To stream a jazz internet radio station to YouTube with a changing song display, you need two connected paths: an encoder that sends the station’s audio to a YouTube live broadcast, and an on-screen overlay that reads the station’s current artist and track information. YouTube’s broadcast title and description are event-level details, not a live per-song display.
Before you start: confirm music rights
Do not assume that rights for ordinary radio transmission also cover a YouTube simulcast. Confirm with the relevant rights holders or distributor that your permissions cover YouTube live transmission, the territories in which viewers may watch, and any recording or archived replay of the broadcast.
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A licence alone may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Confirm any required allowlisting directly with the rights holder or distributor before going live.
YouTube’s live Content ID matching is not a substitute for music rights. YouTube describes it as available only to certain partners using Studio Content Manager, with requirements that include a proven Content ID record, time-sensitive live content, global rights, and exclusive ownership. It is not a workaround for a station that lacks permission to stream its catalogue.

How the YouTube broadcast and track display fit together
YouTube separates the live event from the incoming media. In its Live Streaming API, a liveBroadcast describes the event, with fields such as title, description, schedule, status, and recording or archive settings. A liveStream represents the audio-video feed sent to YouTube, and a broadcast is associated with a stream. A broadcast corresponds to one YouTube video.
The reviewed LiveBroadcasts reference documents broadcast-level metadata, not a field for changing the player’s song title every time the station changes tracks. To show live track metadata, render the artist and title visibly in the video using a separate overlay that receives the station’s now-playing data.

Set up the audio and metadata paths
1. Identify the station’s audio output
Find out how your radio automation or hosting system exposes the audio: it may be available as a local audio input, a file or device, or a network stream. Check the exact format and ingest route supported by your encoder before building the broadcast. Do not assume that any Icecast, SHOUTcast, or other radio URL can be added directly to an encoder.
OBS is one possible encoding and composition tool, but its Media Sources documentation lists local audio file types such as MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV; that documentation does not establish compatibility with every online radio stream or hosting setup. If the station audio is network-only, confirm a supported route for that particular feed—for example, a station-provided local output or a compatible input path—before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.

2. Create the YouTube live event
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and set its event-level title, description, schedule, and recording preferences as needed. Use the broadcast’s stream configuration to connect the encoder’s outgoing feed to the intended event. You can also build this event/feed relationship through the Live Streaming API; the API overview explains the distinct roles of liveBroadcasts and liveStreams.
Keep the event title and description focused on the station or program. They identify the broadcast; they will not automatically change to the current jazz track.

3. Make the current artist and title available to an overlay
Locate the station’s authoritative now-playing source, such as its automation system’s metadata output or a metadata endpoint. The overlay needs a reliable way to read the current artist and track title from that source. The exact connection depends on the station’s software and feed; the available platform documentation does not establish one universal, ready-made OBS integration.
In your encoder scene, add a browser-based or equivalent visual element that displays those values over the station video. Include a stable fallback, such as the station name, for moments when metadata is blank or unavailable. This is text rendered into the picture, not a YouTube per-song metadata update.

4. Preview transitions and start the broadcast
- Confirm that the selected input delivers the station audio to the encoder.
- Check that the overlay reads the same artist and title shown by the station’s now-playing source.
- Test a track change, a missing metadata value, a long title, and a temporary metadata-source failure. Make sure the display remains legible and falls back sensibly.
- Preview the YouTube event to verify that both audio and overlay reach the correct broadcast.
- Start the stream and monitor YouTube Studio for stream status and any content-matching interruption.
Common problems and what to check
