Keep that source enabled in every scene or program state used during the broadcast, then confirm it appears in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. A YouTube channel watermark is a separate feature; for a logo that is part of the actual stream picture, use an encoder overlay.
Add the logo to the video sent to YouTube
- Prepare the artwork. Use a clean logo image sized appropriately for the stream frame. A transparent background is usually helpful because it lets the underlying video show through; this is a production recommendation, not a YouTube requirement.
- Add it in the encoder. In the software or hardware encoder, add the logo as an image or graphic source and position and size it over the video canvas. The encoder is where the logo becomes part of the outgoing picture. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes encoders as supporting overlays and graphics.
- Check every scene. If the broadcast changes scenes, playlists, or visual states, make sure the logo source remains enabled wherever it should appear. Inspect transitions and scheduled changes rather than checking only the opening scene.
- Connect to the YouTube stream. Use the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio to connect the encoder. The stream key authorizes the encoder to send the feed, so treat it like a password: do not publish it, display it on screen, or share it unnecessarily. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Preview before going live. Open the Live Control Room preview and check that the logo is visible in the encoded picture at the intended size and position. YouTube recommends previewing the stream and checking availability and audio/video quality before starting. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Encoder overlay or YouTube video watermark?
These are different ways to display branding. An encoder overlay is composed into the video feed before it reaches YouTube. A channel video watermark is configured as channel branding and has its own display rules. YouTube documents watermark options for the end of a video, a custom start time, or the entire video, along with file and size requirements. Its help page also notes display limitations: the watermark is available in landscape view on computers and mobile devices, does not appear on custom chromeless players or Adobe Flash, and is unavailable on videos set as made for kids. If the logo needs to be part of the picture delivered by the encoder, use the overlay. A watermark can provide additional channel branding, but it is not the same as an image source in the broadcast composition.
Make the 24/7 picture dependable
Test the full program, not just the opening frame
Before leaving a stream unattended, check the outgoing preview and watch page, scene changes, and any scheduled program changes. Confirm the logo remains visible after changing the program or restarting the encoder. YouTube advises setting up encoders ahead of an event, previewing the output, confirming stream availability, and monitoring audio and video quality. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

Allow upload bandwidth headroom
A local encoder depends on the station’s upload connection staying available. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving about 20% upload bandwidth beyond the stream bitrate. This is YouTube Help’s recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions or a measured requirement for every station. Test the connection and avoid using all available upload capacity for the stream.
Choose software or hardware based on the whole operation
YouTube supports software encoders as well as hardware encoders. A dedicated hardware encoder can be an option for a higher-production or unattended setup, but it is not required just to place a logo on the stream. Compare the choices based on whether the station already has a suitable computer, the expected uptime and restart recovery, input and output needs, monitoring and failover, and acquisition and operating costs. YouTube’s encoder guidance recognizes both routes and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events.

If the station is streaming a prerecorded loop
A prerecorded visual loop can be sent as a live stream through a suitable 24/7 workflow. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos; that listing does not establish that every service fits every station’s audio, rights, or operational needs. Confirm the service’s current capabilities and terms for your particular workflow. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
For any prerecorded programming, make sure the station has the rights needed for the material and that its use complies with YouTube’s policies. A logo overlay does not change the rights status of the music, video, or other content being streamed.

Troubleshooting: when the logo disappears
- It is missing after a scene change: The logo source may not be enabled in the new scene. Add or enable it in each scene where it should appear, then test the transition in the preview.
- It appears in the encoder but not the YouTube preview: Check that the correct encoder output is being sent to the active YouTube stream, then inspect the Live Control Room preview again before starting.
- It vanishes after a restart or program change: Recheck the encoder’s saved scene or program state and run through the full sequence, including restart and scheduled changes, before relying on continuous operation.
- The stream stops or becomes unstable: Check encoder status, source visibility, network and power. For a local setup, verify that upload capacity has headroom and test the complete setup. YouTube recommends roughly 20% upload headroom beyond the stream bitrate; see its streaming tips.
- The channel watermark does not show where expected: Check YouTube’s watermark display conditions, including landscape viewing, player type, and whether the video is marked made for kids. For a mark that is part of the broadcast image, use the encoder overlay instead; see YouTube’s watermark instructions.
