Start by checking OBS’s encoder: if a compatible hardware encoder is available, try it before changing the rest of your setup. Then simplify the scene, reduce output resolution or frame rate only if needed, and test the actual stream while monitoring OBS and YouTube stream health. No preset can guarantee 24/7 stability; the right settings depend on your hardware, scene, and upload connection.
1. Check OBS’s encoder before changing quality
In OBS, open Settings → Output and check the encoder options for your streaming output. If a compatible hardware encoder is available, select it and test. OBS generally recommends hardware encoding for performance because encoding work moves from the CPU to a specialized component in the GPU. Available options depend on the computer, operating system, and hardware; documented examples include NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF, Intel Quick Sync, and Apple VideoToolbox.
Make sure the relevant graphics drivers are current, then confirm the encoder actually appears in OBS’s list. Check your existing graphics card or integrated graphics before considering new hardware. OBS notes that newer hardware encoders can provide good quality with little performance impact, while older generations may produce lower quality at the same bitrate.
If no suitable hardware encoder is available
Use x264, OBS’s CPU-based software encoder, and try a lower-CPU preset such as ultrafast or superfast. These presets reduce CPU demand by trading away compression efficiency, so the image may look worse at the same bitrate. Judge the result with your actual artwork, movement, and bitrate rather than assuming a preset is universally best. OBS recommends testing on the target system.

2. Simplify the music scene
A stream showing cover art or a restrained visualizer often does not need a complicated scene. Start with the elements that must be on screen, then remove avoidable rendering work:
- Use a still image source for static artwork rather than a needlessly large media file.
- Remove browser sources, filters, and other elements that are not needed. Multiple full-canvas browser sources can add unnecessary work.
- Use source dimensions appropriate to the displayed result; avoid oversized assets when smaller ones will do.
- Apply any necessary filter to the smallest relevant source rather than the entire scene.
- Close or remove sources that are not in use. OBS warns that some hidden sources can still consume resources.
Keep the audio chain in the test, too. A scene that performs well without its real audio sources and filters may behave differently during the broadcast.

3. Reduce output demands in measured steps
If OBS still shows performance trouble after you check the encoder and scene, lower the output resolution as appropriate for the visuals and audience. If that is not enough, reduce the frame rate. OBS suggests trying 30 fps when 60 fps cannot be sustained. Static album art usually does not need 60 fps; that is a practical inference from the content, not a guarantee that a particular setting will fix your system.
Changing the base canvas is more disruptive than reducing output demands: source positions and artwork may need to be adjusted. Leave the canvas alone unless GPU resources are especially constrained or you have a clear reason to change it.

Match YouTube’s ingest settings to the connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), RTMP or RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio. Follow YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its 2026 guidance recommends 10 Mbps H.264 ingest bitrate for 1080p30. That figure is a video ingest recommendation, not a CPU target. If your upload connection cannot reliably sustain the chosen bitrate, select a lower resolution or bitrate rather than treating the recommendation as mandatory for every connection.
For a long-running stream, assess the actual upload connection and YouTube’s stream health, not just the nominal speed reported by an internet plan. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.

4. Test the real setup before relying on it
- Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point. Treat its result as a baseline, not proof that the stream will remain stable.
- Run the actual scene and audio. Include the visualizer, media, filters, and sources that will be present in the broadcast.
- Watch OBS performance indicators. Check whether the trouble remains after each change; change one major setting at a time so you can identify what helped.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room stream health. Confirm that the incoming stream is healthy at the chosen quality and bitrate.
- Test for the conditions you expect to run. OBS says requirements vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Without your computer specifications and scene, no exact CPU percentage or universal target can be supplied.
For 24/7 operation, plan separately for power, cooling, internet continuity, restart and recovery, and replay retention at the installation you will use. The official guidance cited here does not establish a special India-specific CPU setting, power specification, or network requirement; test the connection and equipment at the actual location.

YouTube’s encoder workflow says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream will be automatically archived under that rule. If you want a replay, plan a separate archive workflow rather than relying on an automatic archive for the full continuous broadcast.
