You can run a continuous kirtan stream by using OBS Studio on a Windows mini PC to send a looping visual and rights-cleared audio to YouTube Live. The mini PC, OBS, and a stable internet connection must stay running; YouTube may not archive a single stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so plan shorter sessions and keep a local recording if the replay matters.
Before you set up the stream
Check that the YouTube channel can livestream before configuring OBS. YouTube requires a verified channel with livestreaming enabled and no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance also requires livestreamers to be at least 16. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of your planned launch.
Decide what you will broadcast: the kirtan recording, its performance, and any visual material must all be cleared for livestream use. Devotional subject matter, attribution, or a license by itself does not guarantee that YouTube’s automated checks will leave a stream uninterrupted.
Prepare the audio and visual loop in OBS
Install OBS Studio and create a scene with the intended audio and a still image or looping visual. A static image is sufficient for a radio-style devotional stream; a camera and motion graphics are optional. OBS is free and open-source. The exact media-source loop controls depend on the OBS version you have installed, so confirm the source’s playback and looping behavior in that version and test it before going live.

Listen through the full setup before publishing. Check that the audio is audible and continuous, and that the image is either intentionally static or the visual loop repeats as intended. Make sure the OBS scene contains only material cleared for the broadcast.
Create the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the YouTube stream URL and key. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Check auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube provides these settings for encoder sessions. Confirm they match your plan, because they determine whether the broadcast starts or ends automatically as the encoder connects or disconnects.
- Start the OBS encoder and preview the feed. Confirm the signal reaches YouTube’s Live Control Room and the watch page before you make the stream public.
YouTube describes the stream key as the address and password the encoder uses to send its feed. Keep it private, and use the key belonging to the intended broadcast.

Set the mini PC and network up for continuous operation
Keep Windows and OBS running
Configure the mini PC so that it does not sleep during the planned broadcast. Windows setting names vary by version and device, so check the power settings on your own Windows 10 or 11 installation rather than relying on a universal click path. Arrange operating-system updates and planned restarts for a maintenance window. Do not assume that OBS will relaunch after a reboot, restore the right scene, and restart the correct YouTube broadcast unattended; test any restart procedure you depend on.
Use a stable connection and leave bandwidth headroom
Use wired Ethernet between the mini PC and router if practical. OBS warns that unstable connectivity or a bitrate beyond the connection’s stable capacity can cause dropped frames or disconnection, and recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable.

Measure available upload capacity while other devices and services are using the network. OBS offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for video bitrate; YouTube recommends about 20% upload headroom. These are starting guidelines, not guarantees: shared network use and ISP congestion can reduce usable upload capacity. Do not set the OBS bitrate to the full result of a speed test.
Test and monitor before leaving it unattended
- Run an unlisted test broadcast.
- Check the YouTube watch page on a separate device and confirm the picture and audio are present.
- Watch OBS for dropped frames and confirm the visual and audio behave as intended.
- If you are recording locally, check that the file is growing and that it plays correctly.
- Monitor the live output regularly. A computer-based setup depends on the mini PC and network continuing to operate.
Plan for archives, DVR, and copyright checks
A 24/7 broadcast is not necessarily one complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be archived automatically, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for very long streams. If a replay is important, schedule shorter sessions, enable local recording as a backup, and verify the saved file rather than assuming the archive is complete.

Rights issues can interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party copyrighted content. If copyrighted material remains after a warning, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Obtain permission covering the specific recording, performance, and visual assets, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting where relevant.
Choose between a mini PC and a cloud stream
The mini PC approach keeps encoding and playback on your own device. A cloud service moves the continuous playback workload off that device. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams; that listing establishes it as an option, not its current terms, features, or price.

Troubleshooting common failures
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Confirm live access is enabled, select the encoder broadcast in Live Control Room, and check that OBS has the matching stream URL and key. If the channel was just enabled for livestreaming, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The stream drops frames or disconnects: Check the connection for instability, reduce the OBS bitrate if it exceeds reliable upload capacity, and try Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. Leave headroom for other network traffic and congestion.
- The stream ends or starts at the wrong time: Review YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings for the encoder session, then test the intended start and stop sequence.
- The live broadcast is interrupted by a rights warning: Check whether the recording, performance, or visual triggered a third-party claim. Confirm permission for livestream use and whether the rights holder must allowlist the channel in Content ID.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: A session longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR may be limited for long streams. Use shorter sessions and a verified local recording when an archive matters.
- The stream does not resume after a power loss or reboot: Do not assume OBS will restart and reconnect correctly without intervention. Test the full recovery path on the particular PC and broadcast before depending on it.
