Why Does a 24/7 Indian Music YouTube Stream Keep Ending After Several Hours?

A stream ending after several hours is not proof of a YouTube 12-hour limit. Separate archive and DVR behavior from a real broadcast interruption, then check playback, encoder, and connectivity.

A YouTube music livestream ending after several hours is not, by itself, evidence that YouTube imposes a universal time limit. YouTube’s 12-hour guidance concerns whether a stream is archived and whether viewers can rewind—not a rule that the broadcast must stop. To identify why a particular stream ended, check whether it stopped for everyone, then inspect the encoder and network.

What YouTube’s 12-hour guidance actually means

YouTube distinguishes between a broadcast ending and what happens to it afterward. Its archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. That is a caveat about saving the stream, not a stated 12-hour termination limit. YouTube’s archive guidance does not establish that every longer livestream will end.

DVR is separate again: YouTube says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That affects viewers’ ability to move backward through a live broadcast; it does not explain why the live feed stopped. YouTube’s DVR guidance describes this playback limitation.

First determine whether the broadcast really ended

A viewer’s app, connection, or playback session can stop showing a stream even when the channel is still live. Before diagnosing the creator’s setup or blaming YouTube, open the channel’s live page from another device or connection and check whether other viewers can still watch. If the broadcast remains live elsewhere, the issue may be limited to that viewer’s playback session; the official guidance cited here does not diagnose a specific viewer-side failure.

If the channel’s live page also shows that the broadcast ended, note the time and look for relevant encoder status, network events, or notices in YouTube Studio. Without those details, no particular cause can be established for an unnamed Indian music channel.

Check the encoder and network path

See whether the encoder stopped sending

The encoder sends the live feed to YouTube. Check whether it is still running, whether it reports an error, and whether it stopped sending content around the time the broadcast ended. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the encoder workflow and says to stop sending content from the encoder to end the stream. A stopped encoder or interrupted feed is therefore a practical place to investigate, not a confirmed explanation in any particular case.

Review upload connectivity and bandwidth

A disruption between the encoder and YouTube can break the stream. YouTube puts it plainly in its streaming tips: “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Review the network path and available upload bandwidth, allowing headroom rather than running at the connection’s full capacity. A reliable connection reduces a known risk; it cannot prove why a past stream ended or guarantee that it will never happen again.

Test a configured backup encoder

If the channel uses a backup encoder, test the failover deliberately before relying on it for a long event. YouTube recommends stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable during a test, then checking that playback rolls over to the backup. Confirm that the backup feed is configured and that the handoff works as expected; having backup equipment alone does not show that it will take over successfully.

Protect the recording separately from the live broadcast

Keep a local recording if the music stream needs a copy independent of YouTube’s archive. Check during the event that the recording file is growing, and verify its integrity afterward. YouTube includes those checks in its streaming tips. A local file can protect the recording, but it does not keep the live broadcast online.

Afterward, assess archive availability and DVR rewind as separate issues. A stream may not be captured as an archive, or viewers may have limited rewind, without either fact explaining why the broadcast itself ended.
