You can install OBS Studio on Ubuntu with the OBS Project’s PPA and apt commands, then connect it to YouTube using a stream URL and key. That gets you broadcasting from your own computer; it does not make a local setup fail-proof or guarantee a complete 24-hour replay. The steps below cover installation, YouTube setup, stream settings, reliability checks, and the archive limitation to plan around.
Before you install: check Ubuntu and YouTube eligibility
OBS’s official Linux installation page, dated August 26, 2021, says its PPA instructions apply to Ubuntu 18.04 or newer. Because that page is older, check the current instructions against your exact Ubuntu release before running them: OBS Project’s Linux Installation page.
You also need a YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. Consult YouTube’s encoder guide for the current eligibility and setup flow.
Install OBS Studio on Ubuntu
Open Terminal and run the commands shown on the OBS Project installation page:

Add the OBS Studio PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:obsproject/obs-studio -
Install OBS Studio:
sudo apt install obs-studio
Follow any prompts in Terminal. If the PPA or package is unavailable for your Ubuntu release, do not assume these older instructions are suitable; check OBS’s current Linux installation guidance for an option supported on your release.
Check that your computer can handle the stream
OBS lists an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and the X Window System or Wayland among its basic Linux requirements. Meeting those minimums does not guarantee smooth streaming. The encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity all affect performance. Review OBS’s system requirements, then test the actual scenes and settings you plan to use.
Connect OBS to your YouTube channel

Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Confirm the channel can stream, then create or select a live stream. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the current flow.

Copy the stream URL and stream key displayed for the broadcast.

In OBS, open the stream settings, choose YouTube as the service if available, and enter the stream URL and key. If OBS presents a service connection flow instead, follow its prompts and verify that the selected stream and account are correct.

Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it or show it in a recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Start a private or otherwise suitable test broadcast before relying on the setup for a public or unattended stream. Check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room.

Set the encoder for YouTube
For ordinary SDR RTMP or RTMPS streaming, use YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance as the final reference; its recommended bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate. These are not one-size-fits-all settings.

Video encoder: H.264.

Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).

Keyframe interval: two seconds is recommended; do not exceed four seconds.

Frame rate: YouTube’s guidance supports up to 60 fps; choose a rate your system and upload connection can sustain.

Audio: AAC or MP3 is listed in YouTube’s guidance. Check the current page for any other format-specific requirements.

Bitrate and resolution: select the values for your intended resolution and frame rate from YouTube’s current table. Avoid choosing a bitrate solely because it is a common preset.
OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point after installation, but it cannot prove a 24/7 setup is reliable. Test with the actual scene, audio, movement, encoder, and upload connection.
Plan for a stable 24/7 stream from India
There is no single Indian ISP or upload-speed tier established as sufficient for every setup. Test the upload connection where the computer will run, at the times it will stream, and account for other people and devices sharing it. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate; that is general guidance, not an India-specific broadband guarantee. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
A continuous local stream depends on the Ubuntu computer, OBS, the source media and the internet connection all continuing to work. Before leaving it unattended, test the complete chain:

Confirm the computer remains powered on and does not suspend or shut down during the planned stream.

Verify that OBS opens with the right scene and source, and establish a practical way to check or restart it if the application stops.

Check that source media continues as intended and that audio and video remain present.

Test upload stability and watch Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators during a representative broadcast.

Decide how you will respond to a power, network, or application interruption. Do not assume a local setup will automatically recover from each failure.

If the recording matters, plan a local recording as well as the YouTube broadcast.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour live stream?
Do not count on a complete YouTube replay of a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a durable copy, use local recording or plan a deliberate session and restart strategy; the archive guidance does not establish one preferred procedure for repeated continuous sessions. Common problems and fixes

YouTube does not accept the stream key: Confirm the key belongs to the selected broadcast and channel, then replace it in OBS if you reset it. Keep the key private.

The channel cannot go live yet: Check channel verification and live-stream eligibility. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.

Video stutters or the stream disconnects: Check YouTube’s stream-health details, reduce the bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain them, and leave the recommended upload headroom. Test at the actual streaming location and time.

OBS drops frames or the computer struggles: Reduce scene complexity, resolution, or frame rate and test again. OBS’s basic system requirements are not a performance guarantee for every encoding workload.

The replay is missing or incomplete: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use a local recording when preserving the full program is important.

The stream stops while unattended: Check power, sleep settings, OBS status, source continuity, and network stability. Build and test a recovery procedure; do not assume OBS or YouTube will restore every interruption automatically.
