Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can loop a cartoon file with FFmpeg, publish it to a compatible live-stream ingest endpoint, and use systemd to restart FFmpeg if the process fails. These are separate jobs: looping and pacing the media do not guarantee a healthy stream, and systemd cannot recover a machine that is powered off. The commands below are adaptable examples, not a tested configuration; confirm your installed FFmpeg build and the destination’s current ingest requirements first.
Before you start: confirm rights, media and destination
Use cartoons you are authorized to rebroadcast
Continuous public streaming is a separate use from owning or watching a video. A file purchase, subscription, or technical ability to stream does not establish permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm that you have rights for the specific cartoons, territory, and intended use before publishing. No particular cartoon catalogue or license is established here.
Identify your ingest requirements
The destination determines which endpoint, stream key, container, codecs, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate it accepts. This guide does not assume a particular platform or ingest specification. Consult the destination’s current official instructions, and use its exact endpoint and key. Never publish a real key in a world-readable service file, shell history, or logs.
Check the machine and files
- Use a stable Ubuntu host that remains powered on and connected to the network. systemd can supervise a process, not restore power or repair a dead host.
- Place the source video in a durable, readable location, such as
/srv/cartoon.mp4, and ensure the service account can read it. - Check the installed tools with
ffmpeg -versionand inspect the input streams withffprobe /srv/cartoon.mp4. Choose stream maps and encoding settings based on what the file contains and the destination accepts. - Confirm that the host has enough capacity for the selected encode and network upload. No hardware sizing, bandwidth minimum, or performance benchmark is established here.
Loop one file and publish it with FFmpeg
For a single file, -stream_loop -1 requests indefinite input looping. -re paces file input in real time for live-style output. Put input options before the corresponding -i. FFmpeg documents a file-to-RTMP pattern using -re; its protocols guide is at FFmpeg protocol documentation, and its complete documentation is at FFmpeg complete documentation.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.
- 【Generous Storage & Easy Expansion】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop computers comes with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM (higher frequency, lower power) for buttery‑smooth multitasking, and a 256GB M.2 SSD for blazing fast boot‑up, quick file transfers, and no more long loading screens. Two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑A ports (up to 10Gbps – 21x faster than USB 2.0) make data transfers and device expansion a breeze.
- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
This schematic command illustrates the workflow, not a universal ingest recipe:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /srv/cartoon.mp4
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a?
-c:v libx264 -c:a aac
-f flv "$RTMP_URL/$STREAM_KEY"
Here, -map 0:v:0 selects the first video stream, while -map 0:a? selects audio if present and does not fail solely because the input has no audio stream. The example requests H.264 video, AAC audio, and FLV output. It does not establish that those choices, or any unlisted bitrate or frame rate, are accepted by your destination. Verify the target’s current requirements and adapt the command accordingly.
Set RTMP_URL and STREAM_KEY through a restricted secret-handling method rather than embedding a real key in a broadly readable command or unit. The destination supplies the actual endpoint and key; do not substitute a guessed URL. The FFmpeg-user post from September 20, 2022 describes one user’s attempt with FFmpeg 4.4 on Ubuntu 22, but it is anecdotal rather than a validated recipe.

Make systemd supervise FFmpeg
Run FFmpeg as the service’s main process so systemd can observe its exit status. Ubuntu’s Noble systemd.service manual recommends Restart=on-failure for long-running services. The manual identifies its Noble package as systemd 255.4-1ubuntu8.17; paths and unit behavior may differ on other Ubuntu releases.
Build the unit for your host
Create a service unit with an ExecStart containing the command you have already validated. Set the correct service user, media path, and secret access. A modest RestartSec= delay can prevent immediate repeated retries. These are configuration decisions rather than a tested, copy-and-enable unit: exact file locations, dependencies, and secret delivery depend on your machine and Ubuntu version.
Before enabling a unit, validate it with systemd’s available verification tools on your installed release. Make sure the service account can read the media and credentials, and arrange for required filesystems and networking to be ready before FFmpeg starts. systemd restart attempts are subject to start-rate limiting; repeatedly crashing can therefore stop automatic retries until the limit is addressed. A deliberate stop through systemd does not trigger an automatic restart.

Enable and inspect the service
After installing and validating your unit, reload systemd’s unit definitions, enable the service for the intended boot behavior, and start it using the unit name you chose. Then inspect its state and logs:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now cartoon-stream.service
systemctl status cartoon-stream.service
journalctl -u cartoon-stream.service
Replace cartoon-stream.service with your actual unit name. A status of active only shows that the process is running; it does not prove viewers are receiving valid audio and video.
Understand recovery: FFmpeg output retries versus systemd restarts
Recovery mechanisms address different failure points and are complementary, not interchangeable.

| Mechanism | What it addresses | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg protocol reconnect options | Reconnect conditions for supported input protocols, as documented in FFmpeg protocol documentation. | Do not assume input reconnect switches restore a failed RTMP output connection. |
| FFmpeg FIFO muxer recovery | Retries temporary output failures while FFmpeg continues processing; FFmpeg’s example uses -attempt_recovery 1 -recovery_wait_time 1 in the FIFO muxer context. See FFmpeg complete documentation. |
It does not guarantee uninterrupted viewing or a successful new publishing session. |
systemd Restart=on-failure |
Restarts FFmpeg after a failure exit, subject to restart delay and start-rate limits. See the Ubuntu Noble manual. | A process restart typically begins a new publishing session and can cause an interruption; it cannot fix a dead host or destination outage. |
Diagnose the failure before choosing a response. Input loss, output-network loss, an FFmpeg crash, power or host failure, and a destination outage are not the same event. Neither FIFO recovery nor systemd promises no gap, no repeated content, or platform-side availability.
Verify the stream and troubleshoot failures
Check FFmpeg’s output, the service journal, the platform’s ingest status, and the actual player. Monitor CPU, disk, and network use as the stream runs. Treat each as an operational check; a running process alone is not evidence of a working live output.
- FFmpeg exits immediately: Read
journalctl -u cartoon-stream.serviceand the FFmpeg error output. Check the path, permissions, stream maps, installed encoders and muxer, and whether the command matches the installed build. - The service runs but the destination shows no valid stream: Confirm the exact endpoint and key, destination requirements, output format and codecs, and that the host can reach the endpoint. Check the destination’s own ingest status.
- Audio mapping fails on a silent cartoon: Confirm whether the file has an audio stream. The optional audio map
-map 0:a?avoids requiring one; adjust mapping if the input has a different stream layout. - FFmpeg keeps restarting: Inspect logs for the original failure, then review
RestartSec=and systemd start-rate limiting. Repeated restarts are symptoms to diagnose, not proof that recovery is working. - Viewers see a gap after a restart: A systemd restart can create a new publishing session. Check whether the destination accepted the new session and whether an applicable FFmpeg output-recovery approach is configured.
- The host is offline or powered down: systemd cannot run without the host. Restore the machine, power, network, and required mounts before expecting the service to resume.
Plan playlists and continuous schedules separately
The command above is for one looping file. A playlist or a schedule that is updated over time introduces additional media-selection and transition behavior. The documented sources here do not establish an authoritative current playlist recipe or guarantee seamless transitions between files, so do not assume that a single-file loop command provides either. Validate a playlist approach against your installed FFmpeg version and intended content before relying on it.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube stream without keeping an Ubuntu computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. Upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and supports looping and playlists. For India, UPI and cards are accepted; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo plans for the available billing periods, or start the free day with StreamNeo.
