted, and confirm the purchase. Memberships depend on the channel offering the program and on availability in the viewer’s country or region. YouTube lists 18 as the minimum age, or 19 in Korea and Algeria.
The channel’s /join address means its YouTube channel URL with /join added at the end. For example, open the channel page and append /join to its address.
TV Subscribe and paid Join are different
On a TV, Subscribe means following a channel. It is not a paid membership. A channel membership is a recurring paid program with creator-defined levels and perks, which may include badges, emoji, posts, or members-only content. YouTube’s TV-app instructions describe subscribing while watching; they do not establish that the same app checkout supports paid channel memberships. Do not confuse a creator’s channel membership with YouTube TV, a separate live-TV service. YouTube also documents smart-TV purchases of movies and TV shows, but those instructions do not establish support for buying creator memberships through the TV checkout. Does watching a 24/7 livestream change the answer?
YouTube documents a membership purchase during one particular live-viewing flow: the mobile app’s vertical live feed. In that feed, tap the dollar-sign icon in live chat, choose Memberships, then tap Join. YouTube says this purchase route is available on Android phones, not iPhones. It is not a general instruction for a standard horizontal livestream, and it does not confirm a smart-TV purchase flow. YouTube Help: Watch and interact with vertical live streams.
A viewer who joins during a livestream can trigger a green “New Member” message in live chat. That shows that joining can happen during live viewing, but it does not establish that checkout works on a TV. YouTube Help: Use and manage your channel membership benefits.

If the Join button is missing
- Open the channel homepage or its
/joinpage in a browser, or try YouTube on a computer or mobile device. - Check that the channel has enabled memberships. A channel subscription by itself does not mean memberships are available.
- Check regional and viewer eligibility: YouTube says memberships are available only in eligible countries or regions and specifies a minimum age of 18, or 19 in Korea and Algeria.
- If using the vertical live-feed method, use an Android phone; YouTube says that specific purchase route is not currently available on iPhones.
