To show the currently playing Hindi song and artist on a YouTube radio stream, add an on-screen text overlay to the video scene in your encoder. Connect that overlay to your station’s now-playing data—often through a text file or a browser-based layout—and test the actual output for accurate metadata, readable Devanagari, and timely updates. YouTube’s broadcast title and description are separate metadata; they do not automatically create a song label in the video.
Choose how the song information will appear
An encoder or scene overlay puts the song title and artist directly into the video sent to YouTube. You control its wording, position, appearance, and connection to playlist data. YouTube for Artists notes that an encoder offers more customization and control than a basic mobile or webcam stream: YouTube for Artists.
YouTube’s “Music in this video” section is different: it appears in a video description for some eligible videos, and access to the feature is limited to partners using Studio Content Manager. It is not a general control for an on-screen live now-playing label. YouTube explains the eligibility and metadata process in its Music in this video help page.
Prepare reliable Hindi track metadata
- Keep a canonical record for each track. Use the song title and artist spelling supplied by the rights holder or distributor. Preserve the official Devanagari spelling; if you want romanized text as well, put it on a separate line or in a separate metadata field rather than replacing the Hindi.
- Decide what the overlay should show. A concise title-and-artist label is easier to read than a full playlist entry. Check long titles and artist names from your own catalog before settling on a layout.
- Make the playlist or playback system the source of truth. The overlay should receive the currently playing track’s title and artist, not a manually maintained label that can fall out of sync. The way to connect playlist software to an overlay varies by setup; no particular integration is guaranteed here.
Add a text overlay in OBS
OBS documentation describes a Text source that can display text from a file, with controls for font and layout. A Browser source is another option for rendering a custom web layout. See the OBS Text Sources guide and OBS Browser Source guide for the available source types and settings.

- Create the text input. If your station automation can update a plain text file with the current title and artist, add a Text source in OBS and enable “Read from file.” Choose the file your automation updates. If you need a designed layout or custom data handling, add a Browser source and use a page your station controls.
- Position and style the label. Set its font, size, color, alignment, and position in the scene. A restrained lower-third with strong contrast is a useful starting point; keep it clear of other on-screen information and avoid overly long lines.
- Check that updates follow playback. Start or change tracks in the playlist system and watch the OBS preview. Confirm the displayed title and artist change at the right time, and that an empty or missing metadata field does not leave a misleading label.
- Test the rendered stream. Review the encoder output in YouTube’s preview or monitor feed, or rehearse privately or unlisted before the public stream. YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle guidance covers the test-before-live workflow.
Make Devanagari legible on real screens
Choose a font installed on the machine that runs the encoder and preview actual examples from your catalog. Include conjunct letters and vowel marks in the test: a font that displays basic Hindi text does not by itself prove every glyph will shape and render correctly in your operating system or scene.
- Check the smallest likely viewing size, including a phone-sized preview.
- Use sufficient contrast against changing video backgrounds; a solid or translucent backing can help if the scene is busy.
- Allow enough screen time for viewers to read the label, especially when titles are long.
- Check line breaks and alignment after a track changes, not only with one sample string.
OBS documents font and layout controls, but its reviewed documentation does not certify particular Devanagari fonts or their shaping behavior across operating systems. Test on the actual streaming computer and in the actual scene before relying on a font choice.

Keep on-screen labels separate from YouTube metadata and credits
The text burned into the live video is not the same as the YouTube broadcast title or description. The YouTube Live API documents broadcast and stream resources and their metadata fields, but those fields do not turn into a live on-screen track label. For a visible now-playing overlay, the encoder scene must render the text.
YouTube may add a “Music in this video” section to some videos using identification and rights-holder metadata. YouTube says that feature is available only to partners using Studio Content Manager. If music credits or artwork are wrong or incomplete, its help page advises artists to contact their label, distributor, publisher, or collection society so metadata can be updated; examples of identifiers include ISRC, ISWC, UPC, and ISNI. That description feature is not a substitute for your overlay.

Clear the music before you stream
A visible credit is not permission to broadcast a recording. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; a match can lead to placeholder imagery, interruption, or termination. YouTube also warns that even a licensed stream can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to the Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s copyright issues with live streams guidance and coordinate with the label or distributor so your permission covers the proposed stream and territories. YouTube for Artists likewise recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a livestream.
