Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can run a 24/7 Punjabi Sufi music livestream by sending a continuous audio-and-visual program from a Linux VPS to YouTube through an encoder connection, usually RTMPS. The VPS keeps the encoder online when your home computer is off, but it does not grant music rights or guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. First clear the recordings and artwork, activate and test YouTube livestreaming, then configure and monitor an encoder that your chosen Linux distribution and FFmpeg version support.
1. Confirm that the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. For a first livestream, YouTube for Artists recommends enabling the feature at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. Check that Live Control Room access is available well ahead of launch; do not leave activation until the night the channel is due to go live.
In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow or Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and obtain its ingest details and stream key. The exact labels can change, so follow the current Studio prompts. Use the encoder workflow for a custom continuous program sent from your VPS.
Protect the stream key
- Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Enter it only in the encoder configuration or secret store used by the VPS. Do not publish it in a tutorial, paste it into public support posts, or expose it in scripts and logs.
- If it is disclosed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before the next broadcast.
2. Clear every recording and visual before building the stream
Punjabi Sufi is a musical tradition, not a rights category. A recording may involve separate rights in the composition and in the particular sound recording. Having a copy, a subscription, or permission to listen does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live.
#1 Best Overall
For each track, get permission that covers the use you actually plan: livestreaming, relevant territories, the license term, and whether YouTube may keep an archive or video-on-demand copy afterward. Keep written licenses and the rights owners’ contact details accessible to whoever manages the channel. YouTube’s Terms do not transfer rights to third-party material simply because it is available through the service; do not use YouTube as the source for audio you rebroadcast.
Plan for Content ID, not just the license
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can prompt a warning, interruption, or termination. Even when you have a license, YouTube advises asking the applicable rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; permission alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Contact the label, distributor, or other relevant rightsholder before launch. Confirm the channel has been allowlisted, and ask what to do if a match still appears. A VPS, encoder setting, or change of ingest protocol cannot resolve a rights dispute or override YouTube’s copyright systems.

Clear the artwork too
If the broadcast uses an album cover, artist photo, lyrics, animation, or a looping visual, make sure you have documented permission for that use as well. A still image may be technically simple, but its simplicity does not make it free to reuse.
3. Choose the program and the VPS around the actual workload
Decide whether the channel will play a prepared audiovisual loop, a sequence of videos, or audio with a static or low-motion visual. Prepare the files in advance and verify that the playlist order, transitions, durations, and artwork are intentional. Check the audio from beginning to end for silence, clipping, abrupt cuts, or an accidental gap that would make the broadcast appear broken.
For a music-first channel, a simple visual is often easier to encode and monitor than complex real-time effects. A pre-rendered loop and a live-generated visual can have different CPU and memory demands, so size the VPS for the method you actually use and observe its resource use under sustained load. There is no universal CPU or RAM minimum established here for an FFmpeg-only VPS.

Check the provider’s network terms and capacity
- Confirm that the VPS provider permits the planned continuous streaming traffic, and check its bandwidth, egress, and fair-use terms.
- Check sustained outbound capacity, not just a brief headline speed test. The connection must keep up with the encoder’s bitrate for long periods.
- Leave headroom for network variation and other VPS traffic. If the stream drops frames, reduce the output bitrate or resolution to a level the connection can sustain, then test again.
- Consider how you will access logs, receive alerts, and recover if the VPS or its network becomes unavailable. A cloud server removes dependence on a home PC, but it is not itself an availability guarantee.
4. Configure the encoder for YouTube ingest
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure form of RTMP, for conventional encoder streaming. Use a protocol supported by both YouTube’s current ingest setup and the encoder in your selected Linux stack. HLS is a separate and more involved route: it uses HTTPS media playlists and segments, requires particular media packaging, and generally has higher latency than RTMP- or WebRTC-based ingest. Unless you have a reason to build an HLS workflow, conventional RTMPS is the simpler starting point.
Use a tested output profile, not a guessed maximum
YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS workflows. It recommends constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and up to 60 frames per second. Its advanced recommendations include stereo audio at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz stereo sample rate. Check the current YouTube encoder settings before launch because platform guidance can change.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Example output profile | YouTube H.264 video recommendation | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | Use as a starting point only if this is the actual output profile and the VPS can sustain it. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | Use for this profile only when the source and connection can support it reliably. |
Those are YouTube recommendations for the stated H.264 profiles, not a rule that every music stream must use those rates. The encoder’s video resolution and frame rate determine which guidance applies. Choose a modest, consistent visual format and test it at the selected bitrate instead of increasing bitrate without a reason. Audio-focused content does not make the video settings irrelevant: the encoder still sends a video stream if the broadcast includes artwork.

