YouTube’s Loop button repeats a video or playlist for someone watching; it does not turn that video into a repeating Live broadcast. To show a prerecorded vacation rental walkthrough as a YouTube Live stream, set the video or playlist to repeat in an encoder or playback source, then send that feed to YouTube through Live Control Room. The repeat setting depends on the encoder you choose—YouTube’s general Live setup does not provide a universal loop toggle.

Can you loop a video on YouTube Live?

Not with the ordinary watch-page Loop control. YouTube describes that control as a way to repeat a video or playlist during playback. A Live broadcast follows a separate workflow: an encoder sends a video feed to YouTube. The repeat therefore has to happen in the source or encoder before the feed reaches YouTube.

YouTube does not document one universal procedure for looping a prerecorded file in every encoder. Choose software or hardware that supports repeating a file or playlist, and follow that product’s current instructions for its repeat setting. Do not assume a YouTube Studio control will loop the incoming Live feed.

What you need before setting up the stream

  • A recorded walkthrough that you have the right to stream, and an encoder or playback source that can repeat the file or playlist.
  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; its guidance sets a minimum age of 16 to livestream.
  • A reliable upload connection sized for your chosen stream bitrate, plus enough headroom for fluctuations.
  • Permission to show the property and any people, private areas, or other material captured in the recording. Requirements for filming occupants, guests, neighboring properties, or private spaces depend on the property and local law; YouTube’s general Live setup instructions do not settle those questions.

If this is the first time the channel is enabled for Live, activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube. Start setup well before you intend to publish the walkthrough.

How to repeat a prerecorded walkthrough in a YouTube Live stream

  1. Open YouTube Studio and create the broadcast. Go to Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder workflow. The exact labels may vary with YouTube’s interface.
  2. Set the repeat in your encoder or playback source. Select the walkthrough file or playlist, then enable repeat/loop using that encoder’s own controls. YouTube’s general Live instructions do not specify the clicks for third-party encoders, so confirm the behavior in the encoder’s documentation and test it before relying on it.
  3. Copy the ingest details from YouTube. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access may be able to send a broadcast to your stream. Do not share or publish it.
  4. Choose compatible video and connection settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion and supports H.264 among its video codecs. Match the encoder’s output to YouTube’s supported settings and your tested upload capacity; YouTube transcodes streams for playback on different devices, but a higher output resolution is not guaranteed to remain stable on every network.
  5. Preview and test before going public. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and correct framing. Test playback on the watch page and a mobile device, and check that the source repeats as intended. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the stream.
  6. Start and monitor the broadcast. Once the feed is arriving correctly, take the stream live in Live Control Room if prompted by your workflow. Keep an eye on the preview and connection status while it runs; stop the broadcast through the encoder/YouTube workflow when the showing is over.

Encoder settings and upload bandwidth

Use the encoder’s settings that YouTube supports, then test the complete path from file playback to the audience-facing watch page. YouTube’s current help guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, so select the appropriate value from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance rather than choosing a bitrate solely because the file has a particular resolution.

Your connection needs to sustain the full stream bitrate, including audio. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Run an upload speed test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast and monitor for interruptions; a speed-test result is not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable for the whole stream.

Copyright, privacy, and rental footage

YouTube scans Live streams for third-party material. A match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or end it. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist for the material to play without interruption.

Use footage and audio you are entitled to stream. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to represent that it has the necessary rights for the live content, including applicable music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and Community Guidelines. Remove background music you do not control or obtain the necessary rights before broadcasting. For people, neighboring spaces, and private areas visible in a rental walkthrough, check the permissions and local requirements that apply to that property rather than assuming one rule covers every location.

Troubleshooting a looping Live walkthrough

  • The stream ends instead of repeating: The repeat setting may not be enabled in the source, or the encoder may not support repeating that file or playlist. Check the encoder’s own instructions and test a complete playback cycle before scheduling the broadcast.
  • Live Control Room shows no incoming video: Confirm the encoder is using the stream URL and current key copied from the correct YouTube broadcast, then check that the encoder is actually sending. Keep the key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
  • The preview buffers or disconnects: The available upload bandwidth may not sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce output demands to a supported setting that your connection can handle, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test again.
  • The picture or sound is wrong: Check the encoder’s selected source, output codec and audio routing, then verify the result in Live Control Room and on the watch page before going public.
  • The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Review the material being played and its rights status. Remove uncleared content; if the material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted.

Ending and archiving the broadcast

Stop the broadcast using the encoder and YouTube workflow when the walkthrough is finished. YouTube says Live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat the archive as a replacement for checking the recording and permissions before the stream begins.