Build the continuous process for your Linux version
The exact FFmpeg invocation, playlist-loop behavior, package name, and service-manager configuration depend on the installed FFmpeg build, codecs, file formats, and Linux distribution. A command or systemd unit that works on one combination should not be treated as a verified copy-and-paste recipe for another. Before publishing, verify the current FFmpeg and distribution documentation for the actual host.
- Install or select an encoder build that supports the chosen input formats, codecs, and RTMPS output. Record the distribution and FFmpeg version used.
- Configure the encoder to read only the prepared, rights-cleared program and send continuous output to the ingest address and stream key from YouTube Studio.
- Choose and document how the program repeats or advances between files. Test the playlist’s end-of-file behavior, audio continuity, and visual output rather than assuming that a file list will loop as intended.
- Run the encoder under the Linux distribution’s supported process supervisor. Configure logs and an intentional restart policy for encoder-process failure, and confirm what happens after a reboot. A supervisor restart is not the same thing as recovery from a YouTube-side disconnect.
- Keep configuration and credentials protected, and make sure logs do not print the stream key. Update the encoder or operating system only through a maintenance process that includes a post-update stream test.
5. Test before making the channel public
Run an unlisted test using representative tracks and visuals. Confirm that the audio remains clean, the picture is stable, the playlist behaves as expected, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream. YouTube for Artists recommends testing before a planned livestream; a test also gives you time to catch ingest or rights problems without disrupting a public schedule.
- Confirm Live Control Room receives the intended resolution, frame rate, and audio.
- Watch the stream health messages and encoder connection indicators throughout the test, not only at startup.
- Check the VPS’s outbound network and system load while the program is running.
- Test the actual recovery plan: restart the encoder process, and separately determine what happens if the VPS reboots or its connection fails.
- Ask rights holders to confirm Content ID allowlisting before switching to a public, continuous broadcast.
OBS’s troubleshooting guidance identifies unstable or insufficient network connectivity as a cause of dropped frames. If the encoder reports increasing dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator, compare the configured bitrate with sustained VPS outbound capacity. Lower bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot reliably sustain the chosen profile, then repeat the test and check YouTube’s stream health.

6. Operate the channel as a service, not a one-time upload
A 24/7 stream needs an owner who can notice and respond to problems. Check stream health and encoder status on a schedule, review logs for repeated failures, and establish alerts or an on-call routine appropriate to the channel. Recheck the stream after changing playlists, files, codecs, packages, or network settings. Keep a written recovery checklist and ensure someone authorized can rotate the stream key if necessary.
Plan for two distinct failure types. If the encoder process stops, the Linux supervisor may be configured to restart it, but that behavior must be tested on the chosen system. If YouTube drops the stream or the ingest connection is interrupted, determine whether the encoder reconnects correctly and whether YouTube accepts the resumed broadcast. Do not assume a generic Linux restart policy solves both cases.
YouTube for Artists says eligible creators may use Shopping features, Supers, and ads on live streams, subject to platform eligibility and feature availability. Check the channel’s current eligibility and the features actually offered in YouTube Studio; monetization access is separate from the technical ability to keep an encoder running.
